Well I just watched the music video/listened to the song in who knows how long. I'm gonna start with the positives I took from it. It's definitely a catchy song. I had to listen to another song after to get it out of my head. That can be taken as a positive or a negative, but since there aren't a lot of positives I'll put it as a positive. The other positive is that I actually think her look in the music video isn't that bad. This is coming from a guy that doesn't really like the color pink too. I also am actually a fan of the half-shaven haricut too. I don't know why but I've always kinda liked it. Now to the negatives. First obviously the lyrics are awful. I don't get offended by the lyrics or even think they're that mean though. Im not gonna go in depth because other people already have though. I also don't think the song is racist at all. For people saying it uses stereotypes, well it did do well in Japan, so that kinda means there's at least a little truth to it. Anyway, I don't think the EDM influence was very good in this song and it definitely gets annoying after a short while. I also don't know why Avril acts like an idiot during the music video. I'm sure the song was more controversial when it was first released, but I don't get to upset with the song because she has pretty much a hundred songs that are better and we are getting more. Right now it is more just funny and humorous to me. Although pretty much til the end of her career people will remember her for this song and they will talk shit on Avril fans for it. I am definitely not a fan of it but it does make for some pretty funny memes and it's fun to joke around about it and not take it seriously. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go watch it again. My takeaway from this post is that you're actually a huge fan of the song/music video and it's slowly entering your top 5 Avril songs. I respect you for admitting this, because not a lot of people are willing to do that. Not really but thanks lol

I can't recall if I ever really hated the song. I just remember that after hearing it for the first time I was pretty shocked. Anyway, "Hello Kitty" is definitely one of Avril's songs that I rather dislike, but that's mostly because of its genre. EDM? Not with me. Not at all. Urgh! But eventually, "Hello Kitty" does have a few good things about it: I like the electric guitars in the verses; they kinda remind me of the instrumental of "Candy". And I actually think the lyrics are quite funny, not bad or boring. I mean, she uses a rhyme scheme of AABCCB in the verses, and the lyrics are not repetitive either (except for this "kawaii" of course). I believe if it wasn't for the chorus and the bridge, I might even like this song. But the chorus and bridge just ruin it all. I can't even decide which of these is worse. I guess it's because in these two sections the song turns into pure EDM, which is, as I stated before, simply not at all my taste. There's another good thing I have to add, though: I like how Avril sings a few words so squeakily, e.g. the "someone" in "someone chuck a cupcake at me". I've never heard any other singer produce such noises before; it's pretty astounding. As for the music video: I like the colours. That's about it. The rest is so cringeworthy. Avril keeps making this duck face, which - sorry, Avril - makes her look so stupid. And what with the waving in the black and white shots? And the sushi scene? I know the video is simply supposed to be fun, but I really can't laugh about that video. It's ridiculous. After it was released, I almost felt a bit ashamed of calling myself a fan. Sometimes when I watch the video, I also get the feeling that Avril's happiness in it isn't entirely true. As though she herself had realized that the whole thing was rather ridiculous after all... But despite all that, the video doesn't strike me as racist. It's very stereotypical, of course, but as Avril already tweeted back then: why would she film a video in Japan for her Japanese fans if she was racist? If she had done the same here in Germany, using the stereotypes of everyone wearing lederhosen and drinking beer, I would have laughed too, even though it's completely rubbish. But maybe that's just me and my weird sense of humor . The live performance from Indonesia really is pretty bad. Not that she sounds bad, she just doesn't seem into it at all. But maybe she hardly moves because she's afraid of the bow getting loose or of ruining her skirt?? Well, to sum it all up: I dislike "Hello Kitty" because of the EDM parts. If it wasn't for those I might like it. But the song still has something that makes it stand out. So, it's not my most disliked song by Avril. There are a few songs that I like even less. The music video however is definitely her worst.

I didn't hear the whole song until a few months ago. At first I was so disapointed that she decided to use that song but I like it now.

I'm fine with the lyrics, I like the double-meaning and it's fun. The production ruins it for me. My ears hurt listening to it. It's so uninspiring, uncreative, cheap EDM. The chorus is so bad... I never thought Avril would deliver such bad work. I also thought that Avril was on drugs filming the video. There is something so off about her and the video and Avril herself are so unprofessional. I feel like she was high (possibly weed or stuff like strong painkillers). No evidence though, just my idea. I think the video is using stereotypes, which I don't like and I can see why people say it's racist. As I'm not japanese, I don't dare to say "it's not racist! LOL!", I think Japanese people have to decide that. Just wanted to say that I appreciate the amount of sensitivity you're giving to this issue. Even though I don't personally think the video is racist, I see many Avril fans pre-emptively dismissing the issue almost as a defense mechanism. Then they go way too far in the other direction by mocking the concept of cultural appropriation as if it's not a problem that exists. Not everyone does this obviously, but it kind of bothers me whenever I see it happening. Also, happy birthday!

I never hated Hello Kitty, but it is the only Avril song that I can honestly say that I don't like. The lyrics don't mean anything and the style of music doesn't do anything for me either. I get that it's just meant to be a bit of fun though - it sort of reminds me of the novelty songs you listen to when you're a kid, that don't mean anything but are actually quite catchy. I just hope that there won't be a repeat of it in AL6.

Not a big fan of the song but I sometimes like to enable a private session in Spotify and listen to it a few times.

When the Avril Lavigne album was released, this was the one song I kept coming back to and playing on repeat. To the point my housemate had to tell me to stop playing it because it was driving them insane.
I know it's not the best song in the world, but the verses are great and damn that "Meow" gets me every time! The chorus at the end with the overlay of the bridge should have been used as the proper chorus as it gives more substance to the song.
The music video had so much potential but ultimately it's not very good! Everytime I watch it I wonder why Avril doesn't do the choreographed dance that the backing dancers do, it would have added uniformity to the video.

Sorry to pump this thead but I didnt have any so I make myself one. Since I dun want to repete thr negativness so let me start with somethimg possitive
For the song itself, made to the best job. I would say there are unpredictable melody and beat to drive me crazy and feeling fun. I can completly feel the aggrassive intention interms of the vibe and building up. The fact it is a stupid song but trying to make the best out of it really is amazing.
However, it shouldnt be released by Avril someone who is respected as a life changing artist or songwriter for the cure. This distroies her image

Let we all just refresh our memory with the greatest song of the century, the song which will definitely be remembered in 100 years from now, the song that Freddie Mercury, MJ, 2pac, Frank Sinatra ,Adele, Whitney Houston and many more wish that the HK would be their song, song that every country would like to have it as national anthem.
