OK I'M READY SORRY THE WEDDING PHOTOS GOT DELIVERED SO I GOT DISTRACTED.
I think I've thumbnailed pics so you can click for bigger versions so I don't take over the whole forum lol..
Firstly excuse ME in these pics lmao - I’m dressed for a 7 hour flight home, Mexico got me too tanned for any of my makeup and my hair hasn’t seen a decent hairdryer in WEEKS
Anyway to the important part, Napanee. We’ve been on our honeymoon for the last 3 weeks and had two days in Niagara on the way home, then flying home from Toronto. Wasn’t sure how worthwhile the (4 hour…) detour to Napanee would be but obviously I was going to do it anyway because I’ve wanted to visit since I was like 11 years old and it’s the first time I’ve been in the right country to do so. Turns out it actually was worth it!
Rained and rained the whole drive there then the sun came out as we got closer to Napanee so yay!
We arrived at lunch time so first stop was La Pizzeria. Pizza was ok - nothing to write home about but a pretty standard pizza lol. We didn’t get the Avril pizza because quite frankly Avril needs better pizza topping taste. It’s obviously popular with the locals though because it was quite busy with regulars in and out whilst we were there. We were the only ones eating in though so had all the Avril stuff to myself The owners were really really nice, it’s funny as soon as they hear a non-Canadian/American accent they obviously know why you’re there lol. I asked where “Avrils chair” was and they seated us there and got out their photos of Avril in her spot. Asked where we were from and had a nice little chat about their visit to England, Avril and Napanee. It was nice that they really seem to enjoy having fans in from over the world even if it’s not hugely regular. And they do seem genuinely so fond of Avril too, it’s really lovely. Had a look at of all their memorabilia around the restaurant which was cool to see!
Then we just had a little walk around as the sun was shining. Walked down to the river and Napanee falls which was nicer than I expected. Another couple started talking to us along the walk - they were Canadian and also on their honeymoon. Turns out they got married the same day we did! On the way back we spotted a Napanee sign so stopped for pics. Stopped at an ice cream shop - think someone said on here they’d stopped at one and the owner went to school with Avril. Not sure if it was the same one as it was quite busy so didn’t really get to chat to lady working there but the ice cream was good! Had a look around the town - it’s pretty small but it’s nice:
Then it was time to carry on with our (….my ) Avril tour. We drove down Angus Drive and got a pic of the road sign. We did see the house but it felt weird to stop or take pics as someone obviously lives there. It’s a nice road though and it was fun to see where she grew up. Drove past the high school but again, pics felt weird lol.
Headed out of town a little to Home Hardware - I didn’t actually know there was anything Avril related here other than it obviously being on her tshirt back in the day. But we popped inside anyway and they actually have the signed tshirt on the wall along with a pic of her wearing it which was cool. Then we went to the hockey arena as it was literally a minute away - you can just walk in and wander around. Saw the little Avril area which is cool - lots of signed stuff and some of her worn Abbey Dawn bits:
Last up we had a bit of time to spare so headed about 30 mins out of Napanee to Abbey Dawn Road. It is literally just a road obviously lol but got a pic of the sign and thought we might as well tick it off whilst we were nearby!
All in all a fun day and glad we did it. You can do it all in a couple of hours (including eating at La Pizzeria) so worth doing if you’ve got some spare time in the area. Only thing I did notice is that in both La Pizzeria and the hockey arena the signed albums, merch etc stops around the GL era. It’d be cool if she sent back some more recent stuff to keep her home town in the loop a bit. I mean for all I know she does and it’s just not out but yeah, it’d be fun if it was kept up to date somehow! It’s cool to see though - it’s literally like two little shrines to Avril hahah. Cool to just wander around the town too, we were listening to My World in the car so it’s fun to link things up a little.
That’s all from me anyway. Hope you enjoy the pic spam and if anyone else has spent 20 years with it on their bucket list then I hope you get to go someday too!
