The performance wasnβt bad but Iβm not exactly wowed by it either. The skater thing was just plain stupid and unnecessary and distracting. Yeah skaters are part of both of their images, but it felt like trying too hard to seem βpunkβ and βhardcoreβ and looked like something cringey teenagers would put in a YouTube video lol Thatβs the only part I really disliked.
Otherwise I think this was alright, for being clearly pre-recorded on a set. Avrilβs outfit was kind of a cool throwback to her early years (Let Go stars on her pants), though I didnβt like the chunky shoes either. She sounded good and it was nice to see her play guitar.
I think they had her play guitar because thereβs otherwise not much for her to do except stand there and look awkward since she only gets a few lines in the whole song. At least playing guitar gives her something to do. I feel like the performance accomplished what it needed to and Flames can officially die. Itβs been falling down the chart and heβs gearing up to release his next single. Itβs run its course and this was a nice send off but letβs move on please.

Forgot to mention YT comments on the video from the JK channel are all pretty positive and donβt seem to be just from fans either.

I almost forgot about that Jimmy Kimmel performance...
Honestly, I almost only have positive things to say about it (yay! ). Avril and Mod both sounded great. I also loved their outfits and the stage setting (even though it was almost a bit too much with those skaters; if I'd been there live, I might've ended up a bit overstimulated and scared they'd crash into anyone, lol). I'm also positively surprised to see that it was apparently live and that they seemed to be there in person, right? And they played the album version! I'd fully expected them to go with the (kinda boring) acoustic version, and half of me had also expected them to pre-record it. I'm very happy to see I was mistaken.
The only thing that bothered me a bit was Avril's guitar playing. It seemed kinda fake, and her guitar was barely audible. However, you could definitely hear it in the outro, so now I'm not so sure anymore. I guess she was playing for real, but the volume was just very quiet? There were also a few moments where Avril seemed to be struggling to show her passion, but I feel that's a bit nitpicking of me, considering the vast majority of the performance was pretty top-notch.

It's a good performance The skaters were a bit much but the actual song part was good. I feel like Avril just looks low energy next to Mod because he's so high energy. I feel like if she had given this performance back in her heyday people word have loved it.
I like that she's playing guitar more too. It suits the style she's going for and it's been a while since we really saw her play. People were complaining she didn't learn new stuff for the HAW tour

No they werenβt there live. The performance was taped in advance from Feldmanβs studio, some are saying it was taped as far back as May 8th actually.

It was pre-recorded. They were watching the performance airing on TV at her place with Mod's crew. I don't mind it being pre-recorded, personally, as long as it's live and doesn't sound overly edited in post. Plus, they wouldn't have been able to achieve the visuals they wanted to present on this performance (people skating everywhere) in a more limited studio space. As far as Avril's guitar playing goes, I think it was a mixture of playing it for real and pretending to play it -- with the latter being one of my personal pet peeves with her, I just think it's such a lame thing to do, but oh well. For instance, around the 0:50 mark Avril is filmed at an angle that very blatantly shows her strumming the air instead of hitting the chords of the guitar. Furthermore, she absolutely sucks at pretending to play instruments (much like she sucks at lip synching, I guess lol), so when she fakes it it often looks painfully obvious. I'd rather see her only playing during the parts she knows and feels comfortable with if she wasn't going to put in the effort to learn and rehearse the whole song. That would have also given her an opening to interact more with Mod during the performance now that I think about it. But overall I'm still happy she brought the guitar for the performance and I hope she does it with her own music too -- she looks more comfortable on stage when she has something to play and with a bit of luck she even decides to learn the full songs first and start displaying more passion for performing like she did during UMS (not overly confident about it lmao, but we shall see π). Other than that, I definitely share the sentiment of hoping Flames' cycle can come to a closure with this performance. It's a nice way to wrap things up and it's about time they move onto other things.

If she doesn't plan to release her lead single anytime soon, then I can't see this as the ending of Flames LOL. If her single comes out in July or August, then it's pretty safe to say Flames is not over.

^ Well, unless the performance has any significant impact on radio and streams, I don't see why they wouldn't move on considering it's been falling significantly recently and has been out for 5 months already. I believe in general terms the interest is just no longer there for the song. I'm however not ruling out the possibility of them releasing a remix or something like that to try to milk it as much as possibleπ but with Mod releasing Amnesia soon I can only hope they start shifting their attention to something else.
We'll always have the memes in the fandom, so Flames' legacy will forever live on and that's the biggest achievement, really lmao.

She sounds AMAZING. Wow.
This might be her best vocal era ever....and the confidence to play guitar while singing well? Amazing.
I feel like she stopped playing guitar to focus on her vocals. She can sing, but had a reputation of being a terrible live vocalist through the first 2 eras.
Then she really focused on singing βwellβ and took it extremely serious in the Goodbye Lullaby era onward.
This is so great to see.

It's a nice way to wrap things up and it's about time they move onto other things. Like some others aleady said, I find the skateboarders a bit of a silly addition, tbh. It's just a tired reference to ' OMG that sk8er boi girl!', and it kind of unnecessarily takes away some of the attention from Avril and Mod. Otherwise I find the performance really nice and enjoyable, I really like their vocal and visual performance, and Mod as always delivers a remarkably energetic pulse to it. Despite Avril faking her guitar play, I still find it refreshing that the 'girl' on stage plays the guitar, and the 'boy' clings onto the mic, it makes an interesting dynamic, as it almost makes Avril look like some kind of bad-ass 'hard-boiled' rocker. I also find Mod's attire really cool, especially his pants and boots, I'd totally have those.

well, at least they tried. I'm kinda meh about the performance. I watched it bc of Avril and I was focus on her and her guitar playing. Her vocals were a bit more agressive and IMO it was cool to hear a different version. I know I keep saying this but can we let "flames" die once and for all?
