Oh, the fact that she didn't even sing the song a second time gives me a feeling that we're going to be returning to this very moment for a long time! I think we're in for a new era of Why's and How's, ups and downs, enthusiasms and utter disregards, lmao. I kind of 'dig' the cover, though, since its simple and straight-forward, her face looks weird for some reason, but it might be just post-production or/and lightning and makeup doing that. |

Well based on what I'm reading here so far I think this version of Flames will be more like a dumpster fire. 
Like she didn't even re-record for her partner's big hit? What? If she really didn't re-record her parts then what were the pictures in the AL7 thread for? She's even singing in them. Confusing messaging from her then. And I will still completely overlook it this time since it's a song they did together about a toxic relationship so of course that's what the cover is trying to portray, and it's therefore logical that the cover is like it is, but I hope this is also the last time we get their relationship as "part of the package". Music please, not fame PR.
I'll give it a shot once it's out here but since I wasn't the biggest fan of Flames anyway I'm not disappointed it seems lazy or anything. Though I am a bit surprised about Mod Sun talking something like this up so much since he seemed so driven yet apparently the end product is anything but. Weird. I'll reserve full judgement until I've heard it of course. But if nothing good comes of it then at least in a few days we can hopefully move on to AL7.  |

I mean.. we had reason to believe she had re-recorded [br Who knows, maybe she really did redo her vocals but they just don’t sound that different because there’s not much she can change about how she’s singing it (ex: you can hear a clear difference in the way she sings Losing Grip vs the acoustic version). I’m not convinced that even Mod re-recorded his vocals either, I think they just stripped out some of the filtering and vocal layering to get the main vocal take from him. |

I don't see this acoustic version giving the song any new interest. I think a piano version might have been more interesting, they could have changed the tempo of the song and transform it a little. If there's not even a video to go along with the acoustic then who's going to listen to it more than once or twice? Mod Sun has said a few times he wants to do everything he can to make the song a hit and get it to #1, but this feels so safe and predictable... I agree. To really make a song a hit, they should have released this acoustic version weeks ago, when the song was still fresh. Put out a lyric video. Maybe a couple other remixes plus lyric videos to round it out. I remember Taylor was able to make Willow a #1 song during Christmas season by making multiple remixes plus a lyric video for each one, an EP containing all the different versions, plus Yule log videos with each version to coordinate with the Christmas season. Some country artists I follow have done things like release a Spanish version of their single with a Latino artist or release a duet version with a well-known act (ex: Gabby Barrett’s “I Hope” with Charlie Puth, Kelsea Ballerini’s “Hole in the Bottle” with Shania Twain). You have to really think outside the box these days and get creative and find new ways to make an old song sound fresh and enticing for more people to listen to outside those who have already heard it. A lame acoustic version where the tempo isn’t even different and the vocals weren’t redone isn’t going to push the song forward. Even Avril’s core fan base doesn’t care about it, why would anyone else? |

I kind of expected Avril’s vocals might not be redone as they were already pretty soft to begin with. It’s not necessarily that she was too lazy to redo it, but maybe they just didn’t see the point in wasting time recording something that didn’t really need to be redone and instead use the time to record new music. Who knows. The single cover is kind of lame and cheesy. The hand holding thing can work for the type of song that it is, like it’s about 2 people in a toxic relationship, hence the hand holding but serious expression. But I hope they don’t continue to milk this relationship for PR. It’s just cringey and will look bad if (*cough* when) they break up. Much like how awkward LMG looks now that she’s divorced from Chad. I hope they have something else coming with this, like a video or live performance, because if it seriously took them weeks/months to work on this/“get it just right” that is sad. All they did is copy the same vocals over new instruments. The worst part about this is just how he has been hyping his deluxe version for 2 months now and we get this when it is well know the success (if we can call it that) comes from Avril's name... |

I hope we get a live performance soon. I can't believe we haven't yet. |

I don't have much to say about the snippet. I remember judging the original song based on a snippet too and I ended up liking it towards the middle. But I agree MOVE ON already!
Now the cover photo. Wtf is that lmao. As I was scrolling to get the full pic, I thought Mod didn't have any shoulders 😂. And Avril's face is too much. Plus this looks like a paparazzi shot. Just lame.

I actually don't think she looks that different on the cover. Reminds me a lot of her photos from TBDT era...The makeup (not even talking about the eyes) is what looks a bit too much for me.
