Since we know Avril is currently at work on her 8th studio album and plans to release it soon, I think it's ok to make a speculation thread. We'll change the title of the thread once we know the album name. Details that are currently known: - Avril has been working in the studio with John Feldmann and Travis Barker again, as well as new collaborators like Yungblud, Tommee Profitt, Andrew Goldstein, and Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low - She has said she plans to release it in 2023 along with the tour - She played a very brief clip in one of her Instagram stories which suggested a fast, uptempo pop punk track again, but otherwise the sound is not known. She only went on record saying it’s like a mixture of Love Sux and her previous work. - The subject matter of the songs is also not currently known - Yungblud has praised their work together and believes it's "Grammy worthy" - On Jan 14th, Avril posted stories from the studio with Travis Barker and pop star Gayle- On Jan 21st, Avril phoned in to Most Requested Live and confirmed it will be a mix of old and new sounds, she also teased a special collaboration but didn't name who - On February 16th, she did an interview with Merf Radio for PopCrush Nights, where she spoke about working on her next album, stating that she has been working in the studio between touring and that she plans to release the album this year. She stated, “Honestly, I feel like my album is done. I’m still writing, but I’m pretty much there. I feel like I’m in the zone and just following my heart.”- On April 3rd, Avril was in the studio with John Feldmann and Canadian songwriter Simon Wilcox - On April 25th, a new interview was published for the Netherlands magazine Numero. When asked about new music, she said, “I can’t stop writing songs, I am so inspired. After this tour, I am going to take some time to look at everything I have done so far and figure out the best way to release it into the world.”- On May 8th, a supposed cut from AL8 leaked called "Close"- On May 12th, another supposed cut from AL8 leaked called "Anesthesia" Audio clips: /video/1 /video/1 Most Requested Live interview: This post will be continuously updated as we get more info.

I hope Avril would come up with new song concepts and pull better lyrics. If she'll continue the pop punk vibe in AL8, I think political songs would be perfect for it. Yeah, it's time for her to do now for a change. She did a political song in Under My Skin with lyrics, "On my TV there's a serial killer who's taken too many lives/He shot somebody every day/And now he's still getting away" but it never made the cut. I really hope Avril would do political songs. I think it's timely and relevant now.

Political songs is the furthest thing from what I want from Avril. Aside from the fact she can barely even write a break up song without mentioning vomit so her writing is DEFINITELY not up to scratch to tackle anything too serious, but I just do not care about her (or anyone else’s!) political views. People banging on about politics and right wing and left wing blah blah blah is everywhere these days and I’m forever thankful Avril has generally stayed away from it. I’m here for her tackling a few different subjects aside from love and breakups but politics is not it.

Touching on politics is the real playing with fire. The reaction is always extrem and to a point of black and white. I'm glad she has been staying away as longevous as her career.
I hope that she would be more inventive on lyrics and choices of synth and organic instruments instead of such heavy resemblance of What The Hell and HTNGU throughout majority of Love Sux

I don’t see Avril ever writing political songs and I’m in the camp that would prefer she doesn’t. I don’t think she’s frankly educated enough to comment on it and she’s not even American anyway. I don’t think she has that much interest or investment in American politics. Writing about the serial killer was probably the exception and is really more of a commentary on an event rather than politics itself.
I feel like there’s so many other worthwhile topics she could write about, like maybe her thoughts on getting married again even though she might be afraid of it not working out considering she’s been divorced twice. Maybe her thoughts on reflecting over the last 20 years and how far she’s come, or how she feels about the next phase of her life. I know breakup songs are like her bread and butter but I honestly hope we don’t really see those on AL8. More songs like IAM that are more about missing someone or something would be as close to a breakup song as I’d want her to get.

I hope she goes in a darker tone for this album. She's alluding to that in those emo filters used everytime she's in the studio. I guess we will get tons of midtempos this time around. And of course, I do hope she finally get to release an album the year she plans to. 2023 here we go ✍️

I guess it depends how people define "politics". For some people that's stuff like the so-called right-wing/left-wing/middle topic, for others (like me) "politics" is basically everything from women's rights and gender-equality to racism to how we structure our society etc. So whenever Avril is talking about female empowerment that would be "politics" for me. But I agree with others: Her writing skills are not good enough and I think she might not be educated enough. I appreciate her "women can do anything, nothing can stop us"-attitude but I'm not interested in half-cooked lyrics about the inequalities in our society.
I am fine with lyrics about love and relationships, but I need BETTER lyrics. She recycles the same words again and again. Like I dont want to hear anymore name/same, life/right, cry/lie rhymes anymore... she needs to expand her vocabulary. And I wish she wouldnt be so generic. She is so focused on making her lyrics relatable to everyone that there is rarely a personal nuance or story in it. I want more lyrics that we can speculate about, like who did she call out in Deja Vu? Who did she talk about in Birdie? Stuff like that. Not like I'm A Mess which has the most basic lyrics and is just boring to me.
I also hope she will continue to explore new sounds that fit withher signature sound. Hello Kitty is a total flop, but Cannonball (or even PityParty) have just the right amount of new influences (here: electronic sound).

I would like to have but not sure if Avril will be able. But I think she made it from track 1 to 5 for Love Sux. Yeah, Dubstep and Pop Punk is surprisingly blend. Maybe she should go for it.

It’s worth noting that she typically seems to do the opposite of whatever the previous album was, so like HAW was a darker, more mature and serious album, while Love Sux is uptempo and lighthearted. Meaning AL8 may possibly be more ballad-driven again? She did say it’s a mixture of Love Sux and her previous work (I should probably add that to the OP).

Maybe she'll end up doing something more like her original plan for GL before it got derailed by the label and her divorce. Originally she said it was going to be about life in general and broader feelings instead of just relationship stuff. That's where songs like Black Star and Everybody Hurts originated. It would be interesting if she dealt with that kind of subject matter. She already touched on it with something like Avalanche

She always give me the impression that the new album is coming before the europe tour. In every single interview. Am I tripping here? I know it's Avril and that is too fast, but I can't help thinking "what if"...

Though I’d be shocked - it’d break her go-to cycle of announcing an album 6 months in advance. I’d absolutely love her to stop announcing everything so early and give us a surprise drop, but I won’t hold my breath lol

I just hope if she truly thinks the album will come around the time of tour that it actually happens. Presumably there won’t be any label issues this time around.
