Ok Olivia I hear you what do you guys think of the new "it" girl? Her debut album is out today and I did not expect to hear another pop rock song from her or even the first one

It's a pretty diverse album from what I listened. Love her voice. This girl can really sing. Love that she tried experimenting her voice in different genres.
She first caught my attention when I first listened to good 4 u. Its nice to have a energetic pop punk/rock that feels nostalgic but also modern at the same time. I'm gonna give the album another listen. Atm good 4 u and deja vu are my favs. Kinda sick of drivers license bcos it's overplayed in the radio from where I live lol

I haven't listened to the full album only listened to the previews and these three songs above. It seems like an interesting album from what I heard though. Definitely not something that I expected.

The chorus from good 4 u actually sounds similar to the chorus from Misery Business by Paramore. The more I listen to it, the more Paramore vibes I'm getting.
Here's a mashup of both of the songs. It's a bop

I listened to the whole album and I just think it's ok. There's some decent material but the strongest stuff is probably the singles. Unfortunately I just think the whole album kind of sounds like too much of the same thing, there's too many ballads or sad/slow songs. I get it's a breakup album, but I think it could have benefited from having some more upbeat songs.
The main thing that annoyed me more than anything else is that nearly every song is about her stupid ex-boyfriend. I mean... how many songs do you need to write about the same person/situation? It just felt kind of repetitive. And true, Taylor Swift does that on many of her albums, but I think Taylor would either write about multiple relationships on the same album, or made the songs different enough and also explored other topics to help balance the album out. Olivia's album could have had better variety with other topics besides this stupid breakup where the guy moved on with another girl. It was like every. song. was about the same. thing. We. Get. It. So it is a very immature, typical teenage breakup album in that sense.
That being said, she is a good singer and can write really solid lyrics considering she is only 17/18. I do think she is kind of like Taylor in that way. I think she said in an interview that by no means does she really think this album is going to be her best work, and I certainly think that's the case. This is ok for a debut album from a teen pop artist, but it's definitely not a great piece of work and can use more variety in the future. I liked a few songs enough to add them to my library but otherwise this isn't an album I'll come back to.

This is a very trendy album. I agree it's not that special but it seems to have good lyrics and it has a chill vibe. But damn is she obsessed with her ex and his new girl. I liked Brutal because it's pop rock but it's more towards a teenage audience. Hot take, I think a lot of teens might think the world of Olivia right now but there's several other girls doing the same thing right now. However, Olivia seemed to learn from Taylor and include a good PR story to her debut. This album was like a mix of Taylor's breakup songs and Billie's trendy ballads.

Yeah Olivia even does the same breathy whisper-singing Billie does too. That got old after a while.

After a couple more listens, I like the album but yeah I agree that she needs to move on from her ex but maybe she wants to keep the breakup theme for the album. I think only "hope ur ok" talks about a different guy. Apparently, she is a big fan of Taylor Swift so yeah it's obvious where the inspiration came from.
Overall, I'm interested to see what she brings in the future. I'm hoping to hear more pop rock from her lol. Interestingly, brutal was the last track written for album but she put it as the opening track. You got yourself a new fan, Olivia.

I think “hope ur ok” is about a couple gay kids she knew growing up. So yeah one of the few songs on the album not about the breakup, I think there was one other but can’t remember which one. Edit: I think it’s jealousy, jealousy, about feeling insecure when you look at other people’s social media.

Speaking of “hope ur ok” it’s actually kind of interesting to note that she ended an album called SOUR with that song. Because it talks about bad situations people went through, but hoping they’re doing better now. It would have felt like too much of a downer to end the album on an angry, depressing note so this one feels more hopeful. I think Brutal was deliberately chosen to introduce the bitter tone of the album while hope ur ok closes it to leave the listener with a feeling of hope.

brutal is about having a frustrating teenage life. Probably the emo phase that most teenagers go through haha

It's a bop That might be my favorite song mashup I’ve ever heard. It really does work well. Takes Good 4 U which I already really like, makes it just a bit better, and gives Misery Business some fresh life lol. Usually don’t care for song mashups, but now I’m ready for Hayley and Olivia to get in the studio together and make an official duet version . Overall, other then Good 4 U her style of music isn’t really my thing so wouldn’t say I’m a fan, but she’s definitely talented and has a lot of potential.

Recommendation. Weapon by Against The Current also sounds like Misery Business.
Also if you like this album maybe you'd like Hayley William's Flowers for Vases it's basically an adult version of this. It has the same trendy slow ballads with good lyrics and even some pop rock tunes although yeah not as in your face as Brutal and Good 4 u, just a little more subdued. A lot of fans hated Hayley's album tho so who knows, I think it's similar tho.
