While on the road for a string of festival dates, a quick run at Paris Fashion Week, and just on the heels of releasing a Greatest Hits album, Avril Lavigne has received some exciting news: She has been appointed to become a member of the Order of Canada by the Governor General of Canada! The Order of Canada is a Canadian state order and the second-highest honor for merit in the system of orders, decorations, and medals of Canada, after the Order of Merit. In a media statement, the Governor General said, ”The Order of Canada recognizes individuals who have made positive and lasting impacts on communities here in Canada, or who have brought honor to our country abroad.” Avril was appointed “to mark both her career success and her work supporting people with serious illnesses and disabilities," with the Governor General stating she “paved the way for female-driven punk-rock music and continues to do so today.” Congratulations to Avril on this enormous achievement!
