I was decently impressed by her guitar playing in the video. Usually, when she mimes playing an instrument for a video it looks nothing like the actual song she's supposed to be playing lol but this looks good. I wonder if her actual guitar playing skills have improved since she met Mod and Feldmann.

Maybe she just feels really self conscious these days when lip synching? She’s made it clear in the past she doesn’t like to lip synch when performing live etc. With a voice like hers who would want to lip sync?
I’m not making excuses for her but something has changed and we don’t know how she’s feeling etc.

Hope she’s planning on putting more energy into her own music. Yawn. Mod was good though. Nice enough video but I can’t say I’ll ever watch it again.

She's probably just trying to still look good while lip-syncing. She may have seen an old video of herself and thought it looked bad. She's been doing it though since UMS. I can think of a few scenes from MHE and HW that were low-energy lip-synced, but I guess people don't care about her bad lip-syncing from her golden eras.

Her guitar playing was ok here but I think at times it didn’t look totally in sync. It was pretty obvious IMO she wasn’t really playing and it’s certainly not her playing on the track itself lol
As for the lip synching, it is honestly not that hard to do. I have made my own music videos in the past and every time I actually sing along with the track to make it look as real as possible. Maybe Avril doesn’t want to overuse her voice, so simply mouthing with no sound is easier for her, but the performance suffers that way. You can tell Mod was really singing. It’s just... it’s not that hard. I don’t blame Avril entirely though, she doesn’t know what she looks like, but the director or somebody should tell her to move her mouth more, especially when she’s supposed to be hitting a high note and her mouth is barely open, it just looks ultra fake.

Well this came out of nowhere which is surprising but I just saw it and... that's it? Hm.  It's ok but fairly low effort and I'm really surprised Mod kept saying he wanted to do something big with it and such and then this is the level he meant seeing his previous work. It's just a video miming the recorded track? Why not do an actual performance on video? It's a pre-recorded video anyway so they could have done some editing too and produced something new and "live". Also her lip-syncing is distractingly off and paperbackwriter I don't think that her guitar playing has really improved. For how long she's been playing still having to look down at her guitar constantly for some basic bar chords while literally miming for a video is a bit shocking in my opinion. It looks so much more acted because of that to me. Finally the people in the background wearing the IKTR shirts feels hilariously promo performance to me though I guess that's the point. All-in-all it's just kind of boring so I don't think I'll watch it again.
Oh well, let's hope this is it with trying to extend Flames' legs and we get to see what that mysterious bts was for next. Or an a capella version? EDM remix? Only time will tell.  |

Nice video that should’ve been put out back in January, not nearly May. I appreciate she played guitar throughout the entire song but that’s all. Nice video quality, I’ll give them that. Meh overall, but it’s not like I was expecting anything better tbh.
I’m so done with her promoting their song and his career. I really hope she isn’t waiting for him to release the deluxe album to even say something new because that would just be plain pathetic at this point.

It looks like it's one chord she's playing throughout the whole song. I looked up the Flames guitar chords but it's a really difficult advanced song to play but in that video it looks like one chord all the way through lol

I agree, he’s a small artist but the production quality of his previous videos like Karma and Bones were both quite good. This isn’t what I would consider to be a big production. Maybe they had bigger plans that just didn’t work out and this was their backup plan. |

My overall thought of this video was damn look at those emos behind them. The real stars of this video 😂.
I didn't notice the guitar playing or the lip syncing much. Mostly focused on her constant smile and the fact that she sings the same short verse. I'm glad they gave her a guitar so it looks like she's more involved. Because this video is 'meh'. I don't necessarily blame her tho because this song doesn't give her much to work with anyways since it's the same line over and over. Mod Sun has the interesting part because it's his song. But other than that I don't think there's much to complain about if you're not a bandaids person. Anyone else who comes across this is gonna be like oh that's nice. Or they're perfect for each other like the people in the comment section.

At this point all I really hope for is that Avril's new music is banging because if this is the level of energy that she's going to bring to the table and the music happens to be mediocre there won't be much for me to enjoy.

Oh wow, between some time early noon and now (late evening), I had completely forgotten this video was to be released today, lol.
I really liked it. It's a super sweet video. I love the simplicity, just Avril, Mod, and those three women performing in a room. Such chill vibes. I'd initially thought that a music video for a meh acoustic version was so unnecessary, but this video made the song so much better for me. It also made me hear that xylophone for the first time. Such a cute little thing to add to the instrumental.
EDIT: After reading other comments here, I'm surprised at all the rather negative critique. Not that anyone's "wrong", everybody is entitled to their opinion. I just hadn't expected to be in the minority here. I also didn't really catch anything especially bad about Avril's lip synching, guitar playing, or passion. I mean, she hasn't been lip synching or showing passion well for ages, so I hadn't expected it to be any better with this video anyway. But imo it's not worse than in any of her other recent music videos.
