This song actually had some kind of longevity on Alternative radio. I thought it would be dead on arrival but it's been getting constant airplay since its release. Honestly I'm happy for him and for Avril too if this can help seeing "her name" on alternative charts and radio plays. Sadly Avril's voice was not heard in radios since Here's to never growing up, so it's not a bad thing. I think we're all so eager to hear AL7 that we're tired of Flames but the song is not bad at all. I was sitting at the school I work at and flames came on the top 40 station and I was shocked.

It's also probably the first true pop-rock song she's made since 2007. Flames could've easily fit UMS or even LG (with the instrumentation of that time obviously). I thought Smile is also pop rock

I thought Smile is also pop rock HAW is too. HTNGU is too. But I think they mean that Flames really does sound like alternative rock...? Mainly, the instrumental with loud real drums. Because her voice on the song is so pop. It's why I don't like it so much. Actually, this song kind of reminds me of Smile.

I thought Smile is also pop rock Determining genres is quite subjective and also a matter of perspective and context, but I'd use the term that was used to describe WTH for Smile - "bubblegum pop punk". I really don't feel much traces of 'rock' in the mentioned two (also ILY and WYWH). Not Enough is much stronger on the 'pop rock' sound as far as GL goes, and even the much softer Everybody Hurts, Darlin, and 4real contain some pop rock vibes that are firmer than anything we hear in Smile.

I actually searched for Avril's musical genre in an "official" site but i'll post it on the random thread. But yes, HAW is pretty much pop-rock to me as well, even tho i have no idea about music lol, but yeah i was referring to the feeling, the aesthetics, the isntrumentation. Even haw is pop-rock maybe it's just the guitars that make it seem like that idk... and Smile to me...it's not a pop-rock song, the verses are just shouty and rap influenced if you will, but the chorus is really bubble gum, something that katy perry, kesha or even taylor could've released. I do love the melodie tho.

What is that makes the song climb ? streams, YouTube videos or is it something only radio-related ?

We will see if it’s rising because now it’s not a weekly update, it’s a daily one. It’s 17 with like 100 plays but it’s the Monday update hitsdailydouble.com/mediabase_chart_details&fmt=R3. What is that makes the song climb ? streams, YouTube videos or is it something only radio-related ? All - radio plays (it’s between 22-20 for the last month or so), streams, downloads
