Whatever Avril does it will never be enough. In general she has posted more on social media this year than previously. She's let us know she's working, she thanked us for our patience in the Summer, and she gave us more insight into the delays during the live stream. She's not giving details or song snippets but I don't really blame her for that. She said once during one of her MTV diaries in 2003 that she wasn't talking much about her second album because she didn't want people to say oh well she said it was going to sound like this. It appears that she still subscribes to that idea. I don't see how this year is worse than 2010 when she didn't even appear to be working at all and she would say I have an album coming in May and then May would come and no news was coming out about her album. At least we know she's been working and working hard to come up with a good album. She made a mistake last year trying to do something nice for her fans by posting a video about her having a new album out in 2017 and everyone blew up with expectations and because those expectations were not met fans feel disrespected. I honestly think it would be better for Avril to not have any social media because fans will kick her ass no matter what even if it might not be her fault and she can't say anything. How rude would it be to say oh sorry guys I want to have my new album out but this producer can't work with me right now so he's ruining it.... No one knows what is going on behind the scenes and don't care to. Because Avril is the face of her music she gets the blame no matter what happens.
As far as those jokes go....thats really all they were jokes about the fact that fans didn't think she was working because she didn't post about it on social media. I joke sarcastically like that all the time, it's not meant to be mean spirited and mostly it's aimed at yourself and not the people you're directing it to. She calls her friends bitches so that wasn't meant as anything derogatory. Not saying anything about the video could mean that she didn't want to bring attention to it and it be deleted by Youtube for using her music. There are always two sides to one coin and not saying anything doesn't necessarily mean she doesn't care. It's all about perception and the general perception by her fans right now seems to be that everything she does or doesn't do has a negative connotation to it.
I really hate social media to be honest. It has made people so needy! If an artist isn't updating constantly then the artist doesn't care because look what -insert other artist name- does! I personally like that Avril is a normal person who doesn't think about the fact that she has fans all the time and doesn't post all the time pandering to what other people want. Isn't that why people originally liked her? Because she was a normal person who did what she wanted to do? So now that there is social media that goes out the window?
I'm not kissing Avril's ass because I have patience. One of my favourite bands Flogging Molly was supposed to have an album out in 2015 and it kept getting delayed with no news on it until this year. Shit happens!
This rant is not aimed at anyone I'm just having a shitty day and I'm tired on constantly seen my favourite singer being thrown under the bus for reasons I think are trivial. Not saying anything after the Spain concert cancellation was shitty. Standing 4 feet away form people at meet and greets was shitty. Not posting enough on social media is not the worst thing that could ever happen.

She posted on Instagram saying "Merry Christmas guys - can’t wait for 2018 to show you everything I’ve been working on!! ❤️🎄" Maybe Jan is when we'll hear a single?

It's evident that she has been many slips and problems: we will never know the real causes. In my opinion, the record company has also evaluated to avoid publishing her music during this year so saturated with record returns. Who knows.

She should release her lead/leads in January, but it’s Avril. I’m not expecting anything from her anymore. She said 2017 last time and she doesn’t even give an actual explanation in her social media about what happened and she’s still keeping the release date in secret. Boring of this situation.

I barely think it will happen january. I mean I think she has a lot to do before like photoshoots, music video etc.. and i dont think avril will be heading to work from 02.01..... I am not expecting anything in january. But i am expecting her best album yet, and hopefully it will be a shocker (in a good way) for all of us

lol can’t wait for the Christmas 2018 vague post about an album Feeling like the instagram post was the prologue One thing. I am not very savvy about electronic music and I can't quite distinguish the sub-genres within it, but maybe there's a possibility it sounds like Radiohead latest albums? or Lorde's? I think both sounds could suit Avril if well managed. As much as I usually hate electronic music, I still think we could give it a try. There are great electronic songs out there by artists who weren't into dance music. Heart of glass by Blondie comes to my head right now. Edit: I also agree with paperbackwriter that her lack of communication is not that much of a great problem. Everyone here knows she isn't the kind of artist who relies heavily on social media. I admit some years ago I didn't quite like it but with time I have grown fond of that disdain, to be honest. But that's just my personal take on the matter.

