Love Sux is the most critically acclaimed album in her career, and debuted #9 on Billboard 200 and #2 on Alternative. So it's surprising, to say the least, it didn't at least get nominated in the Alternative/Rock categories. Perhaps if the lyrics had been a bit more polished and clever she would've gotten a better chance. I also think the name of the album didn't help either lol. I personally think it's great, but I just can't see it as a contender for a Grammy nomination. Yeah but if UMS and Girlfriend/TBDT got jack fucking shit after how popular they were in 07, then it’s unlikely imho

Speaking of campaign, i'd like Avril take notes of Taylor Swift's. Apparently she announced a new album, a release date, and it's title. In the middle of her acceptance speech. No "soon", no "middle of nowhere" and so on.. There's a reason that Taylor is very popular these days, and this is a part of it. THIS, is what a great campaign is, imo. Sadly, i don't think Avril is going to be campaign-ing really hard anymore. I honestly think that she just doesn't bother. And it saddens me. I would love her to do something like that. Win an award and then go oh btw new album out next month with no expectation. It you shouldn’t be sad over it cuz honestly besides Taylor no other singer has ever done that

So happy for Paramore. They're always evolving their sound and offering something new. I could even mention the concerts.. Hayley's stage presence is out of this world and so is the entire band. I've attented to their concerts 3x and I can't say which one was the best.

HAW is a great song but it’s not SOTY worthy. At best she could have gotten Best Contemporary Christian Song or something but it’s possible she wasn’t able to submit it in that category since she isn’t officially a CCM artist. It wouldn’t have been fair to the actual CCM artists in that category. I don’t think the Grammys hate Avril, after all she performed at the museum in HAW era and she’s always invited to the pre-party, and as noted before she presented not too long ago. But I honestly think her last several albums just haven’t been there, quality wise. I know a lot of crap gets nominated but at least in those instances they are still popular songs. Avril’s last few albums were neither Grammy level quality or smash successes. There’s more to getting nominated or winning than just the music, that is only one small piece of the puzzle. You need to campaign and schmooze the voters and I just don’t see Avril playing that game. Maybe she’ll be lucky enough to get a lifetime achievement award someday. Look at how long it took Miley to finally get a Grammy. I think if Avril really wants one she has to start upping the level of quality of her music and campaign harder. There’s just no other way around it. I do think she deserves one at this point though. Maybe if she was able to pull out another IWY level song. Yeah, the Grammys are a popularity contest nowadays. I say this as a Taylor fan, her last album was mid at best for her standards. I was really disappointed with it, but it was obvious it ws going to win regardless. I'm happy for Miley, though. Her "Meet Miley Cyrus" album was the first record I bought on my own and I just have a huge affection towards her. She's also proven time and time again how much of a power-house charismatic performer she is.

It is the most critically acclaimed album of her career because the critics have gotten much softer and there was a wave of nostalgia for Avril like never before. I doubt it would've gotten that metacritic score had she released it in the early/mid 2000's.

Most of the critics nowadays are the ones who grew up listening to her, way different from the ones who reviewed her albums back in 2002-2007.

IWY should’ve been her Grammy winner. If that song couldn’t win a Grammy she’s never winning one

Or if IWIM and HAW was nominated wouldve been amazing. Also just found this out but both Shania was also snubbed in 96 for best new aritst by Hootie & the Blowfish which i only know cu o f the one episode of Friends lmao.

I wouldn't say the Grammys academy hates Avril these days. Maybe they did in the past, especially after 2004 when she didn't attend the ceremony despite being nominated for three categories (if I'm not wrong). Honestly, I think her relationship with the academy nowadays is at least decent. However, it's also necessary to invest in campaign efforts to be nominated, and I'm not sure she's actually doing it properly. By the way, we cannot forget that she recently performed at the Grammy's Museum, was interviewed by the Grammy site, and presented an award category. She's trying... maybe it's not enough. Paramore had a massive campaign (even using not pretty nice means, like saying they are disbanding - which implicitly says 'this is your last chance to award us'...; they also released a remix album full of critically acclaimed artists during the voting period; not to mention the 'for your consideration' banners in music magazines). Avril needs to know where the voters are and be noted by them. Does Avril want to do it? I'm not sure... but let me tell you something: many big artists, like Adele and Harry Styles, distributed tickets for Grammy voters during their last tours in the US. I don't see Avril doing it to be remembered, but I wouldn't mind. Was her performance at the Grammy Museum ever released? I don’t think I’ve seen it

While I agree that Love Sux should have been a more serious album to have a nomination, Avril was undeniably in one of her best moments critically, boasting a huge cult following among a new generation of artists, including two Grammy Best New Artist winners, not to mention the nostalgia factor from the 2000s and debut anniversary. She was also nominated for the VMAs again - I know VMAs are irrelevant specially critically-wise, but it's something. Almost everything seemed to be in her favor.
However, let's not overlook the fact that MGK was nominated for Best Rock Album the same year with an album that, unlike Love Sux, was heavily criticized by specialized critics. Imho he also holds less respect in the rock field compared to Avril, who has been consistently producing pop-rock/punk influenced songs and albums for over 20 years. I believe that a poor campaign and sexism played significant roles in her snub. The last time a solo female artist won Best Rock Album was in 1999. Hope is close to 0.
It's worth mentioning that she submitted Love Sux for the pop album category, but the Grammys committee moved her submission to the rock category, as reported by Billboard.
I don't know if/how this played any significant role.

Maybe it was too rock to be considered pop but too pop to be rock?

Avril started following Scott Nagelberg, Green Day’s manager. I wonder if this means anything…
