Okay now this...
>> Weeks after announcing their separation on social media, Canadian pop singer Avril Lavigne is finally coming clean on why she and soon-to-be-ex-husband Chad Kroeger had parted ways: she didn’t know he’s in Nickelback.
In an interview with In Style magazine, Lavigne said it hit her like a truck when she found out that the man she had married in 2013 is actually the front man of the much-reviled alternative rock group from Hanna, Alberta.
“Marriage is supposed to be all about honesty, trust and keeping no secrets,” said Lavigne. “He completely misrepresented himself to me. I absolutely had no idea he was the one who wrote and sang that godawful ‘How You Remind Me’ song.”
The singer from Belleville, Ontario told the magazine that had she known that Chad Kroeger is the lead singer of Nickelback, she wouldn’t have given him the time of day, let alone marry him.
“Never in a million years would I have married him if I had known. Like, I used to make fun of Nickelback back in the day and thought they were icky and gross,” said the “Complicated” singer.
Lavigne admitted that she had “totally forgotten about and stopped paying attention to Nickelback” by 2004. By the time she met Kroeger, he had already cut his famously scraggly long blond locks and introduced himself to her as James McIlroy, “a clean-cut handsome hipster who knew his way around a guitar.” She said that he must have known about her hatred for Nickelback because “he never broached the subject of Nickelback or douchey music in general.”
“He told me he had a little band that he jams with from time to time. I just thought he was like one of those guys who, you know, got together with their friends in their basements and started telling people they were in bands,” said Lavigne. “I mean, he used to tell me he was gonna jam with his band, and he’d be gone for like weeks. I always thought that was suspicious. I should’ve known.”
In hindsight, the singer says all of the glaring clues were there: people always asking Kroeger about the next Nickelback album, fans asking for autographs and selfies with him while they’re out in public, people calling him Chad Kroeger.
“I was a fool and ignored it all,” said Lavigne. “I just assumed people were either playing a prank on me or just being nice to him because he was with me.”
The singer said the divorce papers will be drawn up shortly, with “fraud and irreconcilable differences” to be cited as the primary reasons for the end of their union. Through it all, Lavigne manages to look on the bright side and says she doesn’t rule out another walk down the aisle.
“I have to admit, I’m a hopeless romantic. I would totally get married again, in a heartbeat,” she said. “I just have to make sure I run a background check on the guy before I say ‘I do’ again.” <<
