How could How You Remind Me be in top 20? And maybe i'm the only one but i never liked Hello Heartache: i dislike the lyrics, the sound and especially the vocals. Never get the hype over it, it's just so bland, i don't know.. I was so disappointed when i heard it, David Hodges is a great writer and the best he and Avril came up is goodbye my friend, hello heartache, it's not the end, it's not the same ?

I was surprised Girlfriend wasn't top 10. But then again the dislike towards TBDT and the motherfuckn princess character. But it's one of her most iconic songs 🤔

"Things I'll Never Say" is a really nice song, very easy to listen to. I think it's a bit similar to "Mobile" in that way. And it's also something that's quite perfect for car rides. It's not one of my favourites, though.
"Hello Heartache" could be one of the best songs of Avril's career, but her weird accent annoys me so much, ugh. Such a shame. Why did she have to do that?? On a positive note, I absolutely love the "la la la"s and the synths.
"Tomorrow" keeps switching between being nice and kinda meh to me. But mostly I would say it's nice. Just not much more to me. Dunno, I guess I just find it kinda hard to connect to it or something? Haha I really don't know. It's a good song, but I wouldn't have put it so high in the ranking.
"Who Knows" is really great, I love everything about it except for the chorus, which I find melodically too repetitive (just keeps switching between G and C chords) and lyrically kinda bland. "Do what you do, just keep on laughing". Hmmm... okay. Still, overall it's at least 8/10 to me.
"Girlfriend" is one of the few songs off TBDT I really enjoy. It's just so much fun. Maybe wouldn't have put it that high in the ranking, though.
"Anything But Ordinary" is amazing, fantastic lyrics, fantastic melody. I especially love the line "somebody rip my heart out and leave me here to bleed". I take it to mean that Avril would rather be kicked around by others than trying to fit in and be like everyone else. Rather be the outcast than one of these bland people who just follow the "cool kid".
"Remember When" is one of the strongest songs off GL imo. Fantastic piano, emotion, and the bridge with those high vocals (especially the harmonies, wow!) - amazing. The chord progression is just a bit to meh for me. Basically just the same four chords again and again and again. And some of the lyrics are really lame. "I told you everything, you know my feelings" or "[...] what a big surprise". Those are imo some of the worst lyrics Avril's ever written. Fortunately, there are some really great lyrics in this song, too. I've always loved the line "These feelings, I can't take no more, this emptiness in the bottom drawer".
"Losing Grip" is another great song and a good album opener, but it's not one of my favourites. It's mostly that last chorus that bugs me a little, it just drags on too much. I'm still happy it nearly reached top 20. Somehow I thought it was rather underrated, maybe because I rarely see people talk about it...
"Together" and HYRM are both 10/10 for me. "Together" is just so wonderfully dramatic and powerful. The backing vocals in the last pre-chorus, damn, they really add something to the whole thing. And the outro with the almost screamed "together... together... together, no... together..." and then ending on that feedback, fantastic!
HYRM is Avril's best cover to date. It's so different from the original, but I love it so much more. The piano and drums are pure magic and Avril's vocal performance is one of her best to date.

Ok this listing surprised me. I enjoy them alll but I wouldn't put them in this order. Specially Slipped Away, it's one of my least favorite songs.

Slipped Away being so high is surprising, I mean I like it but 11 is very high.
Think Everybody Hurts is generic rubbish.
Smile surprises me too - the chorus is gold but the verses let it down massively.

