Also would like to add that Avril's acting makes me wonder...
On her 1st 3 albums you can see she puts effort into it specifically on NH which is the most acted MV on her career and even today I can say she should be proud of it... she delivered on that one imo.
So... she's capable! But needs training and also someone that can go to her and say: hey Av... loose the pretty face and give some expression to your acting! You're not Kristen Stuart!

I think that perhaps when she is on set filming she is just lip sun hung, I reckon that if she sand live on set it would make it more realistic.

How can you all forget RnR video, the best purposeful bad acting ever lol.
I think she does great when she has to be dramatic, either on the fun/bratty side or in the angsty/ sad side. She struggles more when she has to be softer.

Wow. That was a bit more than I was expecting. It makes me retro-actively like the song quite a lot more!  Though it does feel like a bit much was crammed in there (for such a short video there's a lot of different scenes). I agree Avril doesn't fully bring the same energy as Mod Sun but I think she looks great and doesn't stand out as odd. In fact at times I sort of recognize the "different Avrils" from some of her eras in her looks/expressions? Hard to explain. Mod Sun definitely got all the cool visuals so it's clearly a "Mod Sun featuring Avril Lavigne" situation which is what I was expecting. My biggest pet peeve tho is seeing her pretending to play the instruments. This is accurate.  Though sadly also quite common among artists. I've been curious lately how well Avril can really play the various instruments I've seen her with. I haven't watched much live footage yet so I just don't know. And about the same guitar thing I saw a few posts back: they're both Squier Telecasters (so the same model and brand) with the same logo on the fretboard but are they really the exact same guitar she used in that video? Looks like a different finish to me (with the new one having some kind of sparkles). Did she have it re-finished at some point? Just interested since I'm a guitar person.
The "Internet killed the Rockstar" thing made me cringe a little to be honest. I also really don't think Mod Sun's big hyped video release would be the time for Avril to address something like that. Would she really hijack it for the Melissa theory? If it is indeed the title of his album I find it totally understandable as he's dropping the title with his last single release. It also says it on his shirt. Though weird he'd first "reveal" it with another much bigger artist sitting right next to it attracting your attention.
I do have to say I actually don't fully share the sentiment that Avril should work with these exact same people for everything having to do with AL7. It's good for now and, from what I keep understanding, a lot more than fans have recently gotten with regards to Avril. But I'm afraid a situation where she's constantly surrounded by the same people with the same vibe would just create a different kind of the "yes men" that are now disliked. I think it would just end up with a lot of average and samey material. A full of album of decent songs without anything great is less exciting to me than an album with highs and lows. Also I don't think it should be forgotten that Flames is Mod Sun's release and that if Avril was overseeing and in charge of the same people while working on her stuff it could still end up quite different. For good or bad.
Sorry for the long post. I'm just glad to have this video after what has been quite a dark week for me. I'll enjoy it more over the weekend!

There's something missing on the video
I like it. But you can really tell it was rushed. I wanted more energy from Avril too...but oh well...hope the lead really serves what this video didn't. Still love the song and her aesthetics tho

I actually wouldn’t mind her addressing the Melissa thing if it was done right. Like if they’d had it on the coffin in the IFILYTD video or a gravestone in the background or something. A subtle reference. I don’t want what I’d expect Avril to do, which is her fighting a version of herself both armed with an inflatable electric guitar or something similarly cringey. I assume she’ll be sending some royalties my way? |

I really like it. She looks so good, I hope she keeps this style for her album. She still looks like Avril but mature Avril which is perfect. Love the scenes with her on the piano. Love the graveyard scene, whether it’s his album name or whatever it’s still 100% being played on for the Melissa thing with her sat next to it, which is a good move imo. No complaints from me. Even though it’s not her song I’m feeling quietly confident for her this year - she seems to have worked with ModSun/John F etc for more than just this and I don’t think they’ve put a foot wrong so far.

As I saw the cemetery, it made me think of the IFILWTD video. But then I read the gravestone and thought Mellisa or maybe that will be Mod Sun's album title. I think it's both. On his instagram post, Mod Sun says, "I also announced my album title in a detail, did you catch it?". I find "rockstar" cringey when refered to Avril or more like BY HER 🤦 but in this case I think it was okay. Whatever the reasoning for that tombstone, I think having Avril in the same shot stole the spotlight 😛
I'm obviously only watching this for Avril so I think they did a good job of featuring her. He had one job though and that was putting Avril in flames. I know it's his video but you couldn't spare a little fire for her? Finally, I'm glad Avril did not follow that acting career she once talked about because she sucks at acting. No offense to her since I was the same in some school assignments that I was asked to act out.
It would be interesting if Avril works with the same people working for Mod and MGK. Though I agree with HeiBai, in that working with the same people could lead to same-y type of content. But I also think they are professionals that can adapt to any artist. So we'll see.
I'm excited to see where she's going next. She has yet to promote the video on her social media. That's odd since she's been all over this project. Anyways, hope we hear what's next from her camp very sxxn.
Oh and maybe we could get a footnotes video later on. Though I don't think Mod Sun has been a part of that trend.