I think both sounds could suit Avril if well managed. As much as I usually hate electronic music, I still think we could give it a try. There are great electronic songs out there by artists who weren't into dance music. Heart of glass by Blondie comes to my head right now. Beware, those are sub-genres of rock or indie, not pure house music or dance. The artists you mentioned come from alternative music environments and have come to experiment with electronic sounds, without abandoning their background. The Bondies are new wave, Radiohead art rock, Lorde indie pop: these are very different musical genres, which are placed in different eras and feed on different influences. If I'm not mistaken, the DJs who work with Avril collaborate with very commercial dance-pop singers and I don't think they're reproducers accustomed to experimenting and grafting electronic sounds into alternative genres. House music or dance pop are very far from experimental rock that uses electronic sounds, they come from totally different branches (Electronic dance music versus electronica). A producers who are more able to introduce electronic sounds into pop-rock songs seems to Rotem, Chad or Travis Clark. But anyway it seems very difficult for me that Avril reaches the levels of composition and experimentation of Radiohead, perhaps she could approach the more commercial Blondie songs or Lorde. But if you think about it you have already done what you say in recent years: in many songs of the last records we hear more synths and electronic sounds while remaining in the genre pop contaminated with more pop-rock or pop-punk influences. It would be a drastically different thing to switch to house music,a very particular subgenus of the EDM. If Avril had worked with different producers who do electronic music together with rock bands maybe we would have had a certainty. Obviously, as has been said, not all producers specializing in a musical genre necessarily create songs of the same kind, so we can only make hypotheses based on their experience. I'd love if Avril will do indie pop, inspired by Lorde or Lykke Li, whom she appreciated 'Follow rivers'. In any case, it's very fashionable today to resume the disco sound or atmospheres new wave of the eighties to mix it with pop-rock contemporary music, see 'She Keeps Me Up' by Nickelback or 'Hard Times' by Paramore. It is definitely a rock band way to better adapt to the needs of today's music market

Well to play devils advocate, respect goes both ways. Some of the fans haven’t exactly been respectful towards her either. She should have been more communicative with us about the status of the album, but she hasn’t been exactly disrespectful to us. Being disrespectful would have been like if she said “screw my fans” or whatever. On the other hand, some fans on social media have been very rude like that. Being disrespectful isn’t necessarily saying or doing something, it is also ignoring things. If someone ignores you , they’re being disrespectful and unpolite. Fans have been asking all year long for an update on the album and she’s been quiet about it all the time AFTER promising new music on Christmas 2016. How does she want people to be? Happy? For crying out loud, I’m so done with people kissing her arse all the time and feeling sorry for her when she’s been pretty shitty with us all year long. She and Gabe have mocked the fans in several posts by saying “I’m working bitches, I’m in the studio, LIKE working”, how do you take that? Or how do you take the fact that we created a great TBDT anniversary video for her and she wasn’t even kind enough to say THANKS? She magically appeared a couple of months ago to raise money for her campaign on that livestream, because she wasn’t getting even close to the goal. What about afterwards? She promised a second livestream, cancelled and erased all evidence of that. And let’s not begin with the “she doesn’t have time” because she’s been more on vacay this year than actually working. Let’s take the facts as they are. She’s horrible communicating with fans and that leads to coming off as disrespectful. She’s an artist, this IS part of her job. Lets open our eyes and stop justifying the unjustifiable. Daaaaaaamnnnn boy you just killed it

It's very disrespectful that she left us waiting more than 1 year for her new music even when we already had more than 2 years waiting for it
I really hope waiting worth it and the album is having more than 12 songs (15 at least)

She has a label, I don't think she's able to talk about the album, like saying ok guys: we are planning to release the 1st single on February 2 and the album on middle April. And I worked with these producers: Jr Rotem, and here is the tracklist. Obviuosly she cancelled the FB live for a reason. Maybe her label talked to her to not to talk about the album anymore. She explained why the album was not released this year and they were still working on it, She said they would start mixing on december. So next is mastering, final touches and final cut, they can't do that in a day an then release eveything before the end of the year. If you check the songs that were registered she didn't lie, they have many writers on it, which means that the songs were re-worked several times. Probably she had a Goodbye Lullaby 2.0: the lyrics are good but she isn't very poetic on the songs. With the Facebook live was obvious anything was coming out this year but some fans were still hoping for something and continue asking and calling her a liar when there's a reason why the album was not released this year. Her big mistake was to write the 2017 in her 2016 Christmas post. And we don't know how long she stays on the studio. Because she is not posting a microphone picture it doesn't mean she's in her home drinking wine. Also is a job she doesn't have to be there 24/7 she has a life and we don't even know how her health is.
I'm not kissing her ass, I am just trying to understand her.
And about the sound even if she goes country, jazz, gospel, eletronic, pop-rock, R&B, etc. She will loose and get fans. The last two eras were a mess for most of us but she got new fans, and probably lost some. That's normal. She can take the musical direction she wants even if is bad it's her art not ours if we don't like AL6 we just don't buy her art. Look Taylor, I'm sure she lost many of them after RED and won many more with 1989.

There are videos on there of people getting burned alive, shot (sad but true) and other awful things yet you think youtube will delete an avril fan video that people have worked hard on if she mentions it. And it has nothing to do with social media. Nobody originally liked her because she didn't communicate with her fans. She communicated alot more before social media. She had a fan mail address, people would always send her stuff and she would personally write back or someone from her team would, she would atleast acknowledge her fans. She would always do free mall tours, she would always write personal updates on her official website signed by her, so NO her not communicating with her fans is not why everyone originally liked her.
