This has been posted yesterday. Thank you to all of my fans who have supported the Avril Lavigne Foundation during the last five years. Together we have touched the lives of so many children and young people with disabilities. Our work has allowed Special Olympics athletes from across the world to compete at the World Games, brought music therapy to children with serious illnesses in hospitals, provided Lyme disease treatment to kids who could not afford care, and helped youth with disabilities attend summer camp where they formed lifelong, supportive friendships. The Avril Lavigne Foundation is important to us all and a daily part of our lives – bringing Special Olympics athletes to my concert performances was a highlight of my tour! It is at this time that I am announcing that the Avril Lavigne Foundation will be pausing for the moment. This doesn’t mean that we should stop doing whatever we can to help others. I remain dedicated and will personally keep giving to groups bringing life-changing services to young people during the Foundation’s pause. I hope that all of my fans and the Foundation’s supporters know that every day is an opportunity help someone or educate a friend about an important issue. Each action we take, large or small, is helping to change a life. That’s the spirit that inspired me to start the Foundation and that I carry with me each day. Thank you to all of the nonprofits that have partnered with the Foundation to create and execute incredible programs – together we can dream bigger, do more, and bring hope to young people across the world. I’m excited to see what we will achieve when the Foundation returns! Xo, Avril theavrillavignefoundation.org/users/WUhW2ZGM/blogs/6259931

I wonder why they paused the foundation, and I do hope they will come back!

They had a lot of work this year... Releasing Fly, cooperating with the Special Olympics and the Prizeo-thing. Maybe it'S been too much work for the workers there... idk...

My thought too, however, why pause it officially and not just keep it active without doing anything? To me,a public statement like this can be a ending or maybe mean they wont come back for a long time :/

I think Avril is "pausing" the foundation just now, in order to pursue other personal projects (like her music) and/or focusing on just herself (like fully healing and recovering from Lyme) . A lot of work goes into running a foundation (I would imagine) so she probably felt she could not (at this moment in her life) continue on with the foundation.
It's probably the most sensible move tbh. Avril has probably already outlined her plans for 2016 and possibly feels she cannot fit her foundation into her upcoming schedule in the near future.

It's a shame, but like what Jamie said it's probably so she can focus on other projects- the people at the ALF do a great job and deserve a well earned break IMO.

I've heard of something called Compassion Fatigue, and it's what happens when people that work in the caregiving industry basically have burnout. I can imagine that Avril is giving herself (and other people that work for the foundation), a well deserved break, probably needing to recharge. : )

IMO it is 2 reasons:
1. As others said, Avril herself probably wanting a break as well as her employees and focusing on her health, personal life, other projects, etc. 2. Funding. Her fan base has decreased a lot in the last few years. The only people most likely interested in giving to ALF are her fans, it is not as well recognized as some other celebrity foundations, so likely most of the donations come from her fans. Her fan base is not what it was 5-10 years ago and a foundation cannot rely on the donations of so few people. I'm sure Avril pours a lot of her own money into it as well but she might be interested in putting that money into other things like her medication, which I'm sure is very expensive, hospital visits, etc. that she presumably pays out of pocket for and most likely doesn't have insurance. She might be pouring money into funding music projects like GYWYL video, Fly, etc. There's also probably a lot of legal fees involved due to her recent divorce. Even though she has millions of dollars she can't support her own charity forever. Eventually her real life costs take precedence.
The foundation itself is getting a bit unrealistic with how much they expect fans to contribute, I remember them asking like $100 for a bracelet made of guitar strings and the Prizeo campaign asked quite a lot of money for basic items, even for charity. Her fans are mostly kids or 20 somethings, nobody can afford to donate that kind of money, even if it is for charity. I suspect they just aren't making as much money from donations as they used to when her fan base was bigger. And she is not as prominent of a pop star as she was from 2002-2008, she is less likely to get sponsors and things when she's not as relevant and as in demand by the industry as she once was.
Sad to say it, but I think this may be the beginning of the end for ALF. I deep down believe they have financial troubles and can no longer support themselves. I hope that it's not the case and that it will return because it's a great cause, and who knows, maybe Avril just wants to simply take a break from it, but I just don't know. I sort of figured sooner or later this was going to happen, it happened to Britney Spears's charity several years ago.

This is very disappointing. I dont think Avrils health issue is a reason for the pause. There are employees doing 99% of the job - Avril herself is giving money, signing autographs and just works as a representer. It's not that much work tbh. While I can imagine that the donations from her fans are low (which I can absolutely understand), it would be disappointing if that is the reason why the foundation is pausing. Avril has so many millions, she can afford the best health-care, a huge house, cars, security etc and a foundation at the same time. Well, at least if she didnt invest her money in the wrong things but she always seemed pretty down to earth when it comes to spending money. So her money should be enough + she has many famous friends that have money and can help her with their connections and fans. I THINK there might be legal issues or issues within the foundation, for example problems with the employees etc.
Anyway, this is disappointing for me cause I liked the effort Avril started to put into this foundation the last year.

It's not totally sad at all, she has tried giving the best role model even as she is rich, as well as the achievements are great, especially, it has raised other pop singers' attention like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga. We cannot summarize anything yet at the moment yet IMO. If she will be able to make better music during the operation paused, she could make a better song to raise money for the foundation.

Please don't look like operating a nonprofits firm is an easy thing, it never is, especially there is not government back up. You literally calculate everything just right on point. And I believe there should be a lots meetings. Considering Avril's health, it should be paused. The foundation is name after her, it isn't about just give the money to someone and operate it, it contains Avril's beliefs and concept written in mission statement. Otherwise, she didn't even have to found ALF, just donate the fuckin money... As she has written, " I hope that all of my fans and the Foundation’s supporters know that every day is an opportunity help someone or educate a friend about an important issue. Each action we take, large or small, is helping to change a life. That’s the spirit that inspired me to start the Foundation and that I carry with me each day."She wants to be a role model who move the ass and go ahead helping people and keep it in mind. That's the pain point ~ Besides, being solo artist has a lot to handle, just the job alone, you won't have extra time for family, and even ALF. To me, Avril has done the the best she can

If she's doing this to pursue music and try to focus on her album 100%, then I don't think it's a bad idea. She states that she's doing really well in her treatment, hence, she might want to start working actively on album 6. Probably the foundation required enough time to make her feel overwhelmed and "out of breath". We know that when it comes to Avril there's never too much going on for her at the same time. She's either completely focused on music (2011-2012), or completely focused on fashion (2012, after finishing the first cut of AL that was then dropped by Flopic), or on her charity, as we saw throughout 2015. And she already said that this year she would work full-on for album 6, so maybe that's what's going on. She wants to devote her time to music, and of course her health which should be her top priority.
