Seems it is only OK for Avril to be making music if it is something you are comfortable with.
I'm just happy to see her happy and healthy and doing something she loves. I don't care if the final product is pop, punk or EDM, I just want her to make the music she wants to and I'll judge when the music arrives. Maybe these song will end up being on the forgetable side, or maybe they turn out to be excellent. I love some of the material she has put out in the last two albums, even considering then more of my taste nowadays that most of the music she put on the early years.
On a side note, if she has a collaboration with Skrillex, I'll love it to be in the vein of the song he made with Hikaru Utada for a video game. Really like this song, would be nice if Avril does something similar. I really liked Wings Clipped so, I guess I could love a potential colaboration.

Seems it is only OK for Avril to be making music if it is something you are comfortable with. I'm just worried it won't be HER. You know how she is with her own music. She seems so excited in the studio but when it comes to promoting and even performing she loses all her spirit. She looks bored. Loses interest quick and doesn't even care to talk about the process of making the music. I'm all for her trying new things but if it's another flash in the pan music moment for her...I just want songs that will add to her legacy and evolution. A revival of her pop rock / pop punk days can be it.

If it's for Modsun's album we'll find out soon because he's already releasing stuff from it. Hopefully he'll do an interview about it or something and reveal a little more

Maybe they’ll release it around Christmas as a gift to fans, or around New Year’s. There’s only a few weeks left of December so we don’t have long to wait!
I’m concerned about Avril going electronic (let’s be real, Hello Kitty was not great even by EDM standards). I don’t mind if it’s incorporated tastefully in the songs, but I just don’t think otherwise EDM suits her style and it might sound dated by this point. But I’ll reserve judgment until I hear it.

Hello Kitty did its job as the substitute for acid trips. It was created for that purpose and fulfilled it 100%. media2.giphy.com/media/5ngTOKy65BOA7pAMYd/source.gifOn the other hand it was produced and written by a rock musicians. She did Wings Clipped with Grey and that one sounded much more professional and she sounded great on it. Mod Sun's album was supposed to be released in December, I guess it will be postponed a little bit now due to the collab with Avril. Not only is she constantly postponing and delaying her music, she's doing it now with other artists' records too.

another nice song with marshmello(?)
I think this dj adapts quite a bit to the style of the people he collaborates with so I'm partly calm

I dislike Hello Kitty, I never listen to it, but that doesn't mean that she can't explore EDM sounds and meaningful music. And HK transpires AVRIL in everything, that song is literally Girlfriend meets basic EDM instrumentals.
I don't love the summer vibe songs with the exception of Souvenir, but I loved her exploration of more alternative/indie sounds (GYWYL, Hello heartache), the blues-ish sound of TMIO, Crush and LMI, the industrial rock she did with Bad Girl... so I'm all for her to explore more genres.
If she is to come back to the pop-rock/punk-pop roots, I'll probably like it, but I hope she goes into themes like sex, lonileness, bitterness and impotence like she has done in AL and HAW and not a full album of "Boys are bad, I hate u".
Sidenote: I don't understand why people think the poppier songs are things Avril didn't wanted to do, with the exception of GL. I get why people think she is not passionate about her music because she doesn't go miles into explaining each song and skip half of the albums in the live shows (something I see bands do outside the mainstream pop niche, but whatever.) The songs she usually put in social media for her stories etc are usually songs like SOS, BS, Bigger WoW and even Smile and HK. I think she likes those songs enough, she just prefer to do a hits setlist (mix of clever marketing and some laziness). Unlike other artist that hate playing the old songs, Avril surely likes to play MHE for the thousand time. If she is enjoying now doing punkier songs in the studio with Modsun, and then skip them in the live, that wouldnt mean she is not passionate about them.

Avril will play mostly old songs out of comfort these days. Playing new songs means she has to learn them first, and she's admitted herself this era that she's not too keen on learning new material ... hopefully that mindset changes if she does indeed get more excited about the new music. I feel like a more upbeat album should get her more pumped to play new songs live, but who knows. Also, I'm more than happy for her to explore different genres. I'm also perfectly fine for her to incorporate elements of other genres into the pop-punk songs she's been making if it helps modernizing them and making them feel more current. I just hope the body of work she ends up producing has some sort of structure and vision that makes sense as a whole, and also that it's something she can passionately get behind once it's out. That being said, people are obviously allowed their preferences and their own takes on Avril's career, so I think it's perfectly natural for people to express reluctance with certain genres if they feel like it's not something Avril would shine in. For me personally, anything that sounds remotely similar to Hello Kitty should be avoided at all costs -- that song was career poison for her on all levels, it's the one song that keeps being brought up by casuals to defend the idea that Avril's new music completely sucks and it did nothing but turn her already declining public image into a joke.

I would really love for Avril to do an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music when the record comes out. Miley did one not too long ago for her Plastic Hearts album and Taylor will be doing one this week for her new albums. Zane always does such incredible, in-depth interviews. They are usually pretty lengthy, like around an hour, think Miley's was 1 hour and 20 minutes. He always asks such great questions, not the stupid stuff people have asked a thousand times and that's super obvious, but like real, thoughtful questions about the music. You can tell he's actually listened to it and done his research and asks actual questions about the process of making it and stuff like that. It's time Avril did more challenging interviews like this where she has to actually discuss her process and the meaning behind the songs and not just be like "Um... like Bigger Wow is about like... um... wanting a bigger wOw and like... um... like living the fucking rock and roll lifestyle bitch... like hell ya"

I remember her Howard Stern interview in 2013, which is probably one of the best interviews she has been in. He was genuinely interested in knowing things about her past and her way of creating music that no other interviewer had asked before. He really pushed her to go beyond with her answers and I learnt a lot of her past in that interview. It would be awesome if she did it with Zane now, but she’d have to stop being so basic with her pre-rehearsed speeches and allow herself get carried away by the moment and just be as deep and genuine as possible and describe what each song means.
This could also be beneficial for her so that people take her more seriously as a musician. I know I would. As much as I love her, her constant attempt at avoiding questions and not trying to scratch beneath the surface makes her look like a mediocre artist who doesn’t really know much about anything and moves no further than within her conventional safe bubble.
I don’t know if she’ll change at this point, but I really hope she does, because she’s very talented, but for some reason is too afraid or uncomfortable to open up about her music writing/producing process.

So most of us agree that if she's going back to pop-rock it should be something modernized, right? So i just wanted to share with you some songs of what she could do. J-rock is pretty much modernized pop-rock. Japanses people are great at doing pop-rock, don't know why but they always amaze me. Here are some examples:
If you like the songs i recomend you to search for the lyrics, these guys know how to write lyrics. Taylor could never, lol I would love Avril to do something similar to these songs. I think the girls really sound like her. Definitely something i see her doing. Especially the girl named Milet, that song really sound like Avril
