During the performance and on the red carpet, Lavigne channeled Twain’s 1998 “That Don’t Impress Me Much” music video donning a hooded leopard outfit with a punk rock twist that included a leather mini-skirt, black combat boots and a spiked motorcycle jacket.
Lavigne’s cover got Twain and Kelsea Ballerini out of their seats singing and dancing along.
After Lavigne’s tribute, Twain graciously thanked the 37-year-old hitmaker, who she dubbed “plain ol’ kick-ass,” while accepting the high honor of the ACM Poet’s Award. She continued by praising Lavigne’s performance before telling Lavigne that she “should’ve gone into country [music], honestly. You’re doing good in your own genre.”

Lavigne shares a special connection with Twain as a fellow Canadian and longtime fan, who at age 14 won a radio station contest to share the stage with the country hitmaker.
The pair recently spent some time together during Boots And Hearts festival in Ontario, Canada, where Lavigne stopped by to watch Twain perform a set full of iconic hits.
“Look who came to @bootsandhearts!! I’m so happy I got to spend some time with avrillavigne yesterday” Twain wrote alongside a photo with Lavigne at the event. ”So fun to see the videos of the girls partying side of stage, love it! ”
“I’m here today in Nashville for the ACM Honors to present Shania Twain with the ACM Poets Awards,” Lavigne said in the clip. ”I’m channeling my inner Shania Twain right now with my leopard. Let’s go girls!”
