TBDT with more age-appropriate lyrics would sound amazing. MGK's album hit #1 on BB being pop-punk, and it is definitely making a comeback as more and more artists are venturing into it. Even Halsey has stated she's eventually going to do a punk-pop album. I think it would be a perfect time for her to drop something like that with mature themes. And modernized would be good, as long as she hires real musicians to record drums and guitars and make it sound real, not those fake RNR, WTH, HTNGU "drums".
As much as I am an UMS fan and it still remains my favorite album of hers, at this point in my life I don't really see her nor would like her to return with that sound. If she throws a darker rock song then great, I'll for sure love it, but whenever I think of her now I just want to see her go down that more fun and agressive side she showed on TBDT. It's the style that suits her best. She doesn't have a voice suited for rock anyways, she doesn't have Miley's raspiness, or Pink's, or Kelly's, or even Lady Gaga, who all sound like they were born for rock.

Disney style pop-rock is just watered down pop-rock. Everything sounds lighter and less heavy in the instrumentals. Just listen to Sk8er Boi or Gf and then RnR or WTH. The instruments sound so light, they don't have that heaviness or loudness that rock (even pop-rock) should have. I think because that stuff stopped getting played on radio that Avril and so many others thought they were doing something "rocky" because something like RnR is heavier than what's on radio but n the grand scheme of things it's not heavy at all.
If she does TBDT 2.0 or just anything upbeat it needs real instruments. I was actually surprised by Bad Girl because the instrumental is much more rock and heavy but they couldn't do the same kind of sound for RnR?? I just want proper instruments and to not hold back.

Feldman posted a new video of them in the studio. They went back after a short Thanksgiving break.

GF doesn't sounds heavy ??! Girlfriend isn't a heavy song, but it's obviously more "heavy" than the likes of Dumb Blonde. It's a pop-rock song that has prominent, loud guitars throughout, striking the right balance between pop and rock without sounding like a watered down song. Just listen to the instrumental and compare it to Avril's more recent upbeat songs:

An Avril Lavigne and Joan Jett duet on AL7? Who is your dream classic female rocker duet with Av?

An Avril Lavigne and Joan Jett duet on AL7? Who is your dream classic female rocker duet with Av? It would be pretty cool to hear Avril's voice with one of the classical goth style singers like Amy Lee or the frontwoman from Within Temptation. You know the ones who can really sing almost opera style. An epic dark ballad like IFILWTD/All I Need/Lithium would be so cool. Hayley Williams, Taylor Momsen, Orianthi, even Lzzy Hale would be cool too. But really I think Avril's voice is too soft for most of these. Especially Joan Jett. Even Stevie Nicks I don't think would sound good paired with her voice.

If Avril were to sing with any female rock singer, I think Alanis Morissette would make the most sense since she was largely inspired by her and their voices sound similar. But I agree with biggerwow, I don’t think Avrils voice is suited for rock music nor do I think she would sound good with female rockers who have that raspy kind of voice. And I don’t think a collab is necessary for this album.

I wouldn’t mind a song with Pat Benatar either. Back during the Goodbye Lullaby era, Avril and Pat sang Love Is a Battlefield together and it was pretty nice from what I recall. There’s no collabs that I’m absolutely dying for, but I’m not opposed to any collabs that Avril wants to do with a rock icon either.

I don't think a rock collab would do good since her voice isn't as 'rock' anymore as it was during UMS. It's way more higher now. I'm not a big fan of collabs but if there should be a collab the better is with a pop artist such as Swift.

You can fake the raspiness tho. And she can lower her larynx to sound deeper. She did in LG out of bad vocal technique but you can do it safely. She definitely can fake it lol, i've seen so many artists do it. But i don't see the point of doing it tho, people will notice xD
But considering it would be a collab, i think it could sound more balanced, especially with a voice like Taylor's. Maybe not an ubeat rock song but a rock ballad (?).
To be honest, i don't see her fitting with the big artists idk why, she just seems from another world and doing her thing so for me i guess i would just want her to collaborate with Evan again lol xD

My dream collaboration was with Manson and it came reality. I would like another with oliver sykes (bring me the horizon), amy lee, yungblud, taylor momsen, harry styles and MGK. P!nk and Paramore too. I don't know, many.

MGK seems the most likely right now since they worked together already.

I wonder who the female feature on Rock n Roll was suppose to be? It's interesting to think about as I'm sure Avril wanted a singer who dabbles in rock a bit and I do recall it being heavily speculated that the feature was P!nk. Maybe Avril will make that collaboration, whoever it was, happen one day.