Yes, I love "Take Me Away" and "Fall To Pieces"! Glad to see them in the top 20.
I used to love "Smile" but by now it's kinda meh to me. I also don't like the general sound of it, it all sounds a little high-pitched somehow.
"I Will Be" is so, so overrated. I hardly like it at all, it's so cheesy, drags on, and Avril's vocals sound too high-pitched. I gave it 4/10.
"Hush Hush" is a really nice ballad, but honestly, the piano disappoints me a little. I'd just expected a little more from David Hodges. I still enjoy it a lot overall, but I definitely wouldn't have put it in the top 20.
"Everybody Hurts" is one of my all-time favourites. Simple lyrics, simple melody, but so incredibly emotional, it always makes me cry.
"Sk8er Boi" is another of my favourite songs, it's just so much fun, despite the slightly Disney-ish vibe.
"Give You What You Like" could've been better if it had some kind of highlight. Maybe some heavier drums and some electric guitars in the last chorus or something. Also, those lyrics with the cigarette ("I'll give you one last chance to hold me, if you give me one last cigarette") have always annoyed me a little. Idk, I just don't like them. But that's the only criticism I have, otherwise the song is really good, definitely one of the best off AL.
I used to find "Slipped Away" quite meh. Very good instruments, but the lyrics are just too simple. In addition to that, I've always found it very difficult to relate to, never having lost anyone in my family or friends or sth. (fortunately). But that changed last year, when the vet unexepectedly found a very fast growing tumor in our dog's mouth. Our dog lived for 6 more weeks, then we had to euthanize him. He was only 10 years old, which really isn't old for a Spitz. I know it's just a dog, but to us he really was like a family member. He was such a funny fur ball, was always there when we needed him, always made us smile. He was something like a therapy dog to us, especially to my mum. And then, all of a sudden, he was gone. So when I listened to "Slipped Away" before this rating (which was also the first time I listened to it after out dog died), it just hit me right in the feels. After all these years, I could finally relate to the song more than ever before. God, how I cried! Since then, I really love "Slipped Away". I'm really positively surprised about its averagely high rating, though. Hadn't expected that at all, I thought it was quite unpopular because of the simple/bad lyrics.

Yeah I never really thought much of Slipped Away until I found it more relatable. My best friend passed away about 6 years ago at 21 and SA became a much more meaningful song. I know the lyrics are really simple but “I’ve had my wake up, won’t you wake up, I keep asking why” gets me. I feel like there’s a lot of obvious emotion in the song so it gets away with the simple lyrics - it’s to the point and honestly i don’t see the need to get all poetic in lyrics about death because the SA are so relatable to anyone who has ever lost someone. (Completely understand on the dog bit by the way - hits you just as hard as the death of a human! Wonderful animals)

"Slipped Away" is a great song, you just have to be in the mood to listen to it. The tastes are subjective, but I think it's especially important what that song means to you. "Slipped Away" reminds me my grandparents, and I often can't listen to it even though I love this song very much.

At the end of the day Smile is not hated... These results got me thinking that Avril fans love her fun/bratty songs more than her serious ones.. I just can't believe that Smile, What The Hell, Here's To Never Growing Up, Girlfriend were higher than songs like Remember When, Not Enough, Darlin, Unwanted, Let Go, Get Over It and so on.
It reminds me to Taylor fans saying that they miss and prefer her country material, but yet when there is a poll there are her pop songs that are higher. LOL

I can accept that Head Above Water is so high because it's new and it's all due the hype.. But it's not better than Innocence and Keep Holding On in any ways.

I think Head above water is a lot better than Keep Holding On and Innocence. But the three are great. It's a matter of opinions and tastes. I think HAW is one of her best songs and it deserves that position. I agree with the top 10 more or less.
My top 10 would be:
1- My Happy Ending 2 - I'm with you 3 - How does it feel 4 - Head above water 5 - Nobody's home 6 - Who knows 7 - Complicated 8 - Don't tell me 9 - Together 10 - Wish you were here

I can accept that Head Above Water is so high because it's new and it's all due the hype.. But it's not better than Innocence and Keep Holding On in any ways. It’s definitely better than KHO. Better lyrics, her voice is far superior, the instrumental is even more epic and the most important thing: the message.

