I understand, as I have an art teacher like this now. She doesn't ask though for a specific drawing every week. Just every single term. She never allows us to draw whatever we want to draw. She just tells us what she wants us to do next as a "piece of work" and gives us a "deadline", on which everyone must have finished it and show it on the entire class. It sucks as I not only do I have limited time to do what I have to do, but also no "creative freedom" at all. As a kid, I used to adore and look forward to art classes, but now I hate them. I dread the very moment she comes in and tell us the next thing we have to do. When I did my A-levels I piked arts as a subject as well. Historically we travelled from the first modernists (Impressionism, Expressionism) to contemporary art. So we discussed art from Van Gogh to Picasso to Kandisky to Mondrian to Pollock to Duchamp. We had to draw a picture leaning on each art trends techniques. Some of these techniques suited my style and some were really hard for me to do. But I can't deny that knowing about these different time periodes and the art that stands for it is important. How does your art teacher set the themes? Does it follow a certain structure? ___________________________________________ TheRaven : Your drawings look awesome. I have to say I am really not into mangas, but I can see you know what you're doing. Are you just drawing characters or are you into stories, too? I really like how you choose color. ____________________________________________ i'm currently working on that thing , i think it'll be finished by tomorrow if I don't get lazy, we'll see . I got that new hobby of drawing pictures of girls I see on pinterest. hands aren't done well, I'll check what I can do.. edit: it's based on that www.steampunkcouture.com/forsale/c/autumn-2010/jailers-wife-50/Not bad at all (the dress). I wouldn't relate it to steampunk though, if you didn't post the link. Did you draw the original idea on paper and finished it with illustrator? I like your style in drawing, at least what I am seeing in picture #1. The second one's got a Disney touch, I immediately thought of Rapunzel. Is it a fashion drawing or just a drawing you came up with after reading through steam punk couture?

^ Oops. turns out I never got around to finish it. Once again. that's my problem with all of this, I never finish things ! I guess it's a common problem .. So many half finished stuff lay around my computer folders..you lose interest in one drawing then want to start another one and it nver ends. Yeah, actually I don't like steampunk at all. It's not my thing. What I found interesting was the pose, and that's it.That's what I looked at while sketching this thing . I just got around pinterest like I always do for references and found that picture randomly ,then started to sketch it..There's nothing more behind it than that. I do everything on photoshop ( illustrator is too cold to use, I find. I don't know, it's too technical and you can't be free ! photoshop is perfect for messy people like me ) with my tiny wacom tablet. Sometimes I do sketch with pen then scan but I'd stay that's an exception when it happens.. other exemple : img12.deviantart.net/97fa/i/2015/327/8/c/15_11_23_by_sophieroy-d9hs9kq.jpgreference : s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/70/88/05/70880527d9e066738bfc09b45c75840f.jpgit's really the best solution I found for when you run out of creativity or ideas, ha

I used to try and do stories, but it never turned out like something I would have been pleased with just a tiny bit so I stuck to the characters. Seriously, I suck at stories, no matter wether drawn or written ^^" And for the colours 1) Thank you! 2) I love to colour my stuff, a friend at school does her stuff in black and white and that looks awesome. I'm just more into taking my time with those markers, it's more relaxing for me than the pencil drawings I do at school.

Mohican. She doesn't set the themes in a particular way, if that's what's you're asking. It doesn't follow a specific structure. For instance, these past few years I've been having art classes with her, we have gone from making drawings with different tones and shades to trying new teqniques and themes. For instance, she has told us that, as a new piece of work for the next term, she wants us to try to make something dreamy and abstract.

I have a few questions for Photoshop users. What is it like to draw with Photoshop? Is it difficult or easy to use? Why do a lot of people that like drawing, seem to like Photoshop as well, and seem to prefer it to traditional methods of drawing? Does Photoshop always cost money, or is there some good free software of it as well? Is it cheap, or too expensive to buy? And, what do you need to be good at using it, other than just be good at drawing?

I'll need a lot of practice though + hope it wont be a waste of money because of my drawing skill I'm almost sure it won't be a waste of money at all. All you need is practice and a lot of patience, since with these two things, anyone can improve their drawing skills. So, you don't need to worry about your skills when it comes to drawing. You'll get better, if you are patient and draw a lot.

And, what do you need to be good at using it, other than just be good at drawing? For me using Photoshop is easy. If there's something special I usually search for answers online. There is a free trial version of PS, but that lasts only for 30 days. You cannot buy it anymore, you pay like a monthly rent in order to use it. I only have the CS5.5 version because we got it at school, they released the CS2 a couple of years ago but I'm not sure if it is still available on the Adobe webpage. I don't really know what you need, when you're unsure just try the free trial. But blizz is right, Gimp is a free tool. But I've worked with PS for so long that it is hard to switch.

I do prefer traditional methods because I'm not good at programs like PS but I believe that once you take in hand Photoshop and have some good results with it, you can't go back to a traditional method.

It's alright I have never used it too, just a similar program and I admit that when I would create things that I liked I couldn't stop using it. Maybe because this is something new/new technology and this idea of creating something with a "program" is pleasant as it can be much more technical/challenging as your 'only pen' is a computer mouse.
