The other day I made a post about something I mistakenly once believed about I Don't Give and it gave me the idea to make this thread about things we once believed about Avril that we later found out were false, whether it was something you believed because it was your personal opinion, or it was something you mistakenly thought to be true but wasn't. Here are a few I can think of for myself: - So as mentioned regarding IDG, I told the story of how you could access this track when you inserted the Let Go CD into a computer. At the time, CDs were quite a new thing to me and I was unfamiliar with the concept of bonus tracks so I thought it was meant to be a preview of her next album, despite the fact there is no logical way that would be possible for her to have already begun recording a new album and put a track on her previous album that was already released - Speaking of not understanding how CDs worked, Let Go was the first real CD I ever owned. I was used to Now That's What I Call Music or other compilation albums that just had 1 song per artist on it. Let Go was the first CD I had by just one artist. I listened to Complicated on the radio and I loved it so much my dad found out Avril had a CD and bought it for me and I when I received it I was surprised there were other songs listed. I didn't realize there would be other songs, I just thought it would be Complicated. - Last one I can think of is when TBDT came out and I first saw the Girlfriend music video and saw her new look and sound, then later on when the album itself came out and I heard all the previews of the songs on iTunes, I couldn't believe how different it was. Being 14 and very "anti commercial"/"anti pop" as 14 year olds are, I was convinced someone at her label was forcing her to do this new image and sound because I otherwise couldn't believe how drastically she had changed. LOL I think by the time GL and her subsequent albums came out I was a lot older by then and not as stupid, so I don't think I have any more misconceptions or misbeliefs post-TBDT. What are yours?

I can related to the album thing and not knowing how they worked. Before I got stuff like Spotify and stuff I used to only know what I heard on the radio and I thought those were the only songs they released. Like Taylor I thought she only had Shake it off, WANEGBT, LWYMMD, IKYWT, Blank space, basically all the singles cuz I didn’t know what a single was or an album cuz I never really researched it.

This isn't Avril specifically but it is about not knowing how music worked. When I got my first album a couple of songs were already singles and I thought every song on an album would get released as a single at some point and the next album only came out when they had released everything. I learned pretty quickly that's not how it worked

Not sure if this is what you mean but I'll share anyway. The whole "not like other girls" thing. In the 00s that was pretty common and the way Avril was marketed, it really felt like she wasn't like other girls or that she was above the whole celeb thing. As an adult I don't see her that way anymore. I do think she's still more down to earth than people give her credit for, but she was doing the same things. I guess I just thought she was cooler than them.
Also, maybe she made the recording studio seem way too much fun on the documentary. I've seen a lot of BTS of my fave artists and I do think it's fun but not skipping around and getting drunk, skateboarding, pepper spraying producers lol

I've seen a lot of BTS of my fave artists and I do think it's fun but not skipping around and getting drunk, skateboarding, pepper spraying producers lol She did seem to have an EXTRA good time making it based on the doc lol, especially compared to some of the other docs I’ve seen. I’m sure if there were any parts where she butted heads with people they just edited it out, they probably weren’t trying to go that route with the documentary. It also likely helped that she didn’t have a band to battle with over creative differences/quality of performances, the producers seemed very carefree as well (letting her add the blowing into a beer bottle sound to one of the songs comes to mind 😂). All that said, I really wouldn’t be surprised if she truly did just have an unusually amazing time making that album, it is a very happy/fun album sonically.

Well, I think I had quite a few misconceptions, here are just a few that I can remember now:
when I heard UMS for the first time, I didn't like it because I thought it was hard rock 😅
thought Avril had a double (no more words about this)
I thought Avril had rhinoplasty (I thought this after I stopped believing in double)
*** I know it's stupid...

As a kid, I listened to radio almost exclusively and it was more about individual songs than about attributing them to an artist. From knowing Complicated, NH and Don't Tell Me I thought Avril was just another female pop star, perhaps a bit more emo. It wasn't until the release of TBDT, I realized that Avril was more rock than pop. Might have to do with the radio not playing rockier singles from LG and UMS. And also pop was more rock-influenced at the time.

My dumbass 13 years old unaware of any kind of english grammar rule or understanding of the language in general, heard an interview back in 2009 or 2010 and she said something along the lines "My album is almost done and ready and will come out this June...."
Not me writing in my schoold agenda "Avril Lavigne - "Almost Done and Ready" (new album this June)" 😭😭 what a great title i know xD
i saw it the other day at 3am and started laughing alone like crazy 😂 (for some context: english education in Spain is terrible to say the least, i actually learned it listening to music, reading lyrics and watching YouTube)
