Guys, this cover is a fucking mess. So poorly photoshopped I can't believe it didn't go to revision after making it. I'm surprised how fucking lousy her team is. You can actually see the BRUSH STROKES on her leg and on her forehead. HER TOES? ? WTF???!?!?

Okay I'm soooooo excited we have news and a cover and a tracklisting!!! Finally somethings happening!! But the cover is beside the editing extremely dark. The picture is awesome I think, her being sort of reborn and naked and the guitar that represents the theme, but they could've made the black also a dark blue, like a blue theme (I thought that was kinda the thing with all the HAW photo's) This album is about overcoming Lyme and such but so so dark! AL5 had a really dark cover and now AL6 also. A pity. But this one is better then AL5, that was just scary xD But the editing (toes/forehead/legs is weird tho :\ ) And 12 tracks.. I expected more because after such a long period and her saying she has enough material for a back-to-back and such, 12 is not so much songs..... but still happy with what we get!!

I was looking at the tracklist again on Wikipedia with the co-writers listed, all are known except Goddess: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_Above_Water_(album)I think it’s very strange that she worked with guys like Rotem and Zane for months yet only 1 song each made the cut. Travis originally said 3 of their songs made the cut, but HAW is the only one on there. Most of the songs seem to be the new ones she wrote with Mitch Allen during their last months in the studio. There is hardly any consistency with the writers. I hope this won’t be all over the place again. Then there’s the 2 songs Avril wrote and produced herself. I wonder if she cut many of the original songs she wrote before she worked with Mitch. She worked on way more than just 1 track each with Travis, Zane, and Rotem. There are just random writers on every song, Ryan and that Melissa girl, Lauren Christy... and side note, no Chad songs made the cut either. I wonder if she just didn’t feel those songs anymore because she wrote them years ago and instead replaced them with newer material. But didn't she say she waited for the right producer before recording Warrior, at all... So did she wait on herself? Anyways, regardless of who wrote and produced what, maybe the songs that ended up on HAW is the best ones of the songs made. Goodess we know nothing about yet. Kinda hoping for a deluxe version with 2-3 songs. But if she did produce I Fell In Love With The Devil and Warrior herself, that will be truly exciting to hear them.

I never expected to like the album cover since I was basically never a
fan of any of her covers, but this is really a catastrophy.
Apart from the fact that it's really badly photoshoped the layout is also
quite dubious. In the black surrounding waters she sits there like a halo,
naked with her guitar placed in front, looking sad and yet sexy to the
camera. I'm sorry, but why does she have to be naked? And why is this
guitar so oddly placed? I think you can see through her body language
that she was in fact not feeling comfortable. The arragement seems way
too stiff and therefor strikes you with sexism. I. dont't. like. The whole thing fell victim to a forced perspective and is therefor so far away from being authentic. The whole cover 'art' looks just artifictial.
Why do they have to make every cover of this era look so fake? Okay, for most – I have to confess – you can blame the poor editing. But if this
is supposed to be a serious record that shows her and how she's been
fighting for her life and so on, why do they not pick covers that actually
initiates that?

You should check some nice analysis by users in this forum that are really interesting, rather than analyse if the editing is poor or not. Why do you write in verse? It’s so difficult to read a long text like that.

Honestly don’t see the issue with the cover. I really like it and 99% of people won’t even notice the editing because they’ll look at the cover without zooming in on her feet or whatever lol. It’s way more interesting than most of her other album covers.

has to do with speaking my opinion. You don't know me or what I'm doing
for a living. I don't expect thanks for my post cause I know it comes off harshly, but I needed to put out my disappointment and that's legit.

I like the cover but the nudity makes it a bit uncomfortable for me to look at.
Maybe not in a bad way, she just looks very vulnerable and broken. Like she's a rape victim hiding behind a guitar.
I don't know, if that's the point then it succeeded, but it's not a cute cover to look at whenever I will listen to the album.
It's a very striking and interesting image though. But I'll probably replace it with a promo picture if there's no alternative official cover.

I don't mind indecent covers (heck I like the Queen cover from Nicki Minaj) but the black and white and dark water and her pose makes me feel like (sexual) abuse. It doesn't give me a hopeful feeling which I think it's supposed to have? That is just my feeling though, it's a nice cover. I wonder if the music content will also be very dark.

It’s funny to me that I’ve seen lots of fans talk about their dislike of her being nude on this cover when she has done it in the past (Maxim shoots, HTNGU single). This is more tastefully done than any of those. Years ago I would have been disappointed about her posing naked, but as I’ve grown up it’s not a big deal to me, depending on how it’s done. I think Tamy gave a great analysis of the meaning of the photo and definitely think there is a symbolism to the nudity. It’s like while she was ill she felt vulnerable and the only thing that saved her was music. She said before she felt this was a “rebirth” for her so she’s naked like a newborn baby. It makes sense. And since the guitar is there, it’s not like you can see most of her body so I don’t get what the big deal is about her being naked.
That being said, I’m reminded of the day she shot the cover in her pool and getting the dress fitting and her saying she was shooting her album cover lol She must have meant single cover which ended up being HAW. Maybe some pictures inside the booklet.

I kind of get that vibe as well but that’s pribably the point. She was a bit mentally abused/gaslighted by doctors who said she was “crazy” or “depressed” or that Lyme doesn’t exist and no one was listening to her. The disease itself destroyed her physically, mentally, and emotionally. Music was her saving grace, hence the way she’s hiding behind the guitar almost like a protective shield. Remember also that she was basically forced to talk about Lyme when she wasn’t ready to do so (GMA interview where she cried). Any time even now that she’s asked about Lyme she appears uncomfortable and doesn’t like discussing it (Billboard video where she looked away). She feels vulnerable talking about it, like the darkest part of her life and something she kept secret for awhile, is being revealed to the whole world. She had the media making up rumors that she was in rehab, fans saying she was lazy, trolls saying she was probably faking it, the stupid Melissa theory saying she died when she really did almost die. She opened herself and her struggles to the whole world for them to not necessarily empathize with her, but to criticize her or troll.
