My attitude to her (let's call this that ) doesn't depend at all on her getting increasingly more popular (getting "famouser" as she called it back in the days), so I am not worrying about this. Moreover, it won't suffer if she gets yet less popular. Like if her facebook page like count would get decreased for example. It has no impact on my "attitude" to her. And I doubt she does worry about this as well. Noone says getting a new burst of popularity is not good, and I also believe it is even possible (theoretically), but I want to say, seems there is no problem for her to not get super popular again - she has accomplishments and glory; and definitely it is not a problem for me as a fan - I like her and will keep on this.

Personally I don't really care whether or not she ever becomes "big" again. She had 3 huge albums like that in a row which is probably more than what she ever expected and she had a good run, 3 consecutively huge albums is hard to achieve in the industry. She has enough money to never have to work another day in her life but she still continues to make music and tour because she's passionate about it and that's good enough for me. If by chance one of her songs or albums becomes a hit, that's just a nice bonus. But not necessary. She is not a new artist that has to prove herself. She's already done that. People know who she is, even if she is not talked about in the media much anymore like current stars, it's not like she is a nobody. If she was a new artist, I would agree with you, but that isn't the case. The only thing that is really affected is where she can tour because the less popularity she has in certain areas, the less likely it is she tours there and that's really the only thing that sucks.
We also have to keep in mind that she is still dealing with Lyme disease and there isn't much happening with her career right now. But anytime there's been even the smallest thing going on with her, the media writes about it, like her separation from Chad, hanging out with Ryan, defending Nickelback, doing the Charming movie, etc. When there is something newsworthy about her, the media does write about it. And I think due to the whole Lyme thing some people might have changed their opinion about her and it has brought her back into the public's good graces. As long as she doesn't bring back the motherfucking princess image and maybe can show a more mature side of herself on the next album that reflects her journey with Lyme, it might make more people interested again. Nobody wants to see her go through something like Lyme and then come back with more of the same "never growing up, fucking Hello Kitty cupcakes" songs.
As for the state of BA, forums in general aren't as popular as they used to be, for one thing. A lot of her fans communicate on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. If you look at how many followers she has, how many likes and comments she gets every time she posts something, she still gets lots of attention. The attention and interest of fans is just redirected to social media now instead of forums. And as already mentioned, the huge shutdown of the old site was the main reason why we lost a lot of members. And either fans have just lost interest in her and didn't bother transferring to this site, or they figure when she has something out they will come back. But right now there's not much to talk about with her career or new music, so a lot of people might just decide to come back when she's finally got a new album out.
I can assure you that once she releases a new album I'm sure we will see an increase in members joining here, it always does when she starts a new album cycle.
For me the next era/album doesn't have to be huge like Adele or something to be considered a success. I'll consider it a success if 1) Avril can do the kind of music she really wants to make with as little interference from Epic as possible 2) The first single or 2 at least get some decent airplay on radio and make maybe top 20 or top 10 on the charts 3) The album sells somewhere around 300,000-500,000 copies US, 1 million+ worldwide 4) It shows a bit more mature side of her and maybe a different direction musically than what she has done that is something new and unexpected from her, that makes people take her more seriously as an artist.
I think at this point we've got to lower our expectations a bit regarding sales and things like that. Except for Taylor and Adele and people like that, nobody sells millions and millions of records anymore. The days when she used to sell 10 million+ albums are long gone. If she can sell at least half a million in the States that's good enough for me. And a top 20 or higher, platinum selling single. She managed to achieve that with HTNGU in spite of such little promo so I believe she still has the fanbase to make that happen. If she can get some appearances on major TV shows like Dancing with the Stars, The Tonight Show, Ellen, SNL, stuff like that, that would be nice too. But it won't matter how well her album sells if the quality is poor again like AL. The #1 priority should be a high quality album this time. Everything after that is just sprinkles on the ice cream.

THIS !! Let's not ride the horse before the saddle's been placed...so to speak. Basically, let's not hope for great sales before we know the quality of the songs. Even if they're not to most of the member's standards of maturity, they need to be done well...

I'm used to enjoying things that aren't massively popular so it's kind of a non-issue for me. Sure it would be cool if she made a huge comeback and made another Complicated or Girlfriend, and we can't rule that out for sure. It's just too unlikely to bother thinking about.

i'm not sad, i love my flop princess i just really really need new music and idc if it's in the charts, she still remains the biggest mall punk icon True but don't you think if she doesn't get a little more popular she will stop making music someday?? If she's popular she will most likely continue making music.

