The nudity represents her vulnerability caused by her illness, how exposed and weak she felt. How it stripped everything away from her and she couldn't do the things that made her feel like herself anymore. It also represents how open, honest and vulnerable she plans to be on this album, taking about things that really happened to her, even dark, upsetting things. The guitar represents music and how that's covering her nudity (and therefore also her vulnerability) like it's protecting her because music has helped her feel like hersefl again and allowed her to start building up who she is again and remember what makes her who she is after her illness stripped that all away.
I think it's a very good cover concept.

I agree with the sentiments that it’s a good concept that conveys what she has felt over the past few years with her struggle - IMO it’s fairly straightforward in terms of what the image is telling you but as Tamy said there is clearly depth such as the water and the guitar in front of her like a shield. Editing goofs aside, I love it I know it’s not great to have a cover with those kind of things but honestly the image and it’s symbolism more than makes up for it; I am so excited for this album. Its Avril’s vision and what she wanted to make. And that to me is much more important than image editing issues.

It’s funny to me that I’ve seen lots of fans talk about their dislike of her being nude on this cover when she has done it in the past (Maxim shoots, HTNGU single). This is more tastefully done than any of those. Years ago I would have been disappointed about her posing naked, but as I’ve grown up it’s not a big deal to me, depending on how it’s done. I think Tamy gave a great analysis of the meaning of the photo and definitely think there is a symbolism to the nudity. It’s like while she was ill she felt vulnerable and the only thing that saved her was music. She said before she felt this was a “rebirth” for her so she’s naked like a newborn baby. It makes sense. And since the guitar is there, it’s not like you can see most of her body so I don’t get what the big deal is about her being naked. That being said, I’m reminded of the day she shot the cover in her pool and getting the dress fitting and her saying she was shooting her album cover lol She must have meant single cover which ended up being HAW. Maybe some pictures inside the booklet. I get your point. I personally have nothing against nudity, the opposite
is actually the case: I am all for nudity not being a tabu in our society,
if it's done 'right'. The idea behind this cover is nice and fitting and I partly can see why they arranged everything the way they did, but I just think it's not done well. At least considering the message they want to hit. Probably that's just me being a left-wing hardcore feminist, but I think
it doesn't display her vulnerablity nor symbolizes her 'rebirth' in any
kind of way. To me it's yet again another (naked) women's body being
displayed in public to gain attention/make money with. I am not saying
that this is why they did it, that would really be unlike her, but it's the
message that comes with a failed attempt.
I get how hard it is to work with a naked body being on covers, posters, any commercial section if you don't want it to look cheap or sexist, but
if it's not done well it really just ends up being that. And you have to keep in mind that people that see this cover in any store or on the internet, not knowing the story behind it and why they did it this
way, will just see a woman holding a guitar before her genital. They will
not think of it as a symbol of rebirth, but just for what it is in the obvious.
That being said, I am over this. It's not a big deal for me personally. I just think things like that should be considered in the making.

Exactly - people will look at the cover as it’s made to sell the album, yeah - but I don’t think many will be zooming in and trying to find editing issues. Even if they did I have a strong feeling the vast majority of people would not care. Doesn’t mean I think it’s acceptable for a product, but ultimately it’s just not all that important.

It funny that on GL she is on a piano but it has more guitar songs on it and now she is behind a guitar so I think there will be more piano songs and a few guitar songs. It's not as bad as the AL cover.

I am still mad for only 12 tracks, I don't care about the cover. Like someone said, what happened to the 4-6 tracks she did with Rotem, the 4 songs she wrote with Zane, the Travis songs are still in the album he wrote HAW, Warrior and probably Goddess or I fell in love with the devil. Also only 1 song with her best write Lauren Christy? It's obviously that the 20 songs won't make the cut but I do think 15 would be cool, 10 more minutes of her voice in new material.
Where is In Touch, Lucky Ones, Don't Stop and Lights Out, I think these songs have the experimental material more jazzy and electronic stuff. All these songs that made the cut are probably new ones. I guess all this delay was for this, because the original songs of the album were all scrapped. It is really sad IMO, she's probably gonna say she will use the songs for another album, but, she always said that in every album and until now we don't have any back to back / compilation album.

Exactly what I was thinking, there, Mohican, this is a symbolic cover in a rather stereotypical way, with some marketing big dog involved who knew why he's proposing it - to get them' heads turning for the naked chick, who happens to be that beloved Avril from a decade ago. Essentially, we're looking at advanced ' clickbait' art, which manages to deliver the original message in a symbolic way, but also successfully caters to the 'primitive' minds

On avril-lavigne.pl we posted an article about all the 12 songs from the album. We looked back, checked when was heard about the track for the first time, who is the producer, basically we put together everything we know about the tracks so far. Goddess is the only track we know nothing about. The article is in Polish, you can use translator for it if you are interested. But as I said, that's all what we've been posting here on Bandaids for years. avril-lavigne.pl/2018/12/head-above-water-2019-garsc-faktow/Goddess and Tell Me It's Over are basically the only two songs we didn't know about. We still have a little info on the three tracks produced by Levine, which is interesting. These might be either the tracks she did with Zane or Bonnie, because she is the only co-worker who still isn't listed under any of the titles. Warrior is the oldest track, Crush is another one. The rest is at least from 2017. Warrior, despite what Avrils been saying, is the oldest track on the album. She keeps saying HAW was the one she wrote in bed but before the released HAW, she was saying this about Warrior and she was teasing this song back in 2016. I assume, based on photos from her IG, Dumb Blonde and Head Above Water are the newest tracks on the album. Even though she did it (HAW) originally with Rotem, the sound we know from Moccio may be a way different than Rotem's ideas.

My question is.... wasn't she waiting for the right producer for Warrior??? And it ended up being her the one who produced it? All that time she was waiting for herself? It's kinda weird, though we will have more info next wednesday or when the whole album is released. I don't know if In touch (which we never knew if it was meant to be in AL6, or it was just a song given to Avril by Bebe and couldn't be rewritten so it ended up making the final cut), lucky ones and don't stop will be in a deluxed version or released as b-sides for the future singles. I'm also curious about the 2 other songs that Travis said were going to be singles along with HAW.
Btw I was just listening to the video where she is rehearsing for the Tell me it's over music video and it gave me goosebumps. Could it be another ballad as 2nd single?

Maybe she never found a suitable producer for Warrior so she did it herself.

Old same shit happened.

I'm hoping with only 12 songs we'll still get to hear some others. Japan often gets a bonus track, maybe an itunes exclusive? Or maybe she'll get AL7 out quick with songs she wrote for this album that didn't fit her overall feel for the album
