I think DB was meant to be that: a GF 2.0 in terms of promotion and epic momentum, but they cancelled everything last minute. I do think at some point they hoped to release DB as the 3rd single and make a music video and put her in the map again. Everyone was saying how it sounded like a song from a 2000's movie, the GP really liked it. The lyrics were not childish and pretty clever for Avril's standards so i think it was a great opportunity but...something happened and we'll priobably never know what.
I hope this time she will go somewhere in between UMS and TBDT, something not too childish but not too dark either. And she needs a great music video in the first place like GF which is still one of her bests to date.
Let's hope that now that she's working with Feldman and basically professional rockers (like her DUH) they will put more effort in everything she does when the song comes out (talking about her material, not the modsun collab).

Machine Gun Kelly as a rapper is about as authentic as Will Smith is as a rapper. Didn’t he feature on a Little Mix song and then do another one with Camilla Cabello? 😂😂😂 MGK is indeed a rapper. Until 2020 he was a rapper and boy and now he's doing skate...ok sorry xD but yeah, just bc he released tracks with Little mix or Camila Cabello doesn't discredit him as rapper. Lil wayne made a collab with Shakira, Eminem with several collabs with Rihanna and Pink. It's pretty common in the music industry, especially some time ago when people had to have a catchy pop chorus to be able to digest rap. For instance i didn't like rap back in the day but i loved "Love the way you lie". Now i do like rap but it's not for everyone that's why they tend to make collabs with pop artits form time to time to still get hit, even Eminem lol. I know there is some kinda of "oH bUT bEinG a rApPer iS a wAy oF LiVinG, nOt a mUsiC gEnrE" clture or something, don't really understand but i've seen so many people saying X or Y isn't a rapper bc they didn't grew up rapping in the streets or smth. But anyays, i'm not here to defend him, i only like 2 songs from his rap phase LOL. and they were more pop-rock oriented so... but he released like 5 rap albums before 2020.

Off topic but rappers have collaborated with pop stars since forever. Where's the problem exactly?

I know things were different then as Avril was still in her peak during The Best Damn Thing era, but I'd love to see her go all out like she did with "Girlfriend". Outside of all of the promotion for the album, Avril released two music videos for the song, we got remixes (Dr. Luke, Junkie XL, Submarines), and she even recorded the chorus in seven different languages. Regardless if you like the song or not, Avril clearly put in a lot of effort there. I'm not saying she needs to repeat exactly that, but it would be cool to see more done as opposed to singles like "Dumb Blonde" that didn't even get a music video. Edit: Just wanted to add though that I think Avril is moving in the right direction, as she is interacting with fans more and releasing music so quickly after the last album. This was just an observation about the single treatments we got for last era. I agree. Girlfriend was like lightening in a bottle, so they capitalized on its success as much as possible and that’s partially the reason it is her biggest hit to date. Nowadays you have to be really smart and strategic with releases in order to really get anywhere since streaming has taken over. Sorry to all the Taylor haters on here, but I’m going to mention her anyway as a good example of this. She wanted willow to go #1 but knew she’d have tough competition with the Christmas releases and knew that the song alone wouldn’t be enough. She created 3 different remixes, along with “Yule log” videos for each, a clever way to get people to keep streaming the song while also tying it into the Christmas season. She also put out a version of the music video that included the storyboards, another clever way to get people to keep watching the video but it offered something new. And lastly she put out 3 different digital EPs that included one of the remixes and either the instrumental track, the songwriting demo, or a live performance. Again - a clever way to get people to purchase the song but the key is that it offers something new and it isn’t just asking people to keep buying/streaming the same exact song and video over and over because people will get bored of that quickly. And as a result, willow indeed went #1. I feel Avril or her team needs to start thinking outside the box like that this era. You can’t rely on your small group of fans to keep buying and streaming the same song over and over, you have to get creative and come out with new stuff like remixes or behind the scenes videos, and offer people something they haven’t already heard or seen to keep people interested.

It's weird but strategic and kinda what she actually needs. I also find it funny bc we're joking all the time with a single being remixed more than three times and featured by other artists like warrior, warrior ft travis we the kings, warrior remix, warrior remix ft lil mama.MP3

This new era needs to be very well planned. It kills me to think that HAW only peaked at #64 on the US. And the worst is that it could've been top 30 or even top 20 with a little more strategy. Song was released on a wednesday, music video 1 week later in a thursday, radios 3 weeks later, spotify promo just 1 month after all that....like it was such a mess And the song was so well received They need to do everything at once with her next lead single or it won't even chart

A complete mess It made me miss self-titled era a little bit tbh

They really need an official single plan this era too. HAW was a total mess with the singles and Avril changing her mind at the last minute. Pick a few songs for singles and stick to them, release them in a timely manner and actually promote them properly, is that so hard?

We can't really compare john feldmann who has like a 30+ y/o career with martin johnson who's credits as a producer back then was a hannah montana soundtrack. And mitch allan who did dumb blonde it's very disney driven when it comes to production as well. Not to mention the song it's like that on purpose? Just travis barker being envolved with his kick ass drums it's a statement that we won't get summer songs this time around. She's working with REALLY good people. Even modsun that it's not that well known seems to be very talented and hands on with instrumentation. I guess underproduced tracks won't be a problem this time around Mitch Allen is really a disney hit maked, when i was looking through his hits on wikipedia, he made a lot Demi, 1D, Little Mix songs oriented to teens and kids, i personally like this Hanna Montana and naive childish sound, but i think it is not for Avril anymore, we are done of hearing this material from her whole career, and i more interested in grown lyrics and sounds. like it was on other HAW songs. AL is a total flop but anyway Avril is not Avril without her Hello Kitty and RNR vibes) And i just want her auditory to drow up. Or just if she do songs like Dumb Blonde, they should be more iconic and hit sounded, well promoted etc. And both RNR, DB, Bigger WOW are not like that, unfortunatelly.

I hope that maybe they will release FLames in 2 versions, since we know about Marshmello. First single is just Av and ModSun, and second - is a remix by Marshmallow which can be played on the radio and they can make a mv for it. I think they understand that no matter pop punk is back, they need to make it more radio oriented so the best way - is to do a remix version and make it more commercial, and first original version will be just for us, fans) What do u think about it?

I think we need to stop expecting her to achieve a Top 10 hit on BB as far as singles go. Her last success was 10 years ago and there's no way she'll go as high in the charts again. There's just not as much interest in the Avril Lavigne brand anymore unless it's for nostalgia purposes "Awww I uSED to love Avril sooo much when I was like 10". No one in the music industry acknowledges her existence these days, at least not with her later albums.
However, if her team gives it good promo and the song is more a throwback to her pop-punk days we might get a Top 20 hit and gain some fans and occasional listeners back. The pop formula didn't work on the AL era, neither on the GL era, and DB was a cute song that could've gone slightly viral if a video had happened like HK did in 2014, but that's it. They need to stop beating that dead horse and go for something different. I'm still surprised HAW wasn't more succesful given how personal and mature the song was, not to mention it was a far cry from its pop lead single predecesors.
