Only 14 k? Isn't it a bit little?
I mean I can understand YouTube is free and only the Premium Accounts on Spotify count, but isn't 14k a bit too little comparing to the 200k on YouTube?
(I'm not an expert just asking)

It's got some real deep twist to it, though, because Mod Sun is an addicted in recovery Man...why do so many musicians do hard drugs and drink so much?

Does anybody else think her headband/net leggings/converse outfit on ModSunβs IG video is for the music video? Maybe thatβs part of the BTS? I hope so! I Thought this was for the MV. Mod is holding a pink guitar and it has an Avril logo (if I'm not mistaken I've seen this logo before in some of her merch or tour, mabye on HK live performances). I'm not expecting much for the music video, but it can really make a difference to the song, which is actually getting better and better with each listen.

Dude has a funny image but the song is damn good. I wish Avril would fill an entire album with songs of similar energy.

Have you seen the MV for "Karma" and "Bones"? They're great! I think we can expect a very visually pleasing MV for "Flames", something we didn't get for any of her singles since GF.

Have you guys noticed that the song's lyrics are actually really smart? They're comparing the person they are or were attached to to some kind of drug, addiction... The person was abusive and manipulative but if they saw them again they would "relapse" because it's just too vicious and tempative. And the "burn for you" line is a metaphor to smoking or lighting up some other kind of drug. It's repetitive but they really do send some message with this, whew Eh I feel like thatβs a concept that has been done in quite a lot of songs, it isnβt really that unique of a concept. This. It's been done for decades. Especially in rock music. Am I the only one, for whom it still didn't grow? >.< Hi there!
I must say I feel like my head is on backwards seeing all these super positive reactions. Not that I mind that many of you love it, that's great! I just don't see how it's anything but a decent track that could have been great with more work put into it? I've listened to it a few times now and it doesn't really grow that much for me. I don't get more or less excited, it's just "ok". I doubt I'd want to listen to it much more like I have with some of Avril's own discography or even Mod Sun's other singles. I keep hearing the repetition, Avril and Mod Sun's vocals not really meshing very well, how quickly it's over as soon as the energy builds and some of the in my opinion oddly rushed feeling sections. I'm starting to think many of you are (understandably) happy you finally got something decent after a long wait while of course for me the same anticipation hasn't been there so I just can't really see it with the same eyes. Or maybe it's some form of Stockholm syndrome for you repeat listeners. Again: great that you're all happy! It's just that seeing such overwhelming hype and positivity makes me feel a bit crazy for thinking it's just decent?

But I also feel likes, yes it's good, but nothing "special". I will see how it evolves over time. And yes, would I listen to it if Avril would not be in there? hm maybe wouldn't have "keept listening" until it got "better". I don't know.

As a side point, I find it a bit funny how not so long ago this whole board was (justifiably) upset over Avril yet again disappointing fans with that virtual 'concert' of hers, to the point where some of y'all were entirely "giving up" on her, and now she seemingly did the coolest thing since HAW came out! I mean, she could still disappoint with the next album, but for now its not looking so bad :-)
(The whole situation also reminded me of this short scene from Dumb & Dumber, ha ha)

It's just that seeing such overwhelming hype and positivity makes me feel a bit crazy for thinking it's just decent? I would say that the song is a grower in the sense that it's really catchy and gets stuck in your head. Nothing about the writing itself or issues with the vocal mixing will get any better, no matter how many times you listen. But I was listening to it on repeat for a little bit while working on my computer yesterday and it's nice to have on in the background. I think what makes it a pretty good song is the energy and production value, more than the writing or anything else about it. It also has some dynamic in the structure where it goes through so many different changes instead of just sounding the same all the way through and I think that makes it a little more interesting than just another typical pop/rock song. Some songs just won't resonate with people no matter how many times they listen to it and that's ok too.

So her monthly listeners on Spotify increased +200k and now passed 12 million listeners. So Flames probably did +200k stream on its first day which is on par with the songs YouTube views.

Funny how everyone says this song is a grower. I was instantly hooked ever since I heard the first 'drop' at 0:22. Gotta say I'm not a big fan of Avril's intro part . Like others said, I do believe the song could've been a lot better with a bit more energy put into it. It's really short and really repetitive so I'll probably be bored of it really quickly.. I'm digging these new modern poprock vibes though. Hopefully Avril will do something with it as well .