I'd rather see what will result after let doing her thing, I'm quite appreciated for GL and some tracks in AL like Hello H, GYWYL. I think success like Wish You Were Here is quite enough to me. But the sad true is the less commercial success, the more difficult to tour more places. So it's quite embracing between popularity and creativity. Anyway, still success like WYWH is enough and quite healthy IMO

Quality of creativity is a not well defined thing. I believe, when here it's said about quality, it is rather said about direction - most people don't want that Avril were forced to release something like HK again, or Sipping on sunshine (SoS really). (the last is worse than HK).

If she's popular she will most likely continue making music. I don't think her popularity will affect whether she can still make music or not. If it really came down to it, she can always release stuff independently or with an independent/small label if the major labels felt she wasn't commercially viable anymore. The only things that are affected by her popularity status are being asked to perform on shows and award appearances and touring. Quality of creativity is a not well defined thing. I believe, when here it's said about quality, it is rather said about direction - most people don't want that Avril were forced to release something like HK again, or Sipping on sunshine (SoS really). It seemed lazily thrown together with no clear direction, but besides that, even Avril herself admitted how lazy she was recording the songs and that Chad had to push her to do more takes of the songs, etc. A lot of the writing is lazy, mostly on the MJ songs. The production on them is very cartoonish sounding Disney pop with audible mistakes and glitches in the editing. There is very little album artwork featured and her album thank you ends abruptly without any mention of the fans or a proper sign off. She couldn't even come up with a real title. The whole thing just comes off like no one was interested in making it and it was haphazardly thrown together to appease label heads without a lot of thought or effort or creativity put behind it. When almost all her fans agree it's her worst album, that's really saying something.

Honestly, she wont ever be as big as she was before, thoose days are over simply. But the part is, being as big as she is right now, she could still do tours all over europe and asia and america etc.. For example, bands like Simple Plan who are much less popular than she is right now has always been touring every single part of america(if i remember correctly), asia, south america, europe etc. Because they just take on smaller venues. The issue with Avril is that she is used to bigger arenas so when yoiu have been big for quite a long time, its so hard to get used to being smaller and not selling out smaller venues etc. And when she knows she can get much more money from for example touring asia big venus, rather than getting little money touring smaller venues in europe, its quite obvious why she ditches more and more places. I just hope if there will be a new tour, if she will be able to travel that way again, that she gives more attention to Europe because she's constantly loosing supporters over here and having concerts is so important. But basically, this discussion is just a circle because we know she wont ever be #1 again, that's just a fact and we all kind of know why. The only thing we debate is, will her popularity make her stop making music in the future, or will she get used to being smaller and continue writing music? Who knows? Time will tell.

I strongly agree, she should re-evaluate things and try to lower her fee or something. She could easily fill up 2k venues anywhere, and even 5k in some countries/places; there's a "dormant" fanbase who still supports her. I'll be content with her releasing good albums and touring around the world in a consistent basis, even though she's not as "massive" as she was before.

I would personally love it if she got popular again or if she at least got another hit or two, not because I care about commercial success but because I really regret not having been a fan while she was still popular and well-liked. I'm just really sad that I missed all those years when I would've been able to hear her music on the radio more often and would've gotten excited about it and when I would have been able to talk about her and her music with more people because she had more fans. On top of that, at this point the general public constantly talks shit about her and that kind of pisses me off. I wish people knew just how talented she really is.
Also, the less successful she is, the less places she tours and the less places she tours, the less of a chance there is for her to ever come to my country. Of course, if I ever have the money I would be willing to travel to other countries in order to see her live at least once in my life but it's just very unlikely that I will ever be able to save up that much money. Therefore, I'll only ever have a chance to see her perform if she comes here.

I read something in somewhere else, where said "there's a reason she could rule Dr. Luke", I was quite surprised that I havent realized so. I think the function of no.1 not only for popularity, it also gives company or team on believing their creation so that they might feel more safe and comfortable to let their artists go. Lets face the fact Avril was debuted as pop star, she can never get over of the hit making pressure from the company and they would just want more. I think what she needs now isnt no.1, its people who actually listen to her ideas and further develop into something ultimated in order to gain trust from her team, basicslly recycle the steps from Let Go and UMS, and then slowly get into the no1 milestons with more control to her career...

I'm one of the weirdos that likes AL and I can confirm that IMO it WAS indeed sloppily done and not much effort was put into anything. Those skips in b*tchin' summer though DX Not to mention the unnecessarily and overly edited vocals that encompass the entire record. And the hollow sounding production that adds nothing to the tracks. I'm hoping that if she works with anyone, it'd be max martin or shellback... The songs THEY help make and produce are usually well done 95% of the time.
