She never said it outright but it’s assumed, considering how many songs they wrote together and only 1 made the cut, well obviously the rest were cut. If I remember correctly, Birdie only made the album because her friends encouraged her to put it on because they loved the song. Otherwise I strongly doubt any of their songs would have made the cut. It’s logical to assume their breakup was the reason, though it’s possible his songs just didn’t fit musically. Well, "Bright", "Lights Out" and "Lucky One's" are the only cut songs co-written by J.Roten. Avril isn't registered as a co-writer of "Bright" just as in "I want what I want" which is a cover, originally recorded and written by Lauren Christy in 1997. In my opinion, Black Stars bought this assumption to make the entire narrative of the album more interesting and to justify the lack of cohesion on the album's tracklist.I think Head Above Water is very much cohesive. The last few songs are definitely not as strong, but i'd say it's the only album of hers that has anything close to a structured narrative. |

I also don't understand why some people are worried that now she will have yes-people that don't push her farther songwriting wise... Have you listened to Love Sux? Literally the worst written album of her career. And I dare even say that AL and HAW have some of her best lyrics since Let Go.

I also don't understand why some people are worried that now she will have yes-people that don't push her farther songwriting wise... Have you listened to Love Sux? Literally the worst written album of her career. And I dare even say that AL and HAW have some of her best lyrics since Let Go. The way I look at love Sux. It’s fun. It’s bratty, it’s upbeat. It’s not suppose to be intellectual it’s fun. It’s lyrics you can scream and sing along to. |

(even though some of my favourite songs are included in my least favourite Avril albums. I really love them all..but that's by ranking!)

Nice. I love all her albums honestly there snt one i hate. Theres sone i dont like but overall like all her albums as a whole. For me, i have to like most of the songs on the album to say i like this album, and i do on all her albums |

When she was promoting HAW she said that she wanted to push herself and be more poetic/artistic in her songwriting and I think that for the most part it comes through. I think that's less about her having yes-people around her and more about Avril herself. Omg, we have basically the same order, only I'd swap GL with AL, and both AL and HAW tend to change as least favorite from time to time. If I was 17, I'd probably love Love Sux (knowing me back then) but now it's just too much to me. As I get older, I notice that the middle pop-rock and kinda songs stick and have stuck with me the most. In the past few months (especially after the Tyga fiasco), I've completely turned away from Avril. In any case, my priorities changed so too that my second baby was born  But if Anesthesia and Close will be the direction of AL8, then hands down for the upcoming album. Unfortunately, in terms of her personality she lost me with her attitude in the last years. I will try to focus only on her music only. So welcome back here |
