I’ve no idea who Modsun is and all I know about MGK is he’s dating Megan Fox but I definitely know who John Feldmann is and that’s very interesting. But RIP yeehaaawvril If you like the early to mid 2000s Pop-Punk sound you will probably love his new song KARMA. It's a banger! The MV was directed by MGK.

Do you think it is a collaboration? Or simply one of them is helping the other in the creation of their new album (?). If Mod sun releases an album next month, I see a bit hasty to be recording now a collaboration with Avril.

I’d say my music taste is pretty much stuck in the early to mid 2000’s, so it’ll likely be right up my street I’ll have a listen, thanks!

I don't think time is a problem. 2 weeks ago Mod Sun added another song to the album even though it was actually finished, but he said the idea for it suddenly came to his mind and he had to record it and put it on the album. There is also the possibility that they added a few new lines to a song that already existed, like Nicki Minaj did with "Dumb Blonde". I have a feeling it's going to be great and I can already imagine a MV with both of them 🤩

I really like KARMA by MOD SUN! Definitely such a banger! P. S. Just take a look on that epic "crappy ending" of the music video

I think it’s likely we could get a mixture of songs from these sessions as well as what she was working on earlier this year with the country rock songs. I think some pop/rock/punk and country rock songs could work well together on the same album. If the basic element of everything is loud guitars and drums, it could sound pretty cohesive.
I do think rock is somewhat making a comeback back in the mainstream, for example Miley has lately been very inspired by ‘80s rock and is releasing a new album next week.
As for the subjects of the songs, she could still write breakup and boy bashing songs even though she’s older and dating. I mean she was freaking married when she wrote TBDT but the songs were mostly made up stories. Taylor did that same thing with folklore where the stories were told from other people’s perspectives and fictional characters.
I don’t know if I’d personally want her to do that though as I think it’s kind of a tired theme by now with her music. I’d love to hear some songs about getting her life back, how she didn’t let Lyme defeat her, surviving this crazy year, songs about staying motivated and living life to the fullest kind of thing. I think that would be so much more relevant with the times we’re living in right now than more boy bashing songs. Plus I feel at this point she is a little old for that. Way back on GL in her mid twenties she showed she’s kind of matured beyond just blaming the guy. Any of her breakup songs these days are more like reflecting on the relationship and realizing sometimes it just ends and no one is necessarily at fault. I can’t see her honestly writing more UMS/TBDT esque songs at this point in her life, not unless they were made up stories.

I think it’s important to remember though that just because she is working with someone extensively it doesn’t mean their songs will make the album. Remember how she worked with Rotem and Zane for several months yet only 1 song each from those sessions made the album.
She worked with Bonnie McKee also for a long time and we’ve still only heard 1 song they’ve ever done.

If Mod sun releases an album next month, I see a bit hasty to be recording now a collaboration with Avril. Oh come on, don’t you forget about Dumb Blonde feat. Nicki. Two weeks before the release and two weeks too late to put in on the physical release. Time is not a problem at all. I think it’s important to remember though that just because she is working with someone extensively it doesn’t mean their songs will make the album. She worked with Bonnie McKee also for a long time and we’ve still only heard 1 song they’ve ever done. It’s hard to forget. The same was actually with Travis - only 2 tracks made it. I don’t get my hopes too high because we know it’s quite a long journey for Avril, at least it’s been this way in the past decade, from working in the studio to releasing the album. Everything can change, including the concept, not to mention the trends xD

Yes I wish for once she would release an album shortly after it's completed instead of sitting on it and then scrapping everything. BMG seems to be a pretty supportive label and I don't think they would force her back into the studio. Especially if she is working with some pretty top notch alternative producers/writers this time, obviously Machine Gun Kelly, Mod Sun, etc. are doing well enough with their own stuff and their respective labels were willing to release the material.
During the time of lockdowns is probably the most opportune time to release new music since people are bored at home and there's not much else going on. In this time, people have been turning a lot to their old childhood favorite things and Avril certainly carries a lot of nostalgia for people. A new album from her would probably gain tons of attention just for that reason alone. Especially if she does go in this pop/punk direction, it would be nostalgic for a lot of people.

I'm personally very excited for her to return to a more rock-ish driven sound, assuming she's still interested in doing that. When you think about Avril and Avril's legacy in the music industry that's what comes to mind all these years later "Avril, the rock chick", it's her brand and she knows it's her brand, which is why she enforces it even tho her music has drifted away from those roots and has gotten extremely poppy. I remember having this discussion on this forum before, but the sole reason why Avril is still picking up electric guitars to play on her shows is to enforce her brand, seeing how a lot of times she's not actually even playing for real and/or the guitar is nearly muted -- it's a very conscious and deliberate effort to sell an image that she knows is popular and one of the main reasons why she stood out in the 2000s and was able to cement herself as an icon.
So, in my head, if this is a brand you want to stick to 20 years into your career, at least be real about it -- have some authenticity behind it. Don't just have it be an empty shell.
Plus, have you guys noticed how lately she's been seen skating more consistently // showing herself with skateboards more often? That's another thing she knows is part of her legacy in the public eye and it seems her team has realized that it's time to finally capitalize off of that by releasing a skateboard line under her name (Avril was the one revealing this on her stories not long ago). A return to a more rock-ish sound would go hand in hand with that from a business perspective, and she probably knows this too.
The thing is, having more guitars and live instruments in your music doesn't have to equal immature music. There are many ways she can use a more rock driven sound in a mature way and that's what I'm hoping for if she is indeed going down that path.

I have no idea who this person is but I would love a return to a more rock sound for Avril so I'm all for it. As long as it dares to experiment a bit and isn't a full album of a cliche sound where every track sounds the same at least. The thing is, having more guitars and live instruments in your music doesn't have to equal immature music. There are many ways she can use a more rock driven sound in a mature way and that's what I'm hoping for if she is indeed going down that path. Yes please. I really hope it's a fairly mature take on rock this time. I think that would really suit her and show her growing as an artist.

Also she can write a fun, energetic, uptempo pop-rock song without it necessarily having to be "motherfucking princess 4.0". I'm all for fun songs from her, but I agree with you guys, I don't think a boy bashing "YOU SUCK, BOYS ARE SO LAME" kind of song would do it for me at this point. She's just capable of so much more. Take "High Hopes" as an example of something Avril could perfectly do and have it sound authentic and true to herself while also being fun, upbeat AND mature. The lyrical content is about believing in yourself and aiming for greatness in your life, which I believe to be a pretty nice and mature topic for a song, yet the sound is still super fun and catchy. It's also pertinent to point out that this song was MASSIVE on radio and streaming, which proves there IS still a market for this kind of sound. "Mama said don't give up, it's a little complicated" hah, this would have been such a fun little nod to "Complicated" had she actually been the writer of this song now that I think about it

^ That song is pop though, it really doesn't sound like anything that different than what's on radio now
