Strings!! They added freaking strings! It's beautiful! ππ She definitely re-recorded the vocals, not sure if all of them 'cause at the end in the climax it's harder to tell, but the beginning is definitely re-recorded, which is good.
The arrangement is beautiful, i would've prefered for a piano instead of guitar considering the original already has a guitar BUT well...the onyl thing i don't like is how he says "ah! SHES!" like...LOL ππ
the energy is still there <3

So. The song is just out in Italy.
They both re-recorded their parts. The song is well done, aside Avrilβs vocals at the beginning, there is some kind of distortion I donβt like (I still burn fΕr you) Anyways it seems like a different song.. i also hear different instruments like a xylophone (?) I think itβs very well done, the original is a great song, this version is great quality in production but the result is too slow / mellow; thereβs not the energy the original provides.
But probably it was the intent of the acoustic: making it some kind of ballad !

Wow, I actually really like the acoustic version on initial impression. Its obviously gentler, and it kind of switches whole mood of the song, but in an interesting way! I also take any previous criticism back!
And regarding that Evan's song, I really wonder who it was written about, or whether it was about a deceased person. Personally I find his vocals a bit too.. strangely cheesy there, but I do appreciate the sentiment of the piece very much..

This surely is a twist of events haha. I haven't heard the song yet, but from the snippet available on apple music today it sounded like it was going to be the sort of basic/lazy acoustic version Avril has gotten us used to over the years. I'm glad to hear that's not the case and I'm excited to learn they even added strings and other instruments! Funny how the mood can change so drastically within the span of just one day over here  |

I haven't heard it yet but good to know they did actually re-record the vocals and change up the instruments!
One reason you can't just go off of a 20 second LQ clip.

The rest f the lyrics yes, it could be, but that part is kinda like..nope xd haha and tamy, don't worry, we obviously have different tastes and that's ok. It sounds really dated to me and her sound good in the song, well that's what supposed to be, xD i really was looking for the moment when they would make a song together and that they decided to make best years the one...it really made me happy and then..."oH LeT's mAkE tHis MoDerN" i do think that maybe the orginal instrumental is a bit simplistic (which works for me) but they could've added real drums, strings, piano, idk, the traditional way you make a song lol, best years is not the right song to tunr into hip-hop ππ but anyasy, this went too offtopic, i'm really sorry xD only 20 minutes till i'm abl to hear the acoustic, it seems she re-recorded her voclas after all (??) that's good. D: I always interpreted those lyrics you mentioned differently. Hard to explain over text, but I don't think it really matters anyway. The beauty of music is that it can (usually) be interpreted in many different ways. And it's pretty much all subjective anyway. So I think we just gotta agree to disagree on how we interpret the song and which version we like better. 
To get back on topic: "Flames (Acoustic)" is finally out in Germany, too, and I just got proven (again) that you can't and shouldn't judge a song by a snippet. I was wrong. Avril did re-record her vocals. Sorry, Avril! I'm still not a fan of this version, though. I can still hear this low-pass or low-cut filter (don't remember which one) someone here mentioned to have been used on Avril's voice in the album version. I don't like that filter, it makes her voice sound weird and even more nasal than usual. Mod could've used a bit less of his distorted singing style, imo. I usually love this kind of singing style, but I don't think it always works in this acoustic version; it's too "heavy" / over the top. What mostly bugs me, however, is the mixing. As I mentioned before, after hearing the snippet, the instruments and voices seem to be battling each other. Everything's so loud, too far in the foreground, if that makes sense.
It is nice to hear this song in a different arrangement. I like the fact they added strings, and that both Avril and Mod re-recorded their vocals, instead of just using those from the album version. But other than that, I honestly don't care much for this acoustic version. I'm generally not "burning" for the song anymore. I still like it a lot, but it's just not something I feel like listening to atm. They should've released this acoustic version way back in January or February, I think a lot of us might've enjoyed it more then. But oh well... Next stop: hopefully AL7's first single some time before July.

Ok. I just heard it. I really like the way he sings the verse but some of Avril's lines just feel like they were reused from the original. Also during the climax of the song it seems like the instrumental is drowning them out...

So, I've managed to listen to it and it is decent, but not enough to get me excited about the song again. I'm convinced the only new vocals from Avril are on the second sentence in the intro when she sings "I still burn for you, my whole life I've been on fire". Everything else sounds like the original vocals to me. I think they could have done a better job at making the song more interesting if they really want to continue pushing it over 3 months after its release. I will probably listen to this version a handful of times -- if that, it's just not compelling enough for me to want to get back to it, specially given the fact I wasn't even that into the original Flames anymore.
Time for AL7 now.

Havenβt heard yet, but everyone on that last page can hopefully realize things are finally different and effort is there. As a fan base, itβs time to stop assuming the worst. Can we all agree to try and be positive and enjoy this time? I legit thought she was done making music for at least 5 years after HAW.
Sheβs finally surrounded by talented, motivated, and hardworking people again, and she hasnβt appeared this hungry since 2007.
