Just listened to the whole song. To be completely honest, I'd expected it to be a better. And I had already had rather low hopes / expectations. Like the fact that she just changed "I" to "we" and "me" to "us" etc. Or that she wouldn't change the production (much). I had expected those things. But I had hoped that she would be a bit cleverer about changing some lyrics. Just like Tom pointed out, "we're stronger, that's why we're alive" doesn't really fit and indeed sort of sounds like all those who passed away due to the virus weren't fighting enough. Like, it doesn't necessarily have to do with strength whether you survive this virus or not. And the bridge... jeez, really? "This will be behind us". It doesn't rhyme and it sounds so generic, bland, and unemotional. I almost wish they'd just left it at "you can't cut or scar us". I'm also disappointed with the vocal production. It sounds a bit muffled somehow and sort of like they just quickly put it together. And why overedit her voice like this on "we are warriors" just before the 2nd verse? This production reminds me very much of "Fly", and "Fly" is imo one of the weakest produced songs of Avril's.
Man, I really wish I had more positive things to say. But unfortunately the only thing that I really liked were her vocals in the 2nd verse, when she sang "like the armor you will see us shine". I really liked that flowing melody.
I can't believe that despite really not expecting much, I am once again disappointed with Avril's music. When any of my other favourite artists and bands announce something, I can simply enjoy the anticipation. With Avril, I always have to worry if I'm going to like it (not even love it, just like it) or if it's going to be another case of . Idk, maybe it's not actually that bad and I've simply outgrown her and her music.

YouTube will remove it sooner than later so be quick. "No I'M not afraid" at 0:44 . I'm dead ๐ Hmm, I think (or rather hope, haha) that it's just sung a bit inarticulately, 'cause I can hear both "I'm" and "we're", depending on what I concentrate on / expect.

Gosh, now let's hope she doesn't mess up the lyrics during the live performance... I mean, just flipping from 'I' s to 'We' s is asking for a mistake. Especially when the song was originally about her personal battle, so she initially wrote the song from her own perspective. A mistake is easily made, but that would be just... Well, I don't know.
Not expected much in the first place, but still feel like this wasn't really 'necessary'. Great thinking, best intentions, but no. Such a shame.

Obviously this was produced in the most rush/basic way, like fly ๐. I did not expect any extraordinary result though. At least she's really out there making a huge effort helping people in her own way (we know she likes being independent lol).

The unintentional "we're stronger, that's why we're alive" part is just so funny to me. Avril: you didn't fight good enough so rip ๐๐๐๐
But this is why you have a management/team to tell you about things that could eventually be misinterpreted.

I love the enhancement of violin, enhanced the emotion as well. But I really dislike the vocal sorry. Sounded even more autotuned than Let Go, HTNG, WTH. It would be perfect if times allowed. Unfortunately she didn't plan ahead to cause this. After all, it's no worse than Fly anyway. Overall, I think it's better than the original song except the vocal

We need an international commission to solve this. ben545 and katy can represent Her Majesty, a user from Cali whose name I forgot, Uncle Bob and BogoGog24 can represent the land that spans from Detroit down to Houston, from New York to L.A., and the rest of us can represent each our own country, just like in Eurovision, which has been unfortunately called off this year. Twelve points go to - Armenia! Now, where was I? Just listened to the whole song. To be completely honest, I'd expected it to be a better. And I had already had rather low hopes / expectations. Idk, maybe it's not actually that bad and I've simply outgrown her and her music.Always looking for the glimmer of positivity, lol I didn't expect much because I never really liked the (original) song, unlike many people here and elsewhere. I liked the notion of putting out a fight song, but the original seemed full of uncomfortable voice stretching and generic lines, so I thought - hey, the pandemic is quite a specific, direct theme you can address, Alicia Keys is going to premiere a song on the theme on CNN tonight, so how hard can it be to make new keep-holding-on-themed (not referring to KHO) lyrics over the Warrior melody? Well, apparently, for Avril it proved too big of a challenge. " We're stronger, that's why we're alive", " we won't stop and we won't drop 'till the victory's ours" (so we'll drop dead right after getting through the pandemic?) point that there wasn't put much thought into this little project at all, and furthermore; The unintentional "we're stronger, that's why we're alive" part is just so funny to me. Avril: you didn't fight good enough so rip ๐๐๐๐ But this is why you have a management/team to tell you about things that could eventually be misinterpreted. You don't need no management or team to take a couple of solemn hours with only you and yourself to really think about each and every word and what it means. We all get many moments when we don't even notice how something may come out not-as-intended, insensitive or even offensive without us being aware, but the big plus at writing a song is, that you have all the time in the world to take a deep breath, write it down, say it quietly or out loud, say it with different intonation, check Wiktionary what a word means, and when you're really really sure its containing the message you want to send, go to the microphone, and send it out to the world to hear. It doesn't need to be super deep by any means - sometimes celebrity artists get some kind of a "saviour" delusion where they think their super-and-oh-so-extraordinary insight, provided to us through overdone lyrics, will somehow make a revelation to the world that will be on par with the second coming of Jesus, but one doesn't need any of that. Make it simple, make it 'for the plebeians', but make it relevant - struggling with illness can be about fighting or even strength, but if we take for example oncology wards, there even those who don't make it through are considered strong, fighters, warriors, you name it, so her line about strong=alive is tone-deaf not only to Coronavirus situation, but to victims of any serious illnesses. On a mildly positive note, I like the quieter part from 2:55 onwards, for a few seconds, she manages to put out her 'trademark' soft voice again.

The "lyric changes" reminds me of the time I used Breakaway for a 60s themed play and changed 1-2 phrases to fit the narrative and felt so proud of myself. I was also bragging about Avril having written the song when she didn't do anything. Ah fun naive times
BTW I began to play the song on YouTube and noticed, like always, some fans saying not to post the song in a nasty way. Usually I don't pay attention to those people but they are right that this is a charity single and what little profit this song will gain through streams will be given toward people who need it. Maybe save the rest of your plays for when it's officially out in your country. Let's be real not all of us will be playing this song much so might as well let whatever we stream count. It was released for a good cause after all. And those who are deeply devoted to playing it after the hype of today ๐

It's ok. Aside from the minimal lyric changes (and the fact some of them could have been done better), I think this project comes across as rushed like she put it together in an afternoon. I don't think the vocal production is the greatest, then again it wasn't on the original either. I like the minimal addition of a violin in the beginning. I do think some of the lyric changes are a little clumsy, like "It will be behind us," that doesn't rhyme with anything before it. It's clear she put pretty minimal thought and effort into this. I likely won't listen to it that often. However, with that being said, I still think it's a nice gesture on her part that she is at least attempting to do something, even if the end product is kind of meh. I think the song will sound better with the video, the images of people helping and stuff I think will make the song seem more powerful and emotional. After all, this is something only for charity and I do think as @biggerwow pointed out it's important to save our streams for the real thing since proceeds will be donated. If this were a lead single from a forthcoming album, that would be different, I'd be highly disappointed she came out with something like this. But for a charitable cause, I don't think it's a big deal that it's not her greatest work ever.
