explain what is the production problem with 17? IMO, the song falls flat because most (if not all) of the instruments are fake and it makes the song sound flat and hollow. Especially compared to the live version she performed in the Viper Room before the record was released. But that's just my opinion. that is avril's fault for not wanting real instruments not the producer. i just listened to it and avril's voice sounds natural no autotune is clear out in front where it should be and rest is well separated.

17 is one of my absolute favourite Avril songs. The production would have been better with a more pop/rock sound imo but her vocals and the lyrics/melody are good enough that I can still enjoy listening to it.
This album has quite a few songs I enjoy (falling fast, bad girl, yasny) but it has some I really never listen to either (LMG, BS). Overall it has some good individual songs but it doesn't work all together as an album for me.

I agree about 17. To me the production sounds very flat. I prefer the live version with real drums and guitars for sure.

It always bothered me how the artwork was so dark and plain and didn't suit more than half the album. It was like it had a split personality. Just looking at the artwork you would never expect songs like SOS, Bitchin Summer or YASNY Yeah it kinda bothers me as well, that most of the album doesn't fit with the artwork at all. Her originally intentions (I presume) was to make a sophisticated, pop-rock album. An album JUST with the tripod songs. Avril worked with Chad & David solidly for like the first 5 months of 2012, then tweeted having had "Finished the album" (with Chad & David) and that "I'm away to relax before my next artistical journey begins..." (This is when Avril went to Paris). So yeah, I guess she made a cohesive, strong album - songs in the similar vein to Hush Hush, Falling Fast, Give You What You Like etc. I believe she already shot the artwork when this completed full tripod album was done. Sadly though, Epic ruined her intentions/vision for AL5. They sent Avril back to the studio in the last couple of months of 2012/beginning of 2013 (Epic definitely wanted more pop/"radio friendly" stuff) cause then Martin Johnson & Jacob Kasher were brought in I think she came to a compromise with LA Reid - let me keep half the stuff I've done with Chad & David and I'll make "pop hits" for you. Cos then we all know what came from those new sessions - HK, BS, SOS, HTNGU, RNR, etc. Those songs she made HTNGU/RNR/SOS etc, are ok pop songs, but come on, we all know Avril is so much better than that. I feel as well, at this point she lost interest in the entire project and put on a brave face whilst out promoting AL5. When people's art and vision gets interrupted/ruined, it's difficult for the artist to maintain their enthusiasm for the project. This is why I hope the next era Avril is able to stick to what she wants to do, and not let any industry insiders ruin her artistic vision.

There are only 3 songs I'm listening to frequently, even now. These are GYWYL, YASNY and Hush Hush. One beautiful pop song and two which came from her heart. I love the rhyme form (Paarreim in german, rhyming couplets (?) in english) in the bridge of Hush Hush, it is perfect for this song.
And I think the photoshoot for this album is great, but they made a poor decision for the cover ^^

She didn't produce the song, Martin Johnson did. We have no way of knowing who wanted the song to sound like that.

I'm always in a conflict with this album. I love it a lot because I saw and heard the direction Avril had with this album, but then these last minute pop songs like RNR/SOS/BS/HTNGU (all of which I love as well, hell, even HK ), stick out like a sore thumb and in the grand scale of the album, made it pretty hard to listen to. Overall, she showed a significant amount of growth and, at least in my opinion, managed to show a somewhat discernible image of who we know Avril to be, albeit skewed by "label interference." But what really grinds my gears to this day, is the sheer injustice of what was done to 17. Had it been put in better hands for production and mixing, that would have slayed as a lead single. Legit, I still have this amazing vision of what 17's music video would have been like.

She said she was working on the artwork at the time she was promoting HTNGU (which also is a really dark/gothic photoshoot) in an interview back in 2013.

We couldn't even see that she was actually wearing a dress.
