It is sad that many people hate this album very much. The album has some bad songs but also has many very good and emotional songs. Without WTH and Smile it would be filler free. |

Without WTH and Smile it would be filler free. i agree with you so much here!!! i feel like GL is overlooked by so many! i mean it tells a pretty deep story. i find myself relating to these more vulnerable tracks like Not Enough, Push, Remember When etc. it’s so sad what happened to it in the end, with all that she went through to get it out to the public. |

I used to think I liked this album well enough, I never loved it, but I thought I liked it more than most people. However, before Love Sux came out I listened to all her albums again and I was surprised how much I suddenly didn't like GL that much anymore. By the time it got to the end, I was just so bored with it. The concept was good on paper, but the execution was poor, even aside from the Max Martin songs which shouldn't have been there. The second half of the album is where it finally starts to sound like the album she wanted, but ironically it's also the most boring section. All the songs just sound too similar to one another and blend together. The writing is kind of bland and the production is way too simplistic. It's just a boring album to me, to be perfectly honest. I might honestly rank it as my least favorite record from her, at least AL isn't boring even if the production is all over the place. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed that album on a relisten as I always thought it was my least favorite.

I love most of Goodbye Lullaby part from the singles basically.
Not Enough is still one of my favourite songs, as well as 4Real and Stop Standing There.

Goodbye Lullaby is her best vocal performance vocal.. And maybe the production is simple, but it was the purpose, isn't it? Then i don't think it's that poor considering the amount of backing vocals it has, the effort was there. And Avril did even great at producing, better than even some real producer tbh. Lyrics are simple ok, but they convey emotions and honestly they tell more than Love Sux where it's kinda monotonus: you are an assohole, i'm the best etc etc. Well, i always said how Deryck was her muse....

So "Goodbye Lullaby" was supposed to be titled as "Pink Crust". To be honest, I never heard the title before. Fake album title such as "Crash & Burn" was floating around that time. Judging by the title, it seems that it's "The Best Damn Thing" part 2. I think the album title came to life when RCA sent her back to studio to make some upbeat songs. At that time, she worked with Alex Da Kid and produced a 'hit' song (Candy) and some pop rock and hip hop leaning songs and she also worked with Max Martin with upbeat songs such as "Dancing Crazy (1st song they worked together) and "What the Hell" (2nd song they worked together)

She named it after the song Goodbye and I bet it was recorded since 2009. She said that the album would be acoustic and mellow and RCA wanted it to be more pop.

A working title for UMS was Inside My Head.

 I think that Avril's vision of this album was to be different than it came out. In early interviews, she said that she was going back to the old sound a bit, and in the end, the producers remade half of the album, adding more pop songs ... I have long wanted to ask someone experienced about this "document". Could this be true? Avril really worked with these authors. If this is true, then Avril has almost an entire unreleased album. I think the album could sound like Not Enough, Everybody Hurts, Stop Standing There, Gone, Complete Me... and I would really like that. |
