Overall, I like this album. Granted I picked GL, UMS, and TBDT all up at the same time (wasn't buying a lot of albums at the time living check to check...). I listened to GL and the rest all on a car trip for the first time, so I don't have the experience of hearing it when it was released in it's entirety. I liked WTH when hearing it on the radio and also WYWH. When I finally got the album, I did enjoy it. It does have a smooth feel, with a few bumps mixed in like WTH and Alice. I didn't feel like they affected the overall feel though since they bookend the rest of the songs. I did notice there is some "sameness" to the songs, but I just took that as the "feel" of the album, kinda mellow. Yes it was different that TBDT, which I still enjoy quit a bit, but still like the Black Star leading into WTH. BS by itself isn't a great track, but I always treat it like an intro to WTH and a shoutout to the fans/"BlackStars", even have it paired with WTH on the iPod because I can't imaging them separately anymore. Personally I like Smile on this album, although it appears that some don't. My favs (in order of appearance...) WTH, WYWH, Smile, EH, NE, Darlin', Remember When and of course I still have to stop what I'm doing and belt out Alice everytime it plays.
So, yes, not my favorite album, but I can't say it's the worst either.

I love the chorus of What The Hell but the power of chorus seems making the bridge to be no power, which turns out kind of flat for the entire song

What The Hell shows the extreme of her vocal. But in a bad way. Her extreme can be so beautiful
I just notice there are wind instrument hidden in the background of Everybody Hurts. Whoa, such a great job to enhance the sad tone

I think this is a brilliant record. I don't know if it was the requirement to meet the younger's taste. The whole record still sounds a little immature, especially with the xylophone. And her voice is not deep as mature enough.
