Her voice sounds great but I hate the instrumental. It loses all the energy and impact of the original. That's got to just be a demo right? And they would put in proper drums etc after?
I think it's interesting she recorded a cover. I would like to see more studio covers from her, see how get voice sounds on different styles

She sounds great! Very natural and not too overproduced like the LS album vocals. Wish more of her songs would get produced like this with just her natural voice.
I do wonder what practical purpose this cover was for though? It seems like a lot of effort to put in just to do for fun and never release. Maybe they planned to release it officially when she kept talking about doing a cover of it but they were never able to find the right time to put it out. Maybe it was meant to go with the documentary?

I checked and you are right, it leaked. There’s so much material out there, I heard songs with Lil Wayne, two with Gayle and more. Some are very good, I hope they won’t leak. This cover is very beautiful With Lil Wayne too, that's interesting to know! I hope she will find a way to release the best of those materials! |

The instrumental reminds me of pop cover version that Michelle Branch did for Big Yellow Taxi, it has that poppy vibe imo, which sounds nice and feel good for me. I wonder when she covered this. I also think she wanted to have fun with the songs she loved and covered them to test the production and genre that she was feeling then. She did a studio cover of I Want what I Want before as well. I would love to hear songs like Seeing the Signs, Boy At The Rock Show, and Rap Star in full (officially) one day too. |

Sounds very LG b-roll in general, super early 2000s. It's cute, just sounds a bit too old school. I think she just recorded it for fun, since she always says it's her favorite song. Same thing she did with I Want What I Want.

Hmm, I don't really hear her natural voice all that much tbh. It doesn't sound as heavily pitch-corrected as most of LS, but it's still too much pitch-correction for my taste. Idk, maybe my ears are especially sensitive to pitch-correction these days? (Lately, I've been mainly listening to music from the 80s and early/mid 90s, and I've also been watching a lot of fan recorded live performances of MCR, all of which uses no pitch-correction...)
Tbh, I've never been a big fan of "Bitch". Avril's version is fine, but nothing to write home about imo.
Do we know when she recorded it? Sounds like HAW era to me... I'm not sure and I can't find out right now, but weren't "Break It So Good" and "Lucky Ones" originally released by Lauren Christy? And then there's "Lights Out", originally by Carah Faye. It seems Avril recorded several cover songs during HAW era. Maybe she needed some inspiration, or wanted to strengthen her voice after being sick for so long?

From 1.40 onwards is really good with all the adlibs etc! The beginning the words sound a little too over pronounced but it’s still a great cover. I’d love to have this on Spotify! |
