I think this is a brilliant record. I don't know if it was the requirement to meet the younger's taste. The whole record still sounds a little immature, especially with the xylophone. And her voice is not deep as mature enough. What xylophone?

Goodbye Lullaby will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the first album and era that I actively followed from any artist. I remember researching everything I could about the album and being so hyped that I just couldn't shut up about it. As a whole, the album is one of my favorites from Avril even if the flow is very inconsistent. However, I'd even go as far to say that this inconsistency is one of the reasons why I love it so much. There are songs to rock out to like What the Hell and Smile (my personal favorite), but also so many other songs for when I'm feeling sad, lost or just ready to move on from whatever life throws at me. All of the single releases felt like such events to me, from seeing Avril perform What the Hell on New Years Eve to the b-side fiasco with the physical Wish You Were Here single release. I have so many fond memories of the album and era, which is in a large part due to the amazing community on Bandaids. With that said, it may be that I am just looking through rose-colored glasses, but I'd rate Goodbye Lullaby 5/5.

Am I the only one who think What The Hell's vocal recorded poorly? The chorus her voice sounds too thin and air

Darlin is still one of her best acoustic songs! After Tomorrow

I'm hit and miss with GL just like I am with AL.
Sometimes I love it, sometimes I skip it.

Does anyone know why RCA decided to release "What the Hell" for 48 hours for free on Avril's Facebook page back in 2011? The song was still successful in the United States, although they surely missed out on some sales and a potential top 10 peak by allowing people to download it for free for two whole days.

Probably to build hype I’m guessing but who knows. Maybe cause it was her first proper single in 4 years, they thought if they gave it away for free more people would care about it, even if they did probably lose money in the process.

During those times they did that as promo strategy. iTunes even used to give a free song a week. Plus wasn't it also when they began focusing more on digital/online sales. Maybe they were showing that you could get her music legally online too idk. But I do agree that 2 days was a lot.

my favourite Avril album! theres just something about the shallow but cute and playful lyrics that are so unique and oddly captivating, the building adventurous alt pop production. love the singles too so catchy. and the vocal delivery. hopefully we get to hear Avril version dancing crazy one day too, its my fav song of hers :x and hopefully some of the darker songs her label rejected. sad this album could've been even better if her label didn't tamper with it

Yeah, this was definitely the last era where she did lots of promo and live appearances. There was a great one on good morning America of wish you were here and vocals were so good!

Yeah, it was a good album. Maybe her best. I think I was quite critical of it at the time but on reflection there were some good pieces of work in there. Very underrated album by her. Maybe the last time I was able to switch on music TV and Avril would be featured on it.
