Hi, i think that we can talk about spaces games and/or space sims in a thread different to "General Gaming Thread". Also i can't find my post talking about No Man's Sky. So a thread for space games will make searching for post of space games a lot easier i think. In this thread we can post about any space game if we want, or we can post about games that happens inside aliens planets or outside planets. There is a whole range of "space games". Also a "sim" or "sandbox" that can be tuned or modded to appear like "space" also fits in this thread. I want to point out just a few i want to try when released or that i have heard a lot: This is a sim for visualizing geometry: www.geometrygames.org/CurvedSpaces/index.html.esBut is like a space sim, you have a "spaceship" and you travel through cells with an object in its center (a planet, a galaxy, the universe), the space is infinite because you always find more cells behind. Sometimes is like a view of parallel earth or parallel dimensions (like DC Comics "Crisis On Infinite Earth" saga with infinite Earth). Because i love this sim, i took a lot of screenshots of the space and uploaded that screenshot to deviantART. curved-spaces-plz.deviantart.com/ this gallery is made by me. Is incomplete but maybe in the future i continue with this. Other i want to try is Elite: Dangerous. But maybe is a bit difficult for me, i don't know. I can't control well any vehicle. And for firing, i always put "auto" on. Star Citizen is the more crowdfunded game in the history of the planet but seems to be in a permanent Alpha version or something. I like the imagination of the game. The game has fictional aliens and fictional planets and organizations. Mass Effect: Andromeda. I don't know much about this but seems promising. Starbound is like Terraria, but in space. You can choose a playable alien race and explore pixelated worlds with alien flora and alien fauna. Where no other human has reach before. No Man's Sky have a procedural system capable of creating a vast amount of trillions of planets (1.8×10e19) planets, with their own set of flora and fauna. If a player spent one second on each planet, he/she/it must spend 585.000 Millions of years visiting the different planets. Anyone likes one of these games?

Very excited for No mans sky- I think I'd need a PS4 or new PC to run it, but when I get my new PC it will be one of the first games I buy! It is what the Space stage in Spore could of been. Let's just hope the game lives up to it's hype.
*I DO like Spore despite it's flaws, however!

Mass Effect: Andromeda. I don't know much about this but seems promising. Have you played the original trilogy? If not, then go check them out. Like right now. Be warned that the gameplay in the first one famously sucked. Play it for the story.

Technically Doom is a "space game" - well half of it anyway, before you go to Hell, which is another dimension entirely. But if I mention Doom one more time you guys are probably going to throw buckets of water at me. So many games are technically space games. In fact, every game set on Earth is by definition a space game. Earth is in space, is it not?

Space sims are life The two I mainly play are Elite Dangerous and the Star Citizen Alpha. I love Elite's ship designs. Most of them are just simple shapes (reminiscent of Elite 1984) they still all look stunning. Especially the Imperial Courier, my favorite ship. I don't really like the fact that they are absolutely huge, though. The starter Sidewinder is as big as a modern fighter jet and the Anaconda frigate is nearly as large as an aircraft carrier. Even "light" fighters like the Eagle are basically flying office buildings. I haven't been playing a lot, though, as Elite is a "grindy" game. After a certain point, it's just grinding. And too much RNG, as well, with the new Engineers update. An ocean miles wide but an inch deep, some say. Star Citizen I am really hopeful for. I love the concept of it, the dogfighting, ship repair, exploration, bounty hunting, FPS combat, etc. The Alpha is fun enough, already! The developers put a lot of thought into the ship designs. I love the fact that you can walk through the interior of the ships. Example: this is the MISC Starfarer, the largest ship flyable right now. The entire interior is modeled and is able to be walked through! It's basically a flying level. In fact, its so large that owners use maps to navigate around its many rooms! And to think that there are even larger ships to be released! The Starfarer is dwarfed by the Idris-class frigates, Bengal-class carriers, Javelin-class destroyers, and the Retribution-class capital ship! It isn't just warships, as well. There are several civilian ships that can be flown. Research vessels like the MISC Endeavor can be used to conduct research in uncharted space. If Avril Lavigne was alive in the 30th century, she would probably fly between venues in the Origin 890 Jump, a space yacht. I like to call it the flying shopping mall. Maybe the music video of the 2944 re-release of Complicated will be shot inside a 890 Jump shopping mall... The Drake Interplanetary Caterpillar, a large modular freighter. It can be refitted with weapons and missiles and used for piracy, instead. Prepare to run when you see one of these. The ship I will ultimately be working towards, the Anvil Carrack. A large exploration vessel that is reasonably well armed, as well. I have really high hopes for this game.

What really interests me about space sims is the size and scale of the ships. Star Citizen: Elite Dangerous:

I think that No Man's Sky looks great!
I love the tons of research and things that have No Man's Sky. I Like the "VocAlien" technology for makings voices procedurally.

Well, turns out No Man's Sky was pretty bad. Poor optimization and whatnot. At least I can save my $60.

I've been playing Endless Sky, which is a free space trading/combat game. It's basically 2D Elite Dangerous and it's actually pretty fun, though the combat is a bit Asteroids-y. Like Elite starting out is very difficult, especially if you choose the interceptor as your starter ship. Money can get very tight, especially since you start out $400,000 in debt. However I managed to get a good amount of money by disabling ships, capturing them, and selling them for profit.
