To be fair, I think Dumb Blonde would have had the opportunity to be a moderate success if given a fair chance. It already appeared on more charts and outpeaked both Tell Me It's Over and I Fell in Love with the Devil. Despite not receiving a music video, its lyric video also has 10 million and 1 million more views respectively than the official music videos for the aforementioned songs. Avril also chose to perform I Fell in Love with the Devil instead of Dumb Blonde at, correct me if I'm wrong, the James Cordon Show when most fans were expecting a Dumb Blonde performance. Even if the song wouldn't have been a top 40 hit, I think it could have at least achieved the same commercial success as Head Above Water. The majority of critics praised the song and a Nicki feature can really help with exposure, so that mixed with having a good music video and some live performances would have really helped the song.

It really seems like they were geared up to go with DB but then Nikki dropped out (and out of music altogether pretty much) plus her reputation is pretty bad right now. I think it may have caused problems

I just want her to release something she records and thinks “I can’t wait to play these songs for my fans”. But she won’t, because she thinks we all want to hear the same songs she’s been playing for nearly 20 years. Avril could release the perfect song and she still wouldn’t be hugely successful again because she doesn’t work for it. Completely agree with the post above. I don’t necessarily mind that - she’s not 20 anymore and she’s made her millions, she doesn’t need to be working hard all the time. I just wish she’d purely make music she’s passionate about now rather than always having to include a “hit” (which is inevitably never a hit because it’s usually forced and dated and childish) I totally agree with you on this but the sound of the whole HAW albums is kinda new right? Okay it’s not that new like it’s new for the world, it’s still Avril and pop but I found it refreshing! It was a very good comeback but because lacking of streaming and promotion it didn’t got the potential it definitely could’ve gotten! Shame. |

^ HAW is new and more modern than I expected from her. The production was done very well. But to me it is still dated. I think it would have been better if she'd released it 3 years prior.

I think it may have caused problems I thought the same but if that’s the case they could have tried pushing the solo version, unless maybe they thought without Nicki there would be no point. The fact Avril herself chose to perform Devil instead and said something like “Sometimes you just to have to grab the bull by the horns” makes me think she wanted to change the single. |

That’s really odd to hear that she followed him. I think the allegations against Dr. Luke are very serious, although I also believe the notion of innocent until proven guilty. With that said, his name still has some negative connotations attached to it, so I’m curious as to why Avril decided to follow him.
