Is there a standard of anniversary? I thought it is celebrated every decade. Anyways, I remember 'Girlfriend' drew my attention first and I was so obsessed to the sound and style that are high speed, densed beat, heavy kick drums from 'I Can Do Better' when I didn't even know what is genre. I even adored it more than 'Girlfriend' for a while.

Also not keen on those two (well, more than not keen in IDHTT’s case - I’d happily erase it from existence). The Best Damn Thing is my absolute fave from TBDT. Such a fun song. Love EBBY too. Runaway is great. Alone should’ve been on the album. So many good songs. |

I have to say that at first I enjoyed this album (15 years ago), but well, for my it wasn't my favorite. But somehow nowadays is one of my favorite albums from Avril and in music in general. I don't know if this happened to someone else, but it's like it grew on me very slowly, and now I enjoy every time I listen to it again. I think it's a masterpiece and it doesn’t get old at all.
And as you comment here, there are some songs that I really don't understand why they didn't make the cut. Alone is one of my favorite songs.

Idk if they make music videos anymore but I’d love if they were back for Bois Lie 😭 The Girlfriend video is to the Complicated video what Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me is to Austin Powers International Man of Mystery. Ha! I'm glad people enjoy it but Girlfriend is just terrible (song & video) and highlights Avril's mean streak (glossed over as humour) that never really gets talked about (it did show up recently though again in the video for the acoustic version of Bite Me.) But yeah, Complicated is a special kind of perfect. |

I don’t think the Girlfriend video/song is meant to be taken too seriously, or represents Avril’s true values or anything. It’s just her TBDT/MFP persona. I personally find the video to be fun and I'm able to enjoy it for what it is and what it was. And I never read too much into any meaning, because I don’t think there actually is one. Just Av playing out her alter ego. And it's most certainly not based on her own life experiences (obviously)
The exaggerated «message» of the song/video also adds to the fact that it’s in no way meant to be taken very seriously. If anything, it makes you have no sympathy for blonde haired Avril, so basically it’s saying that it’s NOT OK to steal or seduce someone’s boyfriend. ‘Cause you will look like the bad person and probably be the one who loses in the end. At least that’s how I see it
I do love all of Avril's Let Go era videos as most of her fans do. I think it will be hard for her to make a new video that can compete with them, but I hope we get to see a cool new video for the Love Sux era. I also never said it in this thread I think, but they did a great job on the remastering of Let Go!

Yeah I think despite the problematic storyline of Girlfriend and the video, it’s still a fun video and objectively one of her best as far as the production quality goes. It’s one of her most iconic for a reason, even non-fans know it. And for me it’s one of her most rewatchable. It almost feels like a mini movie, like a mid-2000s chick flick/romcom.
