I commend you Bob for not wasting all your spare time but all of those numbers can be found online and they are updated hourly. 😋

Several weeks ago, when people started to die in my country, I started to compute the death rate here and several other countries. China, because it started there. South Korea, because they seemed to have a handle on the situation. Italy, because they seemed to be suffering the most. And, the United Stated, because that's where I live. Since I was doing these calculations every day, I created a spreadsheet, to simplify the task. I will post a screenshot below, for the last week, as an example. I am wondering, if there is anyone here that would like to join me in this, contributing results from their country, and/or any country they have an interest in. If interested, I promise to make it easy. You won't have to know anything about spreadsheets. If nobody else is interested. I won't mention it again. If only one other person is interested, we can do it by PM. If more than one person is interested, I will create a separate topic for it. I think the most accurate numbers in the world are gathered by worldometers.info, which does a remarkable job for all, even the tiniest of countries, but I'm not sure whether that chart of yours is really something worth investing too much time into. For example, my small 2-million-state tested many thousands very early on - at some point we had as many performed total tests as entirety of the US. Recently, though, they've said that it's aimless to test unless for a specific purpose (troubling symptoms, vulnerable groups), so the numbers of officially detected cases slowed, despite virus spreading as quickly as before. Hence, until we get antibody test estimates, there is just no real way to know where we are with hospitalization and mortality rate.

I don't condone attacks on media, but seeing many headlines and opinion pieces, I see more and more unsubstantiated sensationalism, and from reputable sources even. I mean, the situation is serious, why do some see the need to blow it up even further?

Yeah I’ve noticed a lot of that. There’s a lot of carefully worded “xx year old dies with coronavirus” rather than “of”, so people read and are like “omg it’s killed a 13 year old” when the reality is they likely died of something else but happened to have it when they died. It’s a big enough story without the ott media

As silly as this sounds, i'm really disappointed in how Avril has handled all this. The tour cancelled, of course that makes sense but it's all been so vague and she's basically dropped off the planet aside from the odd cooking video here or there.
You see hundreds of artists right now doing more then ever to connect with their fans, help keep them distracted, doing something positive for them, and Avril is just?
I know she is one person but I guess I thought in a time like this she'd be more present.

You know shits serious when the queen schedules a televised address to the nation <3 Speaking of royalty, it's almost hilarious how easily Charles overcame the Corona, one day it was announced he's isolating himself, a couple of days later he's reportedly past the worst of the symptoms, it was like a damn cold to him, lol. And regarding Avril, I'd rather she doesn't speak, if the alternative is being as tone deaf and/or elitist as certain celebrities happened to be. I know many had good intentions in mind, but I have a feeling certain individuals have a big degree of narcissism shining out of them, and this situation only amplified that.

Solid bunch the Windsor’s I won't say I'm a particular fan of any royalty to say the least, but Queen's Corona speech was glorious in its own way. The fact that she recalled her first broadcast from 1940, and made a reference to a wartime song sung by Vera Lynn, who is also still alive, is a rather surreal moment, given that we're in the year 2020, a date that was associated with far away futurism in many movies from 1950s and up to 1990s.

Not sure what my favourite thing about being British is today. Over a third of the country tuning into a rallying cry from Queenie, the fact there’s 100,000 people in a queue to access the Cadbury website to buy an Easter egg in case they can’t go to the shop, or the collective disappointment (in my area at least) that this years cheese rolling has been cancelled.

You mean the event where a wheel of cheese is rolled down the hill and a bunch of people get hurt? How popular is that thing? Ive seen news talking about it every now and then, but it always seemed like an event of a dying rural village to be having..

It’s exclusive to one hill (just down the road from my house actually!). Roll a cheese down the hill, people throw themselves down after it, if you get to the bottom first you win the cheese. Not much skill to it other than tolerating broken bones. It’s very popular locally, not so much nationwide but I think most people are vaguely aware of it as it’s such a weird little quirk!
