Does that interview sound weird to anyone else? When have we ever heard Avril say stuff like this… “and it’s incredibly serendipitous that our paths have been able to cross like this.” “everyone’s individual voice unified as this massive force” I also thought this. 😂 I was also surprised she mentioned Nobody’s Home when she only played it at the last handful of dates.

Maybe she’s using chatgpt. They probably just emailed her the questions and she copy and pasted it into chat.

I mean people outside bandaids will never notice but I would appreciate a bit more authenticity

Are magazine interviews still thing thing? She does a lot of them but it's always the same stuff being said. Does she and her team think this is a good way to keep her relevant, her fans up to date or is she getting paid for this?

Does she and her team think this is a good way to keep her relevant, her fans up to date or is she getting paid for this? It really depends on the magazine. That Pollstar one was indeed relevant. Interviews and shoots for outlets like Billboard or Rolling Stone are definitely relevant and can add value to her brand. But I wouldn't say the same for some of the other ones she’s been doing... Those might be more about staying visible and serving looks, providing "professional material" that goes beyond a typical anc cheap social media post... so in this way other sites, fanpages, and even other magazines can repost, etc... It's a strategy that seems to work to some extent since it’s given her social media numbers a slight boost. But honestly, I wouldn’t expect much more than that in terms of long term impact. It feels more like a visibility play than an attempt to connect with fans or offer new insights.

Honestly, the whole concert culture has established it's own rules over the years. You are not just a singer anymore, you are a performer, you need to interact with the audience, make it entertaining, eye-catching, a whole modern art museum experience i would dare to say. I'm not saying i agree with that concep, but I understand why it came to this. It only takes a few very talented performers to do that and set the trend. Sadly for Avril, she is just not like that. In a way I admire her for staying true to herself and just go on stage and try to sing her best even if now she's not at her prime voice-wise, struggles with high notes, relies heavily on backing vocal tracks and overall just doesn't deliver the strong and clean vocals she had 15 years ago... Maybe Lyme and age did affect her in some way. Who knows.
Energy was never there. As I said, she's just not type of person. So I definitely understand the criticism. Which is part of the reason I wish she would transition to a more acoustic sound, i don't know, John Mayer type of songs? Boring Taylor? You know what i mean. That way she could just sit and sing, instead of performing songs with 100x more energy than your whole energy as a person.
I'll give her that she gives her all when she's drunk LOL but you can't play that game too often before it ger dangerous.
In conclusion, she needs vocal lessons (in my opinion) again, and maybe acting lessons if she wants to keep these type of concerts or just switch it up completely.

I didn’t go to that show but it depends what your expectations are going in. Avril doesn’t jump around or have extreme SFX going on. It’s not gonna be the scale of the Eras Tour. I thought she was fine for what I went to. She hit on all her biggest songs and the show was just pure fun and nostalgia bait for those who grew up on her music. Could she have had more energy? Sure. But she nailed everything vocally from what I remember. She’s just simply never been super interactive with the audience or been super high energy, even at her peak. If you’re going in expecting theatrics, yes, you will be disappointed.

It’s difficult with Avril because my show on the GH tour was really really good, as I think most of them were. But the description in that post isn’t too far fetched for shows we’ve had from her in the past, so it’s believeable lol. Shes been very inconsistent throughout her career. I’ve definitely seen shows where she just looks like she doesn’t want to be there

That's what I mentioned a few posts ago. Having a "robotic" and choreographed performance like Taylor's for the Eras Tour (not in terms of the production itself, but the consistency of the artist for each concert) can sometimes be better than swinging between amazing shows and dull ones like during the GH Tour. But yeah... I think her health limitations play a huge role here. She’s mentioned repeatedly that she has good days and bad days. When it comes to being energetic, she was never really that kind of performer.
I'm almost sure she still takes vocal lessons, and as far as I know, her vocal coach is still with her. She posted about it a few months ago. It's the same one that instructs Olivia.
Maybe she needs to take more acting and dance lessons indeed. Not necessarily to dance of course, but to feel more confident moving around.
