Avril Lavigne has been charting hits and bestselling albums in the U.S. for more than 20 years now. The pop-rock singer-songwriter has a catalog flush with radio smashes and generation-defining singles, and now her collection of all those beloved tunes has brought the Canadian musician back to the weekly tallies in America.
The superstar’s Greatest Hits compilation debuts on a trio of Billboard charts this week. The set performed very well, considering Lavigne didn’t add any new material to the collection, which may have pushed even more fans to flock to the recently-released project.
Lavigne’s Greatest Hits shifted just under 12,900 equivalent units in its first tracking period. According to Luminate, more than half of those were pure purchases, which shows that the singer still claims a sizable fan base in America. In its first seven days of availability, the title sold a little more than 7,600 copies.
The pop-punk chart-topper’s Greatest Hits debuts highest on the Vinyl Albums chart. Lavigne earns just her second placement on the format-focused roster, as the compilation opens at No. 8.
The same title narrowly misses out on bringing her back to the top 10 on the Top Album Sales chart. On that purchase-only roster, Lavigne debuts her newest release at No. 13.
Over on the Billboard 200, her Greatest Hits begins its time on the tally much, much lower. The set’s No. 76 launch point now marks Lavigne’s lowest starting position on the all-encompassing ranking of the most-consumed albums in the country. It’s also one of only two projects from the Grammy nominee to fail to crack the top 10.
