I liked the performance! Okay she looked mostly at her guitar but still I liked it to watch! A pleasant surprise Feldmann was on the guitar too and he has a lot of energy! Very nice performance!

I thought the performance last on Kimmel was really good. I thought she sounded great, I like the fact she sounded a bit more aggressive than in the studio version of the song. Glad they didn’t do an acoustic version.
I want a pair of Avril’s pants!!!

I think most people on here are just tired of flames. But take that down a notch and realise this is brilliant. How long ago do you have to go to see Avril singing this aggressive and playing guitar and the whole let go vibe? Nostalgia card? It's working for me. I loved it. Sure she was just trying not to overshadow Modsun you can see the camera took more time with him and that's fair because its his song.
PS: personally I'm not actually tired of flames because I didn't listened to it in loop this time... I think this helped. I like the song a lot.

so my thought is: when I would be watching this as a non-avril fan or let's say just as a casual viewer.. I would maybe be like "oh Avril still does music" or at least "new music".... but then would I have the need or interest to check it out after this performance? I think not. sure, it is not "her" song, she is "just" a feature, but also since Mod and Feldy are so jumpy and all the distraction going on (skaters) I felt like she went a bit under the radar.

I quite like the whole set up with the skaters etc, looks cool! Mod sounded good and just looked so buzzing and grateful to be there lol. Avril sounded good and nice to see her on guitar. My only issue is her weird accent/pronunciation when she’s singing live again. Though I think we’re stuck with that now unfortunately. It was good though.

In her defense I would like to say that "for YOUUUUUUUU" is a pretty long vowel and it's a "U" it's rather uncomfortable to sing and sustain, it's just not practical and pronouncing it correctly would sound even weirder.
Even in the studio version she doesn't sing it like "You", she sings "you-uh....." in the performance she slightly changed it to "You-eeew" LOL ahahaha but yeah, it's not a big deal for me, she doesn't sound as AL5 era, she definitely imporved her accent or got rid of that weird one she used to have. Can't remember if she had it during HAW (i think no..?)

Ok so first the positive: That's more effort than I was expecting from everyone involved so I'm pleasantly surprised. Avril sounds decent! Feldmann really going for it was fun. And it was cool that there's a lot going on around them even though it was "live" (pre-recorded on a set but seemingly in one take, given that's honestly not hard to do ok with a less than 3 minute clip but still). BUT: Avril was definitely the least exciting out of all of them. She tried to bring some energy that, besides her decent singing, didn't really come over. I saw her trying to look it but she didn't feel it to me if that makes sense. Especially with those surrounding her being so high on it. Like others already said she was so occupied with the guitar (which you could barely even hear) I think it hurt her performance. She really does come over somewhat as a side-act or a backing band member which is weird given her status.
And is it just me or was this filled with stuff/promo to try and mix their images? I get why but it felt excessive to me. What does this song have to do with skaters? Nothing. Yet here they are. Why? Because Avril is there. So it connects their images and pushes her narrative of "going back to her roots". And everyone except Mod Sun seems to be wearing branded clothing of some kind. Feldmann and the drummer are trying to make sure people notice the Big Noise logo on the drum kit, etc.
ps that "dreams come true" at the end, come on.. And then that made it come to a weird close. We know he's doing great but to say that so bluntly with no context (besides what we know) feels a bit tone-deaf after the year+ we've all just had. It comes off a bit braggy and forced to me.
Finally I noticed the "Mod SON" on the thumbnail too, that's a bit of a blunder. Though everywhere else it seems correct. Overall it was ok. I now desperately hope this was the thing to close off Flames. It's had a good run. This was fine. Let go.

Hahahah that's kind of hilarious. His big TV debut and they couldn't even spell his name right lmao. Poor guy. And is it just me or was this filled with stuff/promo to try and mix their images? I get why but it felt excessive to me. What does this song have to do with skaters? Nothing. Yet here they are. Why? Because Avril is there. The skating fits both their images tho, I don't think it was tailored to Avril specifically and her "going back to my roots" album. If anything, it fits Mod Sun way more since he can actually skate unlike Avril ~le shade~ lmao. Also let's not forget his first single off his record, Karma, had a music video where he was predominantly seen drumming and skating -- that's kinda his thing. I'd say the stage was made to fit the imagery of pop-punk in general though, not one specific person -- it's one of the elements that was heavily featured when pop-punk was popular in the late 90's and early 00's and obviously they're now trying to bring the whole shebang back, so it did make sense to me. As for my thoughts on the performance -- way better than I anticipated! I agree with you guys when you say Avril was perhaps too focused on the guitar, but I don't think it made her seem less present in this specific performance -- it felt like she was trying to commit which is more than she usually does. In fact, I'd go as far as saying I'm kinda glad she brought the guitar for this performance because I'm much less confident in her ability to appear committed without it -- I just have a feeling she'd be standing there looking awkward and not knowing what to do to match Mod's passion. 😅 The stage was cool and I like the fact that they tried to bring a more elaborate production for a TV performance. I do think the skaters were distracting and I could have done without them, but I get what they were trying to do and I appreciate the effort. Overall a pretty solid performance imo.

Honsetly now that I think about it, maybe her playing the guitar was the best idea they had in ages. She looks extremely awkard performing upbeat songs (well...anything in general lol) so if the guitar wasn't there, she would be just standing still.... maybe doing some steps and raising her arm like a war sign or something and that's it.... oh God...is this every performance she's ever made? Yes, it is.
So... with the guitar at least she's doing something... (??) and the GP would be like: oh well, she wasn't doing much but she was playing the guitar, so that's understandable..."
She stopped being a good perfermer mid UMS i think with very few exceptions here and there, but overall she looks like an amateur singer in a high school talents contest.... 😂😂

Honestly, I won’t even blame her this time for being too focused on the guitar, at least she tried not to screw up and seemed genuinely committed to make a good performance as more of the “guitarist”. How long has it been since we saw her playing her guitar at a random performance on TV? I think last time was in 2011, so I’ll give her that. If she’d put much more “energy” into it she would’ve started doing whatever on the guitar and I bet people would be laughing at her/ pointing out how silly she looked. She reminds me of her LG/UMS days here, where she wanted to play the songs on her guitar and focused well on it, so kudos to her. Could she have improved since it’s been 20 years and not look like a bit amateurish like a girl in a school rock band? Sure, but we know she already peaked in UMS(as a performer) and it is what it is. We’re not ever getting much more from her IMO

Um.... I LOVED IT?? She looks great (bit late with that whole baggy-Billie-look but it suits her so well!), I prefer her being focused on the guitar rather than standing there awkwardly. Her voice sounded great, I liked the slightly aggressive tone she did. Feldman on guitar was sweet, Mod sun was great. I liked the skaters and the setting.
I'm ready for Avril to ditch her solo-career and become part of a band!