Take Me Away - I've always thought this was really underrated, so I'm surprised to see it in the top 20. I think it's got a really great vibe and is a great opener for UMS. One of my favorites. Smile - Meh. It should not have ranked in the top 20. The chorus is good but the verses are bad and totally ruin the song. I used to really like Smile but I think I've just outgrown it. I Will Be - I used to really like this one too but I haven't listened to it in ages. I really liked it mainly because of her vocals on the bridge "Do you see, you're all I NEEEEED!!!" and the final choruses. I think it's better than WYG though. Hush Hush - When I first heard it I thought it was just ok and nothing special, but then it grew on me. I think it's a nice song. It's not in your face or anything, it's subtle, but it's nice. Everybody Hurts - I always thought this was kind of overrated by fans. It could have just been so much better, with some better and more imaginative lyrics. Sk8er Boi - Another one I feel is overrated. I know it's one of her most known and iconic songs, but there's something about it that I just don't care for. I'll bop to it, but it's not a favorite of mine, really. It's pretty juvenile. And sounds kind of like a Disney star doing their idea of a pop punk song. Again, I think it's one of those songs I've just sort of outgrown at this point. Give You what You Like - Yeah this one has also always been a bit overrated by fans. It just doesn't go anywhere. It's a cool vibe with better lyrics than she normally writes, but I wish the bridge had kind of climaxed instead of just repeating the same melody over and over. It's sort of a boring song, really. Fall To Pieces - I am in the middle on this song. It's not a favorite of mine, in fact I think it's sort of dull, but it's not bad. I never got why people really liked it so much though. It doesn't really do anything for me, personally. Slipped Away - The thing that saves this song from being a total trainwreck is the emotion. Otherwise, the lyrics are just plain bad. Simple lyrics can still be good. These just aren't... at all. For a song that is so emotional, I can't fathom how she couldn't come up with anything better than "I miss you so bad, oh it's so sad." And there are really no excuses for the poor lyrics when there was even a co-writer. How two people couldn't come up with better lyrics is just... Don't Tell Me - I always loved this one. I feel like it doesn't get that much love. Keep Holding On - I feel like this one is also underrated, but I'm glad to see it rank in the top 10. I think this is one of her best ballads ever. It's one of her few songs that has both great lyrics and a great melody. It's one of my all-time favorites from her, like top 5 favorites. Complicated - My #1 favorite song from her I think. Not only because it's her first song and one of her most iconic songs, but I just think in the realm of pop music, this will forever be remembered as one of the best songs from that time period. It was also kind of revolutionary for its time too, like there were hardly any female pop stars doing guitar-driven pop music. Michelle Branch is the only other one I can think of. Avril really kicked off a whole movement with this, there were a lot of copycats after her. She basically helped shift a whole trend in pop music. And Complicated is just an epic pop/rock track, I feel like even though it's from 2002, it holds up pretty well. I always have to default to it as my favorite song because it's the song that started it all and you can really never go wrong with it. Wish You Were Here - This one gets a lot of hate because it's a generic pop song with repetitive lyrics. I think it's a grower though. And her vocals are pretty epic on it. It's a good song to have on in the background since it just repeats, but it has a nice beat. Don't know if I would have ranked it that high though. Innocence - I like this one too. It gets a lot of hate for some reason. When You’re Gone - I never liked this one terribly much. It's probably my least favorite from TBDT if I had to choose. It's just soooo cheesy. Head Above Water - I don't think I would have ranked it in the top 5, I think it ranked high because it's new. I do agree it has better lyrics than what she normally writes and of course we all know the meaning is very special. I was listening to it the other day and I listened to it twice because it was nice to have on while I was driving but kind of having it in the background so I could concentrate. I think the chorus could have been written a little better though. It feels sort of clumsy and like there should be an extra line at the end, but instead it just goes into "Don't let me don't let me drown" which doesn't follow the rhythm or rhyming pattern of the lines before it. It's just oddly constructed IMO. I don't think it's necessarily better than KHO.
