Wait I literally just saw on Apple Music that Nate Smith has a song called Under My Skin lol What if they decide to do a duet version and release it around the UMS anniversary? 😄

If she doesn't drop any country by 2025–I have no hope for her.

Is an Avril country album just wishful thinking or a possible reality? Or is just dropping a country track or two perhaps a bit more realistic? Thoughts?

I think a country album is a real possibility. Avril started with country, and even on Let Go I feel a certain touch of country. Just as she was able to return to her pop-punk roots, as the media previously said, she will be able to return to country. Personally, I wouldn't mind at all, I love country rock. Moreover, we live in the era of streaming and I think this gives greater freedom from the popular patterns that existed in the 00s. You no longer have to do pop, rap or rock to be known. You can do whatever you want, I think. Maybe I'm wrong. But here are my thoughts I can even imagine Avril releasing a country album and saying in an interview that country music always was a part of her life, that she started with it. And a lot of people loved her performance of No One Needs To Know, just like I did!

I think country music will be one of those things she talks about doing but it won’t happen for some time, if ever. She might start with features like Nate Smith and Miranda Lambert, Shania, etc. before ever doing a whole album. I could see once she enters her ‘40s she might shift gears from pop rock.

This made me laugh so hard for some reason. I dunno why, it just does!
Oh yeah, and two answer your question, I WILL listen to an Avril Lavigne song, as long as it sounds more like "Jewel" or "Sheryl Crow" type country

The title of this thread is what really made laugh the first time I read it, no offense biggerwow. Even the initial thought of Avril even doing country seemed laughably to me at first. But now knowing her history, and how Shania Twain heard her demo tape and then invited her on stage at 14 to sing, and how it was likely instrumental exposing her to a larger audience, and giving her a larger platform build upon. And then seeing just how well Avril's performance was received at the ACM Awards (video below), when Avril covered Shania Twain's song to honor her at the ACM Awards show. I'm now open to Avril dipping her toe in the country genre. But I would definitely prefer to see Avril add her rock spin to any country music she put out.

I am okay with Avril doing country but 2024 is a difficult year for it cause Beyonce,Lana and Post Malone (and some rumours say Taylor) all are going country with their new music... I dont think Avril will be able to get some attention for her music. I do love Sheryl Crow type of music. It's very Let Go imo. We wouldn't call it country here but "car driving music" (Why are musicians doing country now? Is this some weird marketing stuff in the US with the upcoming election and I dont get it?)

I think the opposite. Time is now. People already received her well and she sings fantastic. I wouldn't even need a country album if she sang that way now. But you know Avril. Either it won't come out at all or she'll start when the trend is going out. I guess it seems like there's a turn to country these days because Beyonce is so big. Lana is also very popular. But Beyonce has been on this road for years. Post Malone I remember sang country a while back. And a lot of popstars have dipped their toes into country over in recent years. Pink, Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Miley, Bebe Rexha, Kelly Clarkson, Shakira, Halsey. Lil Nas is the only success though.

I think country has just got more mainstream (and a little more pop, so more appealing to a wider audience). Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, they’re both making country music that appeals to a much wider audience than the usual country crowd. And they’ve both huge not just in the US but internationally too. Way more people are listening to country now.

Yeah country has always been a hugely popular genre, I think more artists are just capitalizing on it.

Totally unrelated but it's so curious to me how much lower her voice sounds here, and more of a LG sound and a lot less nasally than what she's been doing for some years, so i'm starting to think maybe Lyme was never the problem or maybe it was at the beginning but she can definitely sound like before when she wants. Or maybe only when she sings country lol. She does sound great in this song. I just don't know if she could pull off an entire album, concept or lyrics. I think a collab would be perfect to taste the watres and see what we get and how she's performing in a new genre.
