Have you guys noticed that the song's lyrics are actually really smart? They're comparing the person they are or were attached to to some kind of drug, addiction... The person was abusive and manipulative but if they saw them again they would "relapse" because it's just too vicious and tempative. And the "burn for you" line is a metaphor to smoking or lighting up some other kind of drug. It's repetitive but they really do send some message with this, whew He actually made this statement about the lyrics: "This song holds a lot more weight than meets the eye. There’s a very deep message within it.” It's definitely deeper than what's on the surface. I think I could get into the content because I've been in one of those relationships a couple years ago. Nice to know that about the lyrics!

The way this grows and Grows and GROWS with each listen. It's been really a long time since i was this excited about Avril doing upbeat tracks. I'm not really a fan of her pop upbeat material from last decade. It lacked something. Her 10's were all about the ballads for me. Now i feel like i'm just ready to have (really) fun again! I'm with you on that. Tbh, a fun, heavy and upbeat rock album from her is all I need coming out of this pandemic

I know... don’t compare to Taylor but those two tracks she dropped today... ugh Av please write with Taylor or the same writers she has for the love of god. Don’t waste your time with ModSun. I don’t see Avril working with someone like Aaron Dessner, honestly.

It's got some real deep twist to it, though, because Mod Sun is an addicted in recovery

EW put Flames on their best of the week top 5 "Different quarantine bubbles have different ways of connecting. Some hold Zoom happy hours, others play Among Us. Meanwhile for Mod Sun and collaborators like Machine Gun Kelly, their shared activity seems to be ushering in a pop-punk revival. "Flames," in all its new-found glory, exemplifies this creative approach, using just a wisp of fresh rap production while still sitting right at home among the 2007 emo catalog millennials would blast alone in their bedroom if they needed an emotional release. Having the queen of the genre, Avril Lavigne back (and sounding like herself again) is certainly a big help as well in capturing the right vibe. —M.J." ew.com/music/music-reviews/friday-five-duran-duran-honor-bowie-zayn-vibez/

Allison Hagendorf, spotify rock curator, briefly talked about her on the 'rock this' podcast and played the song saying it will be stuck in your head.

Does anybody else think her headband/net leggings/converse outfit on ModSun’s IG video is for the music video? Maybe that’s part of the BTS?

Such an addictive track though short. It kinda leaves u wanting more. The greatness of the song is the fire production and modsun's vocals... I mean that guy can belt! Avril's voice is ok and doesn't have much input but I get it since it's modsun's track and not hers. I wanna thank Avril though....if it wasn't for her I wouldnt have known Modsun and we wouldn't get this track! Cuz girl has ear for amazing hooks and catchy tunes... I remember Rodney said she is a genius when it comes to writing great hooks and knows which songs are gonna be catchy for the public...thank God she loved the track and Modsun asked her to add her vocals and it's actually getting rave reviews for its infectious hooks!!

The song is definitely a grower I must say. I really don’t mind listening to it and I‘m actually surprised that the line „I still burn for you“ is stuck in my head for so long now. xD

It generated 14 201 plays on Spotify worldwide so far. But I think the 24 hrs update will come in a couple of hours as the track didn’t debut worldwide at the same time. On YouTube it got around 200K plays in its first 24hrs.
