So, I think we all agree that there is no other artist similar to Avril, even tho there are a lot of people that took inspiration from her sound and visuals. Some times i listen to a song and think immediately "this could be an Avril song" There are exemples in all eras and i'm going to leave here 3 of them and I hope you can contribute if you ever felt that same feeling. Also i hope this thread can take our minds away from this AL7 fiasco. First i'm going to leave here a perfect example of how Hillary Duff tryed to take advantage of Avrils success and make a song similar to the likes of Losing Grip: (not a particular fan of this one to be honest) And now a recent song, since a lot of artists are reviving the early 00s sound, this one I really think could be a Let Go B-side (speacially the chorus) that we never heard before: The last is this one: It honestly screams Avril Lavigne to me (could also be a never heared before B-side). The video is like a mix of complicated and Mobile and actually the way she sings also reminds me of Avril in 2002-2005. What are yours?  Share some music before we get new music! |

Cool thread! I love this idea. I think I dimly remember that Hillary Duff song! It does indeed scream Avril, and the video is so reminiscent of "Losing Grip", especially the beginning and the outfit Hillary is wearing. But the chorus falls kinda flat imo. The second song doesn't give me too many Avril vibes, except maybe some of the aesthetics. The video is really weird, though. And the third video - hell yeah, it's so 100% inspired by "Mobile" and "Complicated". Some shots even look like they've been taken straight out of the "Mobile" music video. And I also agree that the song totally sounds like an LG leftover. |

Great idea!
For years I couldn't find any music to put in playlists with Avril. I still find her so unique. In recent years, I've gotten out of that mindset tho and started to find a few similar tracks. I have a few modern examples but I'm on mobile and don't have the time. But for sure Ashlee Simpson was basically trying to be Avril at least with her singles especially Boyfriend. Which is a bop btw.

A few people in the comments said that this wasn't Avril, but I personally was sure it was her. I even remember thinking to myself "One day, when this song gets officially released, we'll see that I'm right and those comments are wrong." Several years later, I realized that I was wrong. It's just a pitched version of the original by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I'm laughing listening to this pitched version now. It's so clearly not Avril, lmao.  |

I was listening to this song yesterday and I thought of this thread. This song was in the 2003 movie Freaky Friday with Lindsay Lohan and her character was sort of a “rock chick” who played in a band. This song is very of its time, that Disney pop/rock thing that was kind of like what Avril was doing. Even the lyrics are filled with that same teen angst “I hate the world” thing.

I have been waiting for her to release an album with songs like this forever. I loved her in victorious and always felt Elizabeth and Ariana more talented than the leads and would make it big. Ariana is amazing too, but I don't like her genre much, I'm so hopeful Elizabeth would release a pop-rock album!! I think the first 3 albums of Paramore have that Avril vibe too. I think a lot of what I listened to as as a teen was similar to how Avril sounded. The Veronicas - When it all Falls Apart Renfue - What you wanted, they weren't really famous... He is We sounds like Avril Acoustic!! I love love love their songs: Fireflight! katy I used to listen to Lindsay Lohan's Over a lot as well. Ashely Simpson's Shadow also sounded like Avril to me.. I think even Demi's initial album (I think it was la la land or something) sounded like Avril to me. These artists may not be just like Avril, but do sound like her! |
