Probably this is also why she sang live different versions, there were so many she might have forgotten the “official” one.
She sang it for the first time at Honda Stage, and the bridge is explicit and says “You gotta stand up, you gotta fight!”
(1st)
The song also came out identically, in studio version, but as "clean" (the lyrics are the same of Honda Stage version"
(2nd, but studio version)
Then there is the official solo version, but with different bridge “You gotta stand up you gotta fight for it”
Then there’s the Nicki Minaj version (3rd one)
And now all these many DB demos.
By the way, I'm expecting for HAW (song) demos to surface anytime soon.

Interesting to hear how many options they had. I kind of like the first one, but only if they had added some other lyrics besides “na na na.” I agree with Katy that I think what they ended up with, between her solo version as well as the Nicki rap, were the best of the bunch. I suspect the na na na version was just a guide to see how the melody fits before they decided on the lyrics. She did the same thing in the making of TBDT with ICDB where she just na na nas the melody |

I haven't listened to the demos yet (easy to go down an hours-long rabbit whole and I have things to do lol) but I've always much preferred Avril's version of the bridge from the physical CD, probably because I'm not a fan of rap and so I don't care for Nicki being on the song (nothing against her though). Plus for most of Nicki's verse, I just don't see how what she's saying relates to the message of Dumb Blonde. I think Avril's physical album version fits well with the theme of the song. Overall, especially if they wanted Nicki to be a feature, I do wish it had been either a stand-alone single like Fly, or a bonus song, because while it fits thematically, as we've talked about before, sonically it just stands out like a sore thumb; I would replace it with Bright since 1) it's a masterpiece and it's an absolute TRAVESTY it was not on the album and 2) it has the same theme of fighting for yourself, albeit in a bit of a different context. Then DB, HAW ft. Travis King, Break it So Good, In Touch or I Want What I Want could be on the deluxe version.

I feel like while DB does stick out like a sore thumb on the album, I think it was done intentionally to represent a tonal shift from the darker songs in the beginning of the album to the second half where the songs are lighter and more about being in love. I feel like Avril herself might have even said she wanted to include it because she always likes having an upbeat song on her albums when there's loads of ballads. They might have thought at the time it would be the most radio friendly song to put out as a single and that was clearly the plan until she changed it in favor of Devil. A lot of fans have always pointed out how Nicki's verse doesn't make a lot of sense when her fans are known as "Barbies" or "Barbz" or something and meanwhile Avril says "I ain't no stupid Barbie doll"  |

I agree that when she really wants to she has incredible bridges tho Yeah... take ABO for example, she goes a little harder and the lyrics are all new, another example to contrast is "Losing Grip", the brige is the same lyrics as the chorus just softer. It works on some songs and not much on others. It just depends on the song |

Yeah... I feel like DB didn't make much sense on HAW if that makes sense. Songs like "Bright" and "Lights Out" fit better on it.
