I also wonder about the lyrics while having a bit more heavy music. If they are not that mature a lot of kids will like it but she has to keep her long time fans. That’s better than kids IMO.
I’m down for it tho, for anything, even if she does country or blues or jazz or metal (lol, not gonna happen) I’m down for anything but please be not repetitive... no albums part 2.
Oh And sorry but High Hopes gets on my nerves, dislike that song big time xD.

She has done some pure pop in the past, and probably never a true rock sound. She has been always somewhere in the middle (pop-rock, duh xD) but...she has always get a lot of hate from real "rock fans" but regardless of that, basically all of her fanbase is predominantly pop-rock listeners or at least they can "handle" that genre. She's not pop enough to be considered a diva like Ariana or Lady Gaga, and she's not rock enough to be respected in the rock music industry (at least from a fan persective poin of view, maybe professionals or other singers do respect her, like Taylor Momsen, which is WAY rockier than Avril and she kinda was inspired by Avril which is pretty cool if you ask me).
So, to sum up, i think going pop-rock again is her safest option. At the end of the day she is know for her skater girl image and being a rebel teenage and a pop-rock queen. Maybe it's time for her to recall that crown and stop trying to fit in, in that pop box. Since GL she has been pretty pop (except some tracks like HAW.... oh wait, only that one xD)
I'm curious and excited and considering it's Avril: always worried. xD

I enjoyed MGK's newest album. Its a nice change of pace from the modern pop which I'm getting tired of atm. About time pop rock makes a comeback. Lately I'm have been listening to mostly pop punk/pop rock

I've been saying that pop-rock music is making a comeback since the beginning of this year so yeah i know. I don't think is MGK who brought it back tho. The trend was already there, many songs started to add more electric guitars, real instruments and a rockier vibe so i thought a comeback was happening sooner or later.
Really wish she won't screw it if she goes in this direction. She's really good at making pop-rock so there is hope.

Yeah I wouldn't give all the credit to MGK. I'm pretty sure he did payola for his songs. His music video often came up on as a youtube ad.
About songs with good lyrical subjects Halsey comes to my mind. For example, Nightmare and 3am. It's so easy NOT to sound like a rebellious teenager. Don't know why it's so hard for Avril sometimes. Like I have always been a fan of the band All Time Low, some people have called them immature, but I feel like they've grown with me over the years.

I hope that’s real hair and not those fake ass braids she thinks look cool but are as obvious as her wigs...
I’m excited for this! However, I’m gonna bet it’s for his album and not hers. She’s the known act in this case, so there wouldn’t be any point in her releasing this as a single, but it would kind of be a big deal for him and his album. Hopefully this collab is a preview of what we can expect for AL7.

Yeah my only two concerns about it being TBDT 2 are the immature and bratty lyrics and the dancers lmao. I hope neither ever return. She made a clear evolution in her songwriting in HAW to downgrade them to TBDT standards. She’s also in her mid thirties, not 22 like she was back then. I wouldn’t mind some free-spirit fun lyrics as long as they can relate to an adult and someone who is navigating through more intense things in their lives than “give me an A, always give me what I want”. She’s proved to make good lyrics like Runaway, Freak Out and Who Knows for her more upbeat stuff.
