Hi all
This thread is to address the toxic behaviour we have seen on Bandaids for quite some time. I’m going to be frank, it’s driving people away and it’s ruining the atmosphere of the site.
Many have left the forum due to it as they feel anxious and worried about even sharing their opinion. Karen (In Wonderland) is leaving the staff next week because she’s simply had enough. This is someone who has dedicated so much of their time, effort, patience and passion to the site only to have it beaten down by this behaviour and blatant disrespect. I myself am on the verge of leaving.
We are volunteers. We spend our time and effort here on Bandaids because we love the community and Avril. But the site has turned into a place we are not happy with and it’s incredibly frustrating to log in everyday and really wonder how many people have read our rules - do they even care about them? Having staff openly mocked for enforcing said rules is also very frustrating to see. There just isn’t any respect.
Of course, yes. We have made mistakes in the past - what staff team hasn’t? - but the majority of us feel many members are automatically against us simply because we are staff. We don’t feel that is fair; we have always shown respect to members and have always strived to be polite even in situations where it would be very tempting not to be.
So I’m making this thread as a PSA to everyone here - stop with the behaviour, please read our rules - if you see something in a thread you feel breaks said rules then please report it. Don’t reply to it and derail the thread further.
This is NOT what Bandaids used to be and what it was about. Period. The Staff will be much stricter with rule enforcement from now on since asking/explaining politely clearly isn’t going to work - we tried it that way. Just please think about what I’ve said and consider changing how you behave here. If not, Bandaids is not the forum for you.
Thank you.
- Sam

If people are mocking you for the rules here then you have the ability to just ban them.

If people are mocking you for the rules here then you have the ability to just ban them. Just because we have the ability to do so doesn't mean that we should, banning accounts should always be a last resort. I added it to my post to highlight the fact that we are human volunteers and how demoralising it is.

I see what you mean though. I don't really spend much time on this site, today however I did for once spend the day and now I'm thinking thank god I don't spend much time on here otherwise I would go crazy. I don't blame In Wonderland for leaving.

I just posted something about it in the Random Avril Discussion because I didn't know where to put it. It's a really bad atmosphere here. I'm afraid what the atmosphere will be when HAW is released. I won't leave because it's the only Avril forum and I'm a long time member and fan of Avril. I hope the situation gets better in a few weeks.

Just a thought, but has anyone ever considered updating to a private Facebook group or something similar instead of the oldschool forums? I belong to some groups that use this format, and yes it is administered by members of the group. That is on a much smaller scale, but I can just go there whenever I log into Facebook and it saves me from having to check in on a website. I don't know if it will change anyone's mood, but I know people get kicked out of those groups quick if they cause trouble (the thread/comments show up in everyone's FB notifications). If the mood is bad, then perhaps, as you said, it needs to be more strict here.

I really haven't noticed a change to the site though it is less Avril Lavigne focused now. I'm sorry to hear the staff are having a hard time. Just keep on banning people is my advice until there's no longer a problem.
