Yes, my music is based on more of the classic country and classic folklore music. But my music taste is very versatile because I have my favourite artists and bands within each genre, but not mainstream... I don't really like mainstream music that much. I went to Cambridge Folk Festival this year, any bands/artists you like from there? I'm not too knowledgeable on the genre. But I really enjoyed Katzenjammer, John Butler Trio and Treacherous Orchestra. I would just imagine that would have been a wonderful experience, was it? Was Larua Marling or Emmy Lou Harris maybe Frank Turner or Ray Lamontagne there? I know Larua Marling was there a couple of years ago, but I am not sure. Amazing artist you mentioned but sadly to say I don't know Treacherous Orchestra are these any good?

Yeah it was great, not really my kind of music but I do enjoy it Frank Turner was there, he was really good but different from the other acts. They are fantastic, you should definitely check them out!

One of my favourite singers, along with Avril, is Janis Joplin. I'm not sure whether you have heard of her, but she was quite popular in the late 1960s - early 1970s. She was the lead singer of Big Brother and The Holding Company, before she released her first solo album, titled "I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama" and her second one, titled "Pearl in early 1971, a few months after she died. Her complete discography is relatively short, including two albums with Big Brother & The Holding Company and another two, which were her solo ones, followed by her departure from the band. Her music can be considered blues rock, psychedelic rock, psychedelic soul etc. She had an amazing voice, which can be described as kind of "raspy" and "raw". Something that I really love about this woman, as well as the way she wore her heart on her sleeve whenever she sang. Here are some of her songs.

I'm really excited cause tonight I'm seeing two of my favorite bands in concert. One of them is Alt-J, a band I've been in love with since their first song. They have grown quite big so I actually didn't want to go to their concert for I don't really enjoy big concerts with loads of people. But a few weeks ago I found out that they are being supported by my absolute favorite sibling pair there is: Hundreds. You wouldn't know them, I believe, for their are german and quite unknown, too. But Hundreds is a band that creates art and doesn't do warm-ups. So I am actually going to get two concerts today. Both will be playing 1 hour + (only hell knows how Hundreds did that, when's an average supporting ever getting more than half an hour?!) and I really can't wait.
Suuuuuuch a beauty. You should totally spend some time with their lyrics. In this one he's talking about Robert Capa and Gerda Taro. I don't know if you know their History, but I am absolutely amazed by their story and what Alt-J does with it in Taro. It took me years to get the whole thing.
I'm not sure what Avril fans think of Hundreds, cause they are quite complex, but their lyrics are amazing and so is their music. Quite electronic, but still down to earth. I don't know I usually find comfort in their music.

Both her and Jimi Hendrix started their rise to fame after they played the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. I can't say Melissa Etheridge sounds like her but, if that "raspy" and "raw" quality appeals to you, you might like her as well. Also a very powerful singer that puts it all out there.

I found this great song last night from a blog that covers American Idol. Apparently this guy, formerly a member of some band called IM5, has made it onto the upcoming season:
So the way I "discovered" it was actually kind of funny because I was reading through the spoilers on the blog and saw all these videos of the contestants but didn't listen to any of them. I'm reading through the comments and this one girl says that this guy reminded her of Avril, so of course I HAD to listen to see if it was true. I don't think his voice or this song really sounds like anything Avril would do or has done, but the girl commented that she hopes if he makes it far he can be marketed as a "male Avril" and she would like to hear him sing Complicated or Losing Grip. I think Losing Grip would suit him well. Anyway, I thought that was interesting that Avril is apparently still relevant enough for people to draw comparisons.
Anyway, I thought it was a great song and great performance. Normally I'm not into this emo rock type of thing, but I think the kid's got a great voice and can play guitar pretty good too. You can really hear the emotion in his voice.

Don't know whether this belongs here, but this is one of my grandad's songs (under the name Jamie Lee and the Atlantics), In the Night. Their record producer was Joe Meek (the same producer of the Tornados). I think only this song and Little Girl in Blue made it on to an actual record though. But they used to tour the UK and bits of Europe. My grandad is the vocalist.

I still feel like crying because Carly Rae deserves way more. E.MO.TION is still my favorite album of the year, Run Away With Me is literally a perfect pop song, and none of it is being noticed. I hope it gets a Grammy so people will know about it.

Emmy Lou Harris. She is another artist who I find really underrated and very talented her songwriting is so distinctive and creative within her stories, that she captures her emotions and feelings. Again she writes about different and dark songs again she doesn't write about a broken heart half the time it's more about inspirational themes and different stories that I find really inspiring again as a songwriter. Favorite albums Luxury Liner
favorite songs Pancho and Lefty, She, Me and Willie, Night Flyer, Hello Stranger, When I Stop Dreaming just basically the whole Luxury Liner album.

I like the songs inside the album.

Is anyone here a fan of The Pretty Reckless? They're an alternative/hard rock band from New York City, which formed in 2007 if I remember correctly. The lead singer, as some of you might know, is Taylor Momsen. Their entire discography consists of two full albums and two extended plays. Their songs are catchy, yet with very good lyrics. Here are some of their songs.

I've never heard of your grandfather's band and I think it's safe to say I'm the only one here that remembers when The Tornados hit the charts with 'Telstar'. Sorry to say, I liked The Venture's version better.

I still can't understand why people say that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana is a catchy, perfect pop song. Feels extremely indie and psychedelic, only liked the first 7 seconds of the song..
But then, I never liked Nirvana's music.
