^ That song is pop though, it really doesn't sound like anything that different than what's on radio now I'd definitely class it as pop-rock and I wouldn't say it's the genre that big pop artists are using at all now, personally. But it IS 100% radio friendly, yes. I used that song obviously not as an example of a rock song, but as an example of an upbeat pop-rock track that is fun and somewhat in your face while still being more mature -- to highlight that Avril can and should do the same. For my personal taste the harder she goes with the guitars the better, but realistically speaking I don't see her going too far off pop-rock. |

I thought she'd go for Tell Me It's Over kind of direction A year ago on the Zach Zang show she was asked what direction she would go into on her next album, whether she’d stay on the “throwback, jazzy side” or do something else, and she said that it would be “more fun and up, heavier with live drums and electric guitars”, which would explain these latest posts and stories of hers. But with Avril you never know, as said above, she might scrap these songs and go into something completely different. I hope not though, that this time she sticks to her words. |

I don't really care what genre she goes for as long as the songs themselves are good, that's what matters. She could make rock songs that sound like total crap for all we know.

Her albums usually alternate between upbeat and more mellow so we're due an upbeat one, it's just the version of upbeat changes each time. I feel like the "rock/pop-rock" stuff she did on GL and AL was watered down by the label so it'll be interesting to see what it sounds like from her now if se does do something more that sound

John Feldman is co-writer and producer for it. Feldman has also worked with Blink-182, Good Charlotte, Panic! at the Disco and 5 Seconds of Summer and a lot of different artist that fall into the pop-punk or pop-rock genre. I'm so excited for this album and if there's a collab with Avril I'm going to freak out 🤪 |

In regards of "what the songs will sound like now that the label is not controlling her" Well...we have haw (song) which is preeeetty pop-rock actually. It does seem like a mixture between LG and UMS to be honest. If she goes in that direction i won't be mad at all.
About High Hope, yeah, According to Wikipedia the song is indeed "pop-rock" ALTHOUGHT they also say that WTH is "pop-punk" So...there you have it xD
High Hopes is pretty pop to me. Yeah, it has those trumpets or whatever it is which makes it different but the song itself kinda lacks that "rock" vibe idk. Panic at the disco yes, they are pop-rock as a band, but that particular song idk...i'm not an expert in music genres tho xD But i agree she can still make fun and upbeat songs and be mature.
But we all know her...her definition of "fun and upbeat" is what scares me. Of course rock doesn't mean immature lyrics. I was talking about Avril specifically. I guess, Losing Grip, Unwanted, even MHE, NH or HAW are ""mature"" pop-rock songs in her discography. So i would be happy with songs like that honestly.

She and Mod Sun filmed themselves getting COVID tests. I wonder if they are planning on filming a music video together maybe and are getting tested beforehand. With recording, they can easily wear masks and distance, there’s not a reason for them to be near each other, but filming a video would require getting tested beforehand.

Avril's mid-tempos tend to be pretty solid. I was specifically talking about her up-tempos. Usually when you think of Avril's up-tempo pop-rock songs you think bratty and childish. High Hopes was just an example I could think of off the top of my head of a very successful pop-rock track that was energetic, fun and super radio friendly, but still mature. It's also a song that doesn't even talk about love and romantic relationships, which is something I'd personally like seeing Avril do more of. I appreciated the effort in diversifying the lyrical content in HAW and I hope she continues to do that with future albums even more. |

Oooh, if that's the case then I think it's safe to assume the song was already written and Avril just added vocals to it. I thought they were going to be writing together. I guess if he's planning on releasing an album next month he probably wants to move things along as quickly as possible tho. And Avril would be great exposure for him, so a MV would make sense. That being said, there are many ways in which they could tape a MV without actually being in proximity with each other, so who knows. Maybe they're getting tested just to be more comfortable around each other if they're going to be in sessions together for a while? Either way, I'm at least excited to hear new music s**n. I hope it's a banger. |
