This is very, very sad news I knew the forum had been extremely quiet and that there was a lot of inactivity there, so I was kind of expecting this. But still, it's very sad to hear about this and the fact that social media have "replaced" forums as well as how they have become niche and "outdated" in a sense. I'm just glad that we still have this site to talk about Avril and all of her other projects, since it's obvious that a lot of other Avril forums - one by one - are dying, as some have already said. Personally, I believe that social media can never replace a forum in the sense that in a forum, you can discuss about many things in more characters than on some social media and that a forum gives you the sense of a community. But unfortunately, forums seem to have become unpopular - in comparison to social media - and somehow, kind of "outdated".

It was definitely a long time coming, unfortunately. But on the bright side, at least it survived as long as it did.
I am actually surprised at how long it stuck around. In my opinion, that forum was oddly designed and somewhat confusing. It just didn't have it all put together well like big name forum softwares do, like vBullletin, Proboards, and Xenforo. I didn't visit it much, and I don't know how it compared to the how the forum was before the website's 2010 redesign; but odd design and somewhat confusion are what made me not visit that forum much. Also, I found BA first and didn't have a need to use both forums.
It is sad for those who used the forum though. It's devastating when something you love and use comes to an end.

It's an interesting topic, though I don't think it's completely accurate to say that forums are dying and social media is replacing them. I'd say it's more of a case of the internet becoming a more centralized and simplified place. For all intents and purposes, Reddit is a forum, and while there's a few things I don't like about it, it's an undeniably big and popular site. There's a subreddit for almost every conceivable subject, and you can post in them all with the same login, which doesn't even require an email confirmation. I think a lot of people want that kind of convenience and scope in a website, whereas traditional forums like BA and Avril's official forum are more... provincial. For a lot of us, I think that's the way we like it, but the culture of sites like ours is both their appeal and their weakness.

I never used the forum on her official site, I found BA first so I didn't feel any need to use her site forum and it seemed like BA had more people and was more active anyway. And as you said, the new design was odd and I found it difficult to use. I only used her official forum when BA went down and I went over there to see if anyone from BA was there that knew anything that was going on, both with the site as well as Avril. Then shortly after I found out about this new forum so joined over here. I just didn't care for the design of her official forum, the topics were scattered all over the place in a confusing way and it wasn't very user friendly like old BA or ProBoards IMO.

It's sad in one way. But how many forums can 1 artist have. Especially when she's not #1 anymore. No, at least we are still keeping this place here.

An artist can have at least the official forum and/or the forum of the official page. I can imagine the release of the #6 album with the AL Foundation closed, and the forum of the official page closed. Bandaids is a great forum in my opinion.

I don't see how anyone can seriously compare the 'discussion' on her FB page and Instagram account to moderated and civilised discussion in forums?

TBH, the comments left in there were "too respectful" like over positive. Most of them are "ILY" something like that, nothing seem very on point and directed to her music... but this place and FB

All forums are dying, Avril related or not.. Please don't bump old threads unless you have something new to add to the discussion. The state of forums has already been talked extensively in this thread
